Re-Marriage Ad Creating Sensation in India

http://youtu.be/adDkbucQUfg

PADA: This ad depicts a woman getting re-married which is considered as taboo in Indian culture (or actually in any religious culture in the "good old days"). So its creating quite a controversy over there because it seems to be accepting -- or even promoting -- the re-marriage idea.

If we look at the comments, we will find yet another controversy, apparently some India TV ads use people who are "bleaching their skin" to artificially appear as "almost like white race" people. All this seems to fit in with Srila Prabhupada's assessment -- that the modern India culture is moving away from its Vedic roots and ideals, and is instead striving to become more Westernized.

Re-marriages, whiter skin, these are Westernized influences. An Indian friend of ours joked, "And in the West, the white people are getting tanned at tanning salons to look -- much darker." In any case these are signs of cultural deterioration and bodily identification with skin color and so forth, which Srila Prabhupada says -- are signs of material consciousness and / or material entanglement. ys pd
