Letter from Mahanidhi Swami August 13, 2013

[PADA: This was forwarded to us, we have no way to verify its authenticity. Q: Where is Mahanidhi swami currently residing and is he seeing any visitors now? Does he know that the GBC wrote a letter and reported his connection to a woman, not merely "some disciples"? ys pd]

MAHANIDHI SWAMI’S LETTER AUGUST 13, 2013

Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Jayate! Dear devotees and friends,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. For your consideration I offer the following explanation of the recent events of my life. The Veda Purana says in Kali-yuga, disciples will become so antagonistic, envious and ungrateful that they will even kill their own Guru.

Recently, a few disciples have accused me of improper behavior with a female devotee, and that was publicized worldwide. Contrary to the thousands of false statements, distorted facts, wild exaggerated stories and complete lies, I have never had any illicit relations with a woman or man during my entire devotional life.

Of course, this is only possible by the mercy of my Gurudeva Srila Prabhupada, Lord Gauranga and Sri Krishna’s Holy Names. And in no way have I left my eternal divine holy master Srila Prabhupada, and ran away with a woman or some other Guru.
Why did I resign from ISKCON, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness? By the 15th of June 2013, I observed that some antagonistic disciples had formed a conspiracy, and then forcefully spread slanderous allegations and completely false stories about my character to the disciples, and then throughout India and overseas. Not only was my name, reputation, disciple sanga, and preaching platform destroyed, but so to was all the wonderful preaching being done by the disciples.

Seeing that permanent damage was already done, and feeling that the situation was hopeless, I accepted it as Bhagavan Sri Krishna’s sweet will. Now it seems that time had come to change the focus, and concentrate on my personal internal spiritual development. At this time, I suddenly remembered some important shiksha Srila Prabhupada gave in 1972.

In that year, my Gurudeva Srila Prabhupada said, “Preach while you are young. When you are old, retire to Vrndavana and chant Hare Krishna. If you have preached sufficiently, you can retire to chant Hare Krishna.” (Prabhupada Lilamrta Vol 5 pg. 94: 1983 ed.) I am sixty-three years old now, and have spent the last forty years of my life in ISKCON actively preaching and publishing books to spread the science of Krishna
Consciousness around the world. Feeling that I have preached sufficiently, I thought now I can follow my Gurudeva’s siksha to retire in Vrndavana and chant Hare Krishna.

Thus, I resigned from the glorious preaching campaign of ISKCON to spend the balance of my life at Radha Kunda in Sridhama Vrndavana, chanting the sweet Holy Names of Sri Krishna, with the hope of someday attaining the most cherished goal of Radha-Krishna prema, pure love of God.
In closing, I want to take this opportunity to humbly beg forgiveness from any Vaisnava whom I may have offended during this most difficult time of my life. Also, I want to it to be clearly understood that I will always love and serve my eternal Gurudeva Srila Prabhupada, and maintain the deepest respect and gratitude toward ISKCON and all the devotees.

And if Bhagavan Sri Krishna blesses me, then in the future I may receive the good fortune to render a little service for the pleasure of the Vaisnavas.
Jai Jai Sri Radhe!
Vaisnavadasanudasa,

  1. Sounds pretty much like rascaldom. Nobody spread rumors. It is the GBC statement everybody is refering to. If Mahaniddhi figures he is a guru in good standing why he is unable to inform GBC about their false broadcast?
Why he did not immediately write letter above? Why this stonewalling tactics? If he writes on facebook, listen folks, this is all made up lie then this would have never gotten out of hand like it is now.

  3. First time I ever heard of a guru "retiring" from being a guru because his own disciples were envious? What will they think of next? His name and fame were ruined, and that was Krishna's arrangement for him to stop being a guru as well? Never heard of that one either. He mentions Srila Prabhupada's "siksha". What kind of siksha is there stating a guru has to worry about his own name and fame?

  4. Having seen "gurus" fall before, it seems to be pretty obvious these excuses were fashioned beforehand along the way by this one.

First he gets caught falling down with a woman, and it is revealed he took sanga from some other guru. So what to do? In order to get out of the immediate heat of the situation he, in his own words, resigned from ISKCON. That was stage one. Tyaga, renunciation. But that won't last long when the name and fame runs out and the guru wants more. So now, stage two. Stage two was planned in the back of his mind all along, as with other gurus who come and go, they all come up with their own plans.

Stage two is damage control. He admits he resigned from ISKCON but fortunately he was intelligent enough to have the foresight to say he was resigning from the "preaching mission" of Srila Prabhupada. That trickily appeased those who wanted him to admit he was fallen at the time, while simultaneously left him a way back in, now he can say he is only retiring from the preaching mission aspect of ISKCON, and it was Srila Prabhupada's order to his disciples in 1972. Don't think he didn't think of this until after he wrote his original resignation letter, he must have been thinking about this for years.

He wants to avoid a fight with the entire GBC who have condenmend him already. So let's blame it on the disciples this time instead. That way the GBC can turn the usual blind eye so long as he promises to come back. But why let such a prentender come back and pretend? The GBC should order him to get married just like Srila Prabhupada would have in such a situation.

The Veda Purana might say disciples in Kali will kill their own guru, but that does not mean if the "guru" is bogus he should be followed. He was caught, he confessed, the GBC agreed and NOW he is showing remorse? This just seems like another guru's situation of too little too late.

  5. This is exactly as I had suspected. Mahanidhi Swami came out and corroborated that this is a conspiracy. The GBC are complicit in the conspiracy as they were the executors of the public condemnation and practically the excommunication of a saintly devotee. I hope Tamahora Prabhu stays awake at night drafting a public letter of apology.

  6. Dear Mahanidhi Swami.

Please accept my humble obeisances all glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I enjoyed your letter and the denial of any wrong doing. I must accept that of course as I do not know otherwise. How nice that you can take this quote from Srila Prabhupada as your personal instruction from him."In that year, my Gurudeva Srila Prabhupada said, “Preach while you are young. When you are old, retire to Vrndavana and chant Hare Krishna. If you have preached sufficiently, you can retire to chant Hare Krishna.” (Prabhupada Lilamrta Vol 5 pg. 94: 1983 ed.)" There are so many of us aged devotees who would love to do the same but we find it necessary to keep up with our current devotional responsibilities based on Srila Prabhupadas instructions. I am also 63 years old and suffer not unlike the rest of Srila Prabhupadas disciples with financial problems, very long work hours, ailing health, defamation from ISKCON Toronto, banned from their temple for speaking the truth, you know the regular crapola that has engulfed probably more then 5,000 of Srila Prabhupadas disciples who were for the most part forced out of ISKCON to fend for themselves for the past40 years. As long as you have been serving by the way. Applying for and being accepted as a GBC sannyasi in ISKCON has always been a good post with a great retirement plan. Retire? Srila Prabhupada started this movement at the age of 70 and you are going to retire? When I retire from my job I will be in a position to "start" my assisting Srila Prabhupada with original book distribution, Hari Nam and Gita classes. They are especially needed here in Toronto what to speak of the rest of North America.I guess you want to allow the most urgently needed devotional service around the world to be performed by the younger less experienced and unemployed ISKCON youth or haven't you heard? If you find it necessary to "retire" to Vrndavna and a life on easy lane I will say that you probably deserve it like you seem to be communicating. Then I must also assume that you have no more to offer the world that Srila Prabhupada desperately still wants to save. Never mind us we'll all do fine knowing that you are safe in Vrndavna with free medical care anywhere in the world, free travel expenses, clothing, dental and optical needs all covered, free lodging, free prasadam and perhaps a personal cook, any materials necessary to satisfy your creative needs for preaching,ie Internet and other facilities and phones as well as a secretary perhaps? A bank account will come in handy of course with debit card and credit cards. Srila Prabhupada never had anything relative to all that when he boarded the Jaladuta.
“Preach while you are young. When you are old, retire to Vrndavana and chant Hare Krishna. If you have preached sufficiently, you can retire to chant Hare Krishna.” (Prabhupada Lilamrta Vol 5 pg. 94: 1983 ed. I guess deciding if one is old and that one has preached sufficiently is to be decided by the individual. So we can all come to your conclusion and need not inquire from you submissively anymore because you are old, you have preached sufficiently and now you have stopped and are no longer available for advice and consultation by anyone on the planet. Your 40 years of experience and expertise in serving Srila Prabhupada is no longer available to the world. Be sure to enjoy yourself it's later than you think.

    Ys Hasti Gopala Dasa
