Garuda Panchami – August 11, 2013
Garuda Panchami Puja is a festival dedicated to Garuda, Lord Vishnu’s vehicle. Garuda Panchami puja is observed on panchami in the month of Shravana.
Garuda (half-bird, half-man) is often found kneeling with hands folded before Vishnu’s shrines. Except for large wings which fold out from his shoulders, he is almost always represented as a human. In some temples, Garuda is treated as dwarapalaka of Srihari.
