The same thing is now going on in several of the Maths. The appointed or voted in guru has fallen (or was fallen to begin with). Srila Prabhupada's idea is that the real acarya is self manifest and is not appointed or elected. Yet appoin...ting a successor guru is the traditional system in India, but so is the hereditary guru system and Srila Prabhupada was obviously not in favor of that. Srila Sridhar Maharaja said, "Myself and Swami Maharaja (our Prabhupada) are not one on everything." Previously we thought that they were one on how guru will manifest in this world. But events have proved that they were not and this is the essential point in the Letter to Rupanuga. Time and time again we have seen that gurus who are suspended and supposedly in the process of being rectified are not changing their stripes. Even if one does not accept Rtivk one can understand the pitfalls and error of electing gurus by a committee or perhaps even appointing them.See More
