Understanding Srila Prabhupada's Poison Complaint (Mahesh Raja prabhu)

[PADA: One thing that comes up a lot with the poison issue is, why didn't Srila Prabhupada protest more? Yet there are many examples of previous devotees who were put into great difficulty and they did not protest. Just because he made an apparently light protest does not prove there was no a poison program and cabal. Anyway, Mahesh Raja has compiled some nice quotes on this topic and its important we all understand that a pure person can be attacked and he will not protest much, or maybe not at all. That is one of the qualifications of a sadhu.]

“In this condition even I cannot move my body on the bed. Only chance you should give me — let me die little peacefully, without any anxiety. I have given in writing everything, whatever you wanted — my will, my executive power, everything. Disaster will happen if you cannot manage it.” [Room Conversation, Oct 2, 1977, Vrindavana]

[PADA: This was one of the first issues that came up in 1978, "The Last Will" was being hidden and not being shown to the devotees. We only got a copy when someone stole it from Hansadutta's personal safe in 1985. It was hidden along with many other documents.]

“I am prepared to die. That much strength I have got. Generally, people do not like to die. But I will be very glad to die if Krishna wants. That is… And I shall stay with you. I have no objection either way. But I am not afraid of death. That much strength I have got. Why shall I be afraid?” [Srila Prabhupada Vigil, May 28, 1977, Vrindavana]

“Suppose if I am here and somebody kills me, and if you do not protest, is it a very good business? People will be surprised that “So many disciples are there, and this man is being killed, and nobody do anything?” (75 41027SB.MAY Lectures)

[PADA: Right, and 11 fools sat in his seat after 1977 and hardly anyone protested. Same idea.]

The Perfect Disappearance Pastimes of Srila Prabhupada… finally explained.

http://killgurubecomeguru.org/2017/06/the-perfect-disappearance-pastimes-of-srila-prabhupada/

Krsna’s protection of His pure devotee.

Prabhus few devotees have asked me sometimes how is that a PURE devotee of Krsna Srila Prabhupada was not protected by Krsna from poisoning. Few reasons come to mind that may help others understand the concept in Krsna Consciousness philosophy.

1) The poison is effective only when Krsna desires so it not that the effect of poison that killed Srila Prabhupada BUT he left out of disgust that they gave him poison. Bhisma Pita also left his body when he wanted. Srila Prabhupada’s Guru Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura left out of disgust.

2) Lord Krsna was also sometimes shot by the arrow of hunter so this dramas are enacted so as to fool the demons that Krsna is dead. His pure devotee is killed by poison etc.

3) Krsna is God so if He chose He could have Srila Prabhupada moved from the scene and place MAYA Prabhupada – just like maya sita was placed in fire and REAL Sita came out Ravana could NOT touch real Sita.

4) Jesus Christ came in Spiritual body that’s why he was resurrected – Srila Prabhupada’s body was spiritual.

Srila Prabhupada regarding: How to understand a pure devotee’s tribulations

“One thing you may inform all devotees that Maya cannot touch a pure devotee: When you find a devotee is supposed in difficulty it is not the work of Maya but it is the work of the Lord by His Personal internal energy. The Pandava’s tribulation in so many ways, Lord Ramacandra’s departure to the forest, His wife the Goddess of Fortune’s being kidnapped by Ravana, Lord Krishna’s death being caused by the arrow of a hunter, Thakura Haridasa’s being caned in 22 market or Lord Jesus Christ being crucified are all acts of the Lord personally.

"We cannot always understand the intricacies of such incidences. Sometimes they are enacted to bewilder persons who (are) demons. You should therefore discuss in the Istagosthi from current reading matters from B.G. or S.B. We should only try to understand everything from the standard of devotional service. It is stated clearly in the B.G. that anyone who is cent per cent engaged in the service of the Lord is transcendentally situated and the influence of Maya has no more any action on such body. The Lord and His pure devotees are always beyond the range of Maya’s action. Even though they appear like action of Maya, we should understand their action of Yogamaya or the internal potency of the Lord.

My blessings for you all.
I am feeling alright.
Your ever well-wisher

So things take place like that. The queens of Krsna, they could not be touched. But it is a play only. Similarly, Yadu dynasty, the descendants of Krsna, they also could not be killed. But… Just like Krsna was killed by the arrow of a hunter. How Krsna can be killed? But it is for the persons, for the demons, to demonstrate like that, who thinks Krsna as ordinary human being. So for them it is a jugglery. They will still know that “Here your Krsna is killed.” Yes. They will say like that. So tan aham dvisatah kruran ksipamy ajasram asura-yonisu.

"The demons, as they want to forget Krsna, or they do not like to understand Krsna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna plays something like that so that they will be more convinced that Krsna is not God, Krsna is ordinary human being. Tan aham dvisatah kruran. They will remain in darkness forever. Krsna gives chance to everyone. If you want to forget Krsna, Krsna will give you such intelligence, you will talk so intelligently that “Krsna is not God.” Ye yatha mam prapadyante.

"And if you want to know Krsna, then He will give you such intelligence, you will know that “Here is Supreme Personality of Godhead.” This is Krsna’s business … If you want to forget Krsna, Krsna will give you chance to forget Him forever. And you suffer. Because forgetting Krsna, one is not benefited. By knowing Krsna is one benefited. But the demons, raksasas, they suffer, and still they want to forget Krsna. This is their business.

SB 1.15.16 P The Pandavas Retire Timely

The history of Prahlada Maharaja, the great devotee of Nrsimhadeva, is narrated in the Seventh Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam. Prahlada Maharaja, a small child of only five years, became the object of envy for his great father, Hiranyakasipu, only because of his becoming a pure devotee of the Lord. The demon father employed all his weapons to kill the devotee son, Prahlada, but by the grace of the Lord he was saved from all sorts of dangerous actions by his father.

"He was thrown in a fire, in boiling oil, from the top of a hill, underneath the legs of an elephant, and he was administered poison. At last the father himself took up a chopper to kill his son, and thus Nrsimhadeva appeared and killed the heinous father in the presence of the son. Thus no one can kill the devotee of the Lord. Similarly, Arjuna was also saved by the Lord, although all dangerous weapons were employed by his great opponents like Bhisma.

SB 3.14.28 P Pregnancy of Diti in the Evening

Lord Siva never accepts any luxurious dress, garland, ornament or ointment. But those who are addicted to the decoration of the body, which is finally eatable by dogs, very luxuriously maintain it as the self. Such persons do not understand Lord Siva, but they approach him for luxurious material comforts. There are two kinds of devotees of Lord Siva. One class is the gross materialist seeking only bodily comforts from Lord Siva, and the other class desires to become one with him. They are mostly impersonalists and prefer to chant sivo’ham, “I am Siva,” or “After liberation I shall become one with Lord Siva.” In other words, the karmis and jnanis are generally devotees of Lord Siva, but they do not properly understand his real purpose in life.

"Sometimes so-called devotees of Lord Siva imitate him in using poisonous intoxicants. Lord Siva once swallowed an ocean of poison, and thus his throat became blue. The imitation Sivas try to follow him by indulging in poisons, and thus they are ruined. The real purpose of Lord Siva is to serve the Soul of the soul, Lord Krsna. He desires that all luxurious articles, such as nice garments, garlands, ornaments and cosmetics, be given to Lord Krsna only, because Krsna is the real enjoyer. He refuses to accept such luxurious items himself because they are only meant for Krsna.

However, since they do not know this purpose of Lord Siva, foolish persons either laugh at him or profitlessly try to imitate him.

Devotee: Prabhupada? Does Lord Jesus Christ appear in the spiritual sky with the body he manifested on the earth?

Srila Prabhupada: Yes. Otherwise how there can be resurrection? Ordinary body
cannot be resurrected. He appeared in his spiritual body, certainly. Jesus Christ told, if I remember, that “Lord, excuse these persons,” who were crucifying him. Is it not? He knew that “These rascals, they are killing me, but… They are offending certainly. So they do not know that I cannot be killed, but they are thinking that they are killing.” You see? But that was offensive, therefore he begged Lord to be excused because God cannot excuse to the offenders of the devotee. He can excuse one who is offender to God, but if somebody is offender to the devotee, God never excuses. Therefore he prayed for them. That is devotee’s qualification. He prays for everyone, even of his enemy. And he could not be killed. That he knew. But those rascals, they thought they were killing Jesus Christ. (Srila Prabhupada Lecture, Los Angeles, January 3, 1969)

Srimad Bhagavatam 9/10/11

“One who does not know the spiritual potency of the Supreme Personality of Godhead thinks of the Lord as an ordinary human being. But the Lord’s mind, intelligence and senses can never be affected by material conditions.”
It was actually impossible for Rāvaṇa to take away Sītā. The form of Sītā taken by Rāvaṇa was an illusory representation of mother Sītā—maya-sītā. When Sītā was tested in the fire, this māyā-sītā was burnt, and the real Sītā came out of the fire.

A further understanding to be derived from this example is that a woman, however powerful she may be in the material world, must be given protection, for as soon as she is unprotected she will be exploited by Rākṣasas like Rāvaṇa. Here the words vaideha-rāja-duhitari indicate that before mother Sītā was married to Lord Rāmacandra she was protected by her father, Vaideha-rāja. And when she was married she was protected by her husband. Therefore, the conclusion is that a woman should always be protected. According to the Vedic rule, there is no scope for a woman’s being independent (asamakṣam), for a woman cannot protect herself independently.

COMMENT: No demon can approach the Lord, or His associates, or bring harm to them in any way. When it appears to happen it should be understood to be part of the Lord’s drama, ‘lila vicitra‘. Agnideva personally carried out Sita unscathed from the fire and she resumed her place with Rama. As the real Sitadevi reappeared from the blazing fire dressed in fine yellow silken ‘sari’, Rama greeted her saying that he never for one moment doubted her purity or chastity, but that this whole ordeal was arranged to remove the doubts of the general populous.

74-04-28.Rup Letter: Rupanuga

You are right about Sridhara Maharaja’s genuineness. But in my opinion, he is the best of the lot. He is my old friend; at least he executes the regulative principles of devotional service. I do not wish to discuss about activities of my Godbrothers but it is a fact they have no life for preaching work. All are satisfied with a place for residence in the name of a temple, they engage disciples to get foodstuff by transcendental devices and eat and sleep.

They have no idea or brain how to broacast the cult of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. My Guru Maharaja used to lament many times for this reason and he thought if one man at least had understood the principle of preaching then his mission would achieve success. In the latter days of my Guru Maharaja he was very disgusted. Actually, he left this world earlier, otherwise he would have continued to live for more years. Still he requested his disciples to form a strong Governing body for preaching the cult of Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

He never recommended anyone to be acarya of the Gaudiya Math. But Sridhara Maharaja is responsible for disobeying this order of Guru Maharaja, and he and others who are already dead unnecessarily thought that there must be one acarya. If Guru Maharaja could have seen someone who was qualified at that time to be acarya he would have mentioned. Because on the night before he passed away he talked of so many things, but never mentioned an acarya. His idea was acarya was not to be nominated amongst the governing body. He said openly you make a GBC and conduct the mission.

So his idea was amongst the members of GBC who would come out successful and self-effulgent acarya would be automatically selected. So Sridhara Maharaja and his two associate gentlemen unauthorizedly selected one acarya and later it proved a failure. The result is now everyone is claiming to be acarya even though they may be kanistha adhikari with no ability to preach. In some of the camps the acarya is being changed three times a year. Therefore, we may not commit the same mistake in our ISKCON camp.

Actually, amongst my Godbrothers no one is qualified to become acarya. So it is better not to mix with my Godbrothers very intimately because instead of inspiring our students and disciples they may sometimes pollute them. This attempt was made previously by them, especially Madhava Maharaja and Tirtha Maharaja and Bon Maharaja but somehow or other I saved the situation. This is going on. We shall be very careful about them and not mix with them. This is my instruction to you all. They cannot help us in our movement, but they are very competent to harm our natural progress. So, we must be very careful about them.

[PADA: Yep in 1978, GBC went straight to Sridhara Maharaja and made him their adviser, to cement in their deviations. People like Pancadravida, Jagat Guru swami, Tripurari swami, Alanath aka Paramadvaiti swami etc., they still are there promoting his relativised guru deviation process.]

Another important point

The fact that some envious so-called devotees tried to harm the pure devotee, Srila Prabhupada, does not mean that the pure devotee is not protected by Krsna, just like the fact that Hari das Thakura was harassed and attempted to be killed by his envious fellow Mohammedans does not mean that he was not protected by Krsna. An ordinary man would probably have died way long before Srila Prabhupada, but He is a Parama hamsa, Maha-Bhagavata..

Pure devotee is most tolerant.

Srila Prabhupada was TOLERANT this is why he did not protest his Poisoning. Here are a few examples on how a Vaisnava does not PERSONALLY protest:

SB 6.1.16 P

When a devotee is put into hellish conditions, he accepts them as Krsna’s mercy: tat te ‘nukampam susamiksamanah (Bhag. 10.14.8). He does NOT PROTEST , “Oh, I am such a great devotee of Krsna. Why have I been put into this misery?” Instead he thinks, “This is Krsna’s mercy.”

30718BG.LON Lectures

This is the qualification of sadhu. Sadhu is TITIKSAVA, tolerates all kinds of miserable conditions. He is sadhu. Because this is a place of miserable condition. A sadhu learns how to tolerate. Sadhu is never disturbed. Yasmin sthito gurunapi duhkhena na vicalyate. A sadhu, who has got the shelter of Krsna, if he is placed in the severest type of dangerous condition, he is never disturbed. Just like Prahlada Maharaja, his father was putting him in s many dangerous conditions, even he was supplying with poison. He knew tht “My father has given me poison to drink. All right, let me drink. If Krsna likes, He will save me. I am now put into such dangerous position. I have to drink. Father is giving poison. Who can check?” And such a big powerful Hiranyakasipu. The mother cried, requested… He forced the mother, Prahlada’s mother, “Give your son this poison.” So she begged so much, but he was a rascal demon.

“NO, YOU MUST GIVE.” SO THE MOTHER KNEW, HER SON ALSO KNEW THAT THE RASCAL FATHER IS GIVING THIS POISON. WHAT CAN HE DO, A SMALL CHILD? “ALL RIGHT, LET ME DRINK.” GURUNAPI DUHKHENA NA VICALYATE. HE IS NOT AGITATING. “ALL RIGHT, IF KRSNA LIKES, I WILL LIVE.” THIS IS THE POSITION OF SADHU. HE IS NOT DISTURBED. TITIKSAVAH. IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, HE IS TOLERANT.

That is sadhu. Sadhu does not become disturbed. Titiksavah. At the same time, karunikah. He is himself disturbed, but he is merciful to others.

730718BG.LON Lectures

Just like Jesus Christ. He is being CRUCIFIED, and still he is merciful: “God, these people do not know what they are doing. Please excuse them.” This is sadhu.

If you want to chant Hare Krsna mantra, then you have to take this principle, trnad api sunicena. You have to become humbler than the grass. Grass, it is lying on the street. Everyone is trampling down. Never protests. In the lawn you are… Everyone is trampling the grass. There is no protest. Taror api sahisnuna.

AND TOLERANT THAN THE TREE. THE TREE IS GIVING US SO MUCH HELP. IT IS GIVING US FRUIT, FLOWER, LEAVES, AND WHEN THERE IS SCORCHING HEAT, SHELTER ALSO. SIT DOWN UNDERNEATH. SO BENEFICIAL, STILL, WE CUT. AS SOON AS I LIKE, I CUT IT DOWN. BUT THERE IS NO PROTEST.

The tree does not say, “I have given you so much help, and you are cutting me?” No. Tolerant. Yes. Therefore Caitanya Mahaprabhu has selected, taror amanina manadena. For oneself one should not expect any respectful position, but he, the devotee, should offer all respect to anyone. Amanina manadena kirtaniyah sada harih. If we acquire this qualification, then we can chant Hare Krsna maha-mantra without any disturbance.

This is the qualification. Srila Prabhupada is a parama hamsa maha-bhagavata, and he tolerates and simply prays to Krsna. Just like His Guru Maharaja.

“MY GURU MAHARAJA ALSO” November 1977

Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakura was also protected by Krsna, but he did not stop his rascal disciples to eventually try to harm him and poison him.
Krsna protects his pure devote, but there is also a plan why this happened: to eventually expose the miscreants and envious so-called devotees who usurped the missionary assets of the pure devotee and this will assist to re-establish Srila Prabhupada as the Acharya of his transcendental movement.

So, was Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura protected by Krsna according to the logic of “pure devotee could not be poisoned, because he is always protected by Lord Krsna”?

Very faulty arguments on their parts. See the quotes below:

Srila Prabhupāda: … my Guru Mahārāja was in his last days, these rascal doctors injected… Our, this Kuñjabihārī, Tīrtha Mahārāja brought so many big, big doctors. And Srila Saraswati protested, “Why are you giving me injection?” He protested. He personally said, “Why are you giving me injection?” And if you bring a doctor, the rascals will not stop. “Oh, that is our treatment. We must try our best.” They will plead like that. “To give more trouble to the patient, that is our business.” Inventing new medicines means inventing new means of giving trouble. That’s all. As soon as you ask them whether by injection the life is guaranteed, they will say, “No. There is no guarantee. Let us try, make experiment.” Yes. In hospital, as soon as you get (microphone moving)… Whatever nonsense knowledge they have got, they make experiment, at the risk of other’s life.

February 14, 1971, Gorakhpur

Srila Prabhupada confirms His Guru Maharaja was also poisoned.

Tamāla Krsna: Did anyone tell you that, or you just know it from before?
Srila Prabhupāda: I read something.
Tamāla Krsna: Ah, I see. That’s why actually we cannot allow anyone else to cook for you.
Srila Prabhupāda: That is good.
Tamāla Krsna: Jayapatāka Mahārāja was telling that one ācārya, Śaṅkarācārya, of the Śaṅkarācārya line—this was a while ago—he was poisoned to death. Since that time, none of the ācāryas or the gurus of the Śankarācārya line will ever take any food cooked except by their own men my Guru Mahārāja was in his last days, these rascal doctors injected… Our, this Kuñjabihārī, Tīrtha Mahārāja brought so many big, big doctors. And he protested, “Why are you giving me injection?” He protested. He personally said, “Why are you giving me injection?”
Srila Prabhupāda: My Guru Mahārāja also.
Tamāla Krsna: Oh. You, of course, have been so merciful that sometimes you would take prasāda cooked by so many different people.
Srila Prabhupāda: That should be stopped. (pause) 1977 Conversations: November, 1977 : Room Conversation — November 8, 1977, Vrndavana, India.
It does not mean the pure devotee died of poisoning, but that envious persons tried to harm Him through poison. Srila Prabhupada left when Krsna wanted Him to.

Bg 1.3 P Observing the Armies on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra

Duryodhana, a great diplomat, wanted to point out the defects of Dronacarya, the great brahmana commander-in-chief. Dronacarya had some political quarrel with King Drupada, the father of Draupadi, who was Arjuna’s wife. As a result of this quarrel, Drupada performed a great sacrifice, by which he received the benediction of having a son who would be able to kill Dronacarya. Dronacarya knew this perfectly well, and yet, as a liberal brahmana, he did not hesitate to impart all his military secrets when the son of Drupada, Dhrstadyumna, was entrusted to him for military education.

Now, on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra, Dhrstadyumna took the side of the Pandavas, and it was he who arranged for their military phalanx, after having learned the art from Dronacarya. Duryodhana pointed out this mistake of Dronacarya’s so that he might be alert and uncompromising in the fighting. By this he wanted to point out also that he should not be similarly lenient in battle against the Pandavas, who were also Dronacarya’s affectionate students. Arjuna, especially, was his most affectionate and brilliant student. Duryodhana also warned that such leniency in the fight would lead to defeat.

730709BG.LON Lectures

Srila Prabhupada: So–intelligent. This Drupada, the son of Drupada, he was meant for killing Dronacarya. Drupada Maharaja was not in good terms with Dronacarya. So he performed a yajna to get a son who could kill Dronacarya. That son is this Draupada. So Dronacarya knew that “Drupada Maharaja has got his son. In future he would kill me.” Still, when he was offered to become his disciple, to learn military art, he accepted, “Yes.” That means the brahmanas were so liberal: “When he is coming as my disciple, never mind, he would kill me in future.

That doesn’t matter. But I must give him teaching.” Therefore this word is used, dhimata, very intelligent: “He has killed the military science from you just to kill you.” Dhimata, tava sisyena. “Your disciple, he has arranged.” This is the pointing out. So that he may be angry: “This rascal has learned from me and he wants to kill me?”

But no. Duty is duty. After all, everyone will die; nobody will exist. So nobody should be afraid of death. This is Vedic civilization. Death is inevitable. “As sure as death.” Who can avoid death? So being afraid of death, we should not deviate from our duties, real duty. That is Vedic civilization. So Duryodhana wanted to point out “That this boy, your disciple, he… It is fixed up that he’s meant for killing you, and he has arranged nicely military phalanx just to defeat you. And he has learned this art from you.”

Therefore, he is using this word, dhimata. Dhi, dhi means intelligence. Dhimat-sabda. Dhimat. Dhi means intelligence, and mat means “one who possesses.” Asty arthe matup-pratyaya. When one possesses something, in this sense, this pratyaya… In Sanskrit there are pratyayas. So matup pratyaya. So matup. From matup, it comes to mat. Sanskrit language means it is so reformed that each and every word has significance. Not that like your English language. “Beauty but peauty put.(?)” No, not like that.

If you say “beauty but,” you must say, “peauty put.” But no, you change: beauty but peauty put. Why? This kind of change cannot be allowed in Sanskrit language. If the “u” means “ah,” just like beauty but, then it must always mean like that, no change. So dhimata. Dhi means intelligence. Dhi means intelligence.

So one who has got intelligence. Every word is used with full meaning. Sanskrit language is so nice. Therefore it is called Sanskrit, Sanskrit, Samskrta. Samskrta means reform. And the alphabets are called devanagari. Devanagari means these alphabets… Just like in Europe the Roman letters are used, similarly, in the upper planetary system these alphabets are used, devanagari, used in the cities of the demigods. And the language is called Samskrta, “most reformed.” And Sanskrit is the mother of all languages.

770219r3.may Conversations

Srila Prabhupada: That is our gain. I think it will improve our position. Adi-kesava: Improve our position.
Srila Prabhupada: By this agitation our position will be improved. Prahlada Maharaja was suppressed in so many means. What was loss on his part? He improved more and more, more and more. If Christ were not crucified, then his cult would not have spread so much all over the world. The Christian cult was spread all over the world after demise of Christ, not during his time. Is it not?
Satsvarupa: Yes. The history was that there were many… At that time there many, many cults, and that was just another cult during the Roman Empire, and then that cult became very, very dominant.
Srila Prabhupada: Because he was persecuted, his cult became so spread.
A pure Vaishnava thinks that hellish conditions are Krishna’s mercy. He does not personally protest.
