One day I was peacefully reading Teachings of Lord Chaitanya in the brahmacari ashrama. A Prabhupada-disciple walked in, saw me reading and said, “Do you understand that book? Why are you reading something you can’t understand?”
Indirectly, he was telling me not to read this book. Prabhupada disciples had a lot of power -- because they are God brothers of the zonal-acaryas, and they couldn’t be disobeyed, or else. Even nonsensical instructions had to be obeyed.
Another time I was studying Sanskrit and was enjoying the experience of learning a new language. A Prabhupada disciple saw what I was up to and he too, told me I was wasting my time. It was another interest that I had to ditch, or else.
These two examples show how freedom to develop a natural interest in perfectly bona-fide subjects were prevented on the whims of individuals who thought they knew better. Such were the dynamics of living full-time in a temple. Institutional power -- or power derived from being a God brother of a "guru" is problematic in inexperienced hands.
It is these type of experiences I write posts about, to warn others about the pitfalls of institutionalism. I know what it’s like to be on the receiving end of bad advice that you cannot question. I don’t wish it for others either.

[PADA: Same experience I have had with many of the "God brothers." Prabhu, we cannot be like the Christians and worship Srila Prabhupada. That is the bogus ritvik deviation. Nope! We have to worship my God brother pals, who are often: engaged in illicit sex with men, women and children; drinking Vodka; watching porno; taking drugs; staying at Howard Johnson motels -- watching football and ordering out pizza delivery; offering LSD to the shalagram; changing the books; eating huge feasts while the gurukula kids are being starved; living like Saudi princes while the rank and file are struggling in funky old apartments, etc.
You are right prabhu. For the most part, they thought they knew better. For the most part, they didn't. Yes, many of them compromised with the bogus guru process so they would have some sort of post of respect and authority as part of the "chosen special group." Which would be fine, if they actually executed the program Srila Prabhupada wanted, but as we all know, that is not what happened.
God brothers like Kamsahanta wanted me to stop writing altogether, so the molester messiah's program would not have our opposition. And he was very worried the molester messiah's program "would lose our buildings" if we sued them for the molesting. Notice, the molester messiah's buildings are "ours" which means he identifies with their program and its bricks and stones corporate shell. It is "our" buildings and thus "our" program.
Yep, most of the people who have objected to PADA / our Prabhupadanuga-ism idea etc. over the years have been, the God brothers. So they went off the deep end along with the bogus guru leaders -- at least so much so, that became the direct or de fact process going on all over the ISKCON society. A new devotee just asked me where he can live as a brahmacari in an ISKCON temple and just worship Prabhupada. I told him, there are none. That is the result of so many God brothers "going along to get along" with these deviations.
The good news is, more people are figuring this out, even some of the God brothers are waking up.
