Astrological Predictions for a Pandemic (Jagadish Ananda Gunn)

[PADA: Not really a big fan of astrology overall, in part because I have had sometimes discouraging interactions with a few ISKCON astrologers. Some of them just wanted to paper over "the problems" and become in house "advisors" to some of the bogus gurus and their camps. We also know a few people who got really bad "marriage compatibility" advice and they wanted to sue their devotee astrologers. That being said! This particular analysis looks like pretty good advice on various points. ys pd]  angel108b@yahoo.com

Astrological Predictions for a Pandemic

The Relapse of Moha

Ever wonder how the Roaring Twenties got that name? They were a period of intense partying that followed the pandemic of the Spanish Flu; evidently a relapse of moha is typical. So this article is to offer an important warning, to caution devotees about what’s next.

Currently we have experienced the very rare combination of a solar eclipse, as well as the conjunction of six planets, and an extended period of kala sarpa, a combination that looks similar to the one that appeared at the beginning of Kali-yuga five thousand years ago.

The purpose of this post is to bring to notice the movements of Jupiter and Saturn that are currently affecting us. At the time of the eclipse on December 26th, 2019, they were in the sign of Sagittarius within 15 degrees of one another. On March 30th, 2020, Jupiter entered Capricorn and conjoined Mars and Saturn within 6 degrees. This was at the height of the original greatest spikes in the Covid-19 pandemic. This combination of Mars, Saturn and Jupiter also occurred in Aquarius in 1345, the time of the Bubonic Plague.

Upcoming Transits

Jupiter and Saturn drifted apart throughout the summer. Tensions eased for five months. Moving slowly, by mid- September of this year, the two planets will observe planetary distancing by seven degrees. This temporary ease is misleading, however, because Jupiter shall cease his retrograde travel and return for a rendezvous with Saturn. In the meanwhile, from July to November, people will be able to return to pre-epidemic illusory enjoyments.

Jupiter is currently making atypical jaunts, transiting back and forth in relationship to Saturn’s slower orbit. Various pandemic restrictions will be lifted. However, the powerful conjunction that initiated the problem in the first place, will re-occur December 21, 2020.

Sadly, this is predicted to reoccur at the time when people will meet with family and friends for the Holidays, and in big style because of the pent up energies they feel due to the restriction of sense gratification for months. This is the prime incubation time for agents of disease, winter months spent in doors.

We devotees must be cautious of these times, not to jump into the world wide social fever of lessening restrictions for the sake of festivals or face to face preaching and such. The crisis will heighten in December and continue until April 2021 when Jupiter and Saturn will separate and their combined impact will weaken.

Observing the planetary combination of December 2019, many Vedic astrologers predicted economic fallout or war, while the eclipse signified political conflict and hatred among men. The devotee astrologer (Jagadish Ananda) who is the source of the analysis of research for this article predicted, “I don’t see how life as we know it can go on.”

Historical Effects of Jupiter/Saturn

The conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn occurs every twenty years, and it is always a time which landmarks certain large scale mundane changes. The last time was in the sign of Capricorn, in 1961, a time when society took a major turn via an upheaval of the status quo of the 1960’s, a time which produced a generation of people that flaunted moral and ethical values. Science became king. There was violent political unrest.

A significant Saturn / Jupiter conjunction occurred one year previous to the bombing of the twin trade towers, aka “9-11”. Major economic depression, unprecedented unemployment and homelessness have occurred in the U.S. and abroad ever since.

Much farther back, when modern medical science did not prevail, people looked to astrologers to predict disease in the population. Aristotle testifies to this in his book, Concerning the causes of the properties of the elements, in which he says, “mortality of races and the depopulation of kingdoms occur at the conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter, for great events then arise, their nature depending on the trigon in which the conjunction occurs.”

During those times European scholars considered disease to be due to influences carried by astral winds, so the term “influenza” was created. In 1345, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn convened in Aquarius. At that time a Bubonic plague called the Black Death hit from 1346-1353 and killed approximately twenty-five million people, one third of the population of the continent of Europe.

What do Jupiter and Saturn Represent?

Jupiter represents charity, benevolence, and spiritual intelligence. In the mundane world, Jupiter represents charitable persons who are more active than usual now in research efforts. Jupiter also represents front line workers who sacrifice at the cost of their own well-being. Jupiter is called Guru in Sanskrit. Jupiter’s meeting in the sky with Saturn, the cold, restrictive, karma-bestowing agent, spells intense conflict; but for devotees of Krishna it is at the heart of our purification.

While Jupiter recognizes that Saturn has lessons to teach us and punishment to dole out, he is always the champion of the living entity, sacrificing for the enlightenment and self-realization of the conditioned soul. Jupiter represents the managers of our temples, brahmanas, teachers, sannyasis, and anyone in a position of inspiring and protecting the devotees’ opportunity to worship and serve Krishna.

Saturn on the other hand, is the one who sends suffering, for example, the increase of disease and death, scarcity of medical supplies and other necessities, dissension among political leaders. Saturn on the spiritual level has pushed devotees to take a better look at what we value. He has separated us from each other. What greater cruelty is that? Saturn represents isolation, confinement, austerity, penance.

He is the celebrity who gives us sad-sati, when he transits through the house of our moon sign and teaches us lessons about ourselves that force us to our knees, to shed our illusions and admit that material life without Krishna consciousness is a no-go, to comprehend that being able to share the message of Krishna is fundamental to who we are.

Better, Finer Preaching

Though it is a tough time for preachers, it is also the good times. The current dualities have caused peoples’ hearts to soften. Concerns about civil rights and environmental destruction, the forerunners of the sixties revolution, are back in the headlines. People want to know why Covid turned their world upside down. Any average Joe on the street is more available if only because he is not as much pre-occupied with the nine to five routine.

New styles of preaching and seminars through social media are quickly developing. More personal cultivation techniques have become obligatory to get Srila Prabhupada’s books out. Targeting specific ripe fruits through telemarketing and thereby getting a full set of Srimad-Bhagavatams into their homes plants thousands of potent seeds for future readers.

This means better connection in spite of temporary distancing. The “good times” for Vaisnava devotees of the Lord are when people make a connection to Krishna and the disciplic succession.

Once in Vrndavana -- Visala dasa was wearing an amulet to protect him from the influence of Rahu, and Srila Prabhupada was informed of it. So Visala asked Prabhupada if he should wear the amulet, and Prabhupada said, “You don’t need this. With one kick of my boot I can destroy a million Rahus.” By hearing of this pastime of Srila Prabhupada we understand that the life of a devotee in not tied up by astrological influences. Pure devotional service is so pristine it soars beyond the influence of karma. Srila Bhaktisiddanta likened astrology to carrying an umbrella due to the forecast of a rainstorm. An accurate astrological prediction may save simply the devotee from getting all wet!

Therefore in the conditioned state, as part of our service to Krishna and guru, we may sometimes wish to take precautions. Carry an umbrella! Wear a mask!

Comment by R dasa:

Yes yes! Very nice post indeed.

We devotees have to take precautionary measures.

Once during a walk Srila Prabhupada said there will be war - a devotee asked Srila Prabhupada what do we do — He said -- simply chant Hare Krishna (seriously what else).

We have seen that Krishna appears simply for the devotees - to protect them -- Partitraya nama sadhu Nama (my sanskrit may be off — B.Gita).

So krishna comes to display Wonderful pastimes for the pleasure of his devotees. We have seen Gajendra the elephant was being tormented for so many years with the crocodiles. Pulling on his leg. But lord Vishnu came to his rescue.

We see the Pandavas from childhood were being harassed but here again Krishna protected them. The queen Darupadi was being humiliated in the great assembly of the Kurus - no one helped her (shame on mankind).

Lord then Krishna made her an unlimited saree. Pariksit was a embryo in the woman of his mother Uttra - he was being killed by Nuclear warfare. Yes Nuclear warfare but Krishna protected him. Why would He not protect his devotees?

We simply have to strive to Become a Devotee, bas. All along Srila Prabhupada has said become a devotee. Now question is, but I am not a pure devotee then what? You simply beg Krishna for protection - it does matter pure or whatever degree we may be. A person enrolled in a school - he is a student and as such is the ward of the principle. We simply wake up. No matter how fallen we are or may be. This is it — it’s a Blessing in disguise.
