Mayapura Management Halts 24hr Kirtana

Mayapur 24 Hr Kirtan dept has been told to no longer hold kirtans inside the temple by the temple management authorities.

The following reasons have been cited.

1) It has been suggested that the performance of loud kirtan is a disturbance to the deities who are resting at night and after Bhoga Arati at noon.

2) It is seen that the early morning kirtan breaks devotees' concentration who assemble to chant Japa.

3) It is seen as an unnecessary move to try and replace the daylong bhajans in the temple hall with harinam sankirtan, as the devotees performing them have been doing so for past many many years and it is now a tradition.

4) There is already a 24 hour kirtan going on in Srila Prabhupada's Bhajan Kutir.

Having gone through several of Srila Prabhupada's Books, one is compelled to bring the following points humbly to the Devotees' kind attention.

CC Ādi 17.123

mṛdaṅga-karatāla saṅkīrtana-mahādhvani
‘hari’ ‘hari’ — dhvani vinā anya nāhi śuni

When the saṅkīrtana movement thus started, no one in Navadvīpa could hear any sound other than the words “Hari! Hari!” and the beating of the mṛdaṅga and clashing of hand bells.

"The International Society for Krishna Consciousness now has its world center in Navadvīpa, Māyāpur. The managers of this center should see that twenty-four hours a day there is chanting of the holy names of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra, with the addition of haraye namaḥ, kṛṣṇa yādavāya namaḥ, for this song was a favorite of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s. But all such saṅkīrtana must be preceded by the chanting of the holy names of the five tattvas — śrī-kṛṣṇa-caitanya prabhu-nityānanda śrī-advaita gadādhara śrīvāsādi-gaura-bhakta-vṛnda. We are already accustomed to chant these two mantras — śrī-kṛṣṇa-caitanya prabhu-nityānanda śrī-advaita gadādhara śrīvāsādi-gaura-bhakta-vṛnda and Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. Now, after these, the other two lines — namely haraye namaḥ, kṛṣṇa yādavāya namaḥ/ gopāla govinda rāma śrī-madhusūdana — should be added, especially in Māyāpur. Chanting of these six lines should go on so perfectly well that no one there hears any vibration other than the chanting of the holy names of the Lord. That will make the center spiritually all-perfect."

Mind you this is a DIRECT ORDER coming from Srila Prabhupada, not a memoir or any conversational statement subject to interpretation according to time, place and circumstance (if there is such a thing).

Also there is ample precedence in the shape of Vrindavan Krishna Balaram Mandir, where Srila Prabhupada himself inaugurated the same.

1) As for the Deities getting disturbed - I dont mean to be offensive to anyone- doen't it sound conspicuously similar to the Smarta Brahmins' protests registered to the Kazi against the Lord's nocturnal Kirtans at Srivasangana?

@ Do we expect the same Lordship to now feel discomforted by Sankirtan?

2) As for the devotees' concentration being disturbed during Japa,
@ do we really aim to please the Lord by displeasing Srila Prabhupada by stopping the Sankirtan that His Divine Grace expressly desires in Prabhupada's temple as is evident in the above verse?

3) As for the Decades long tradition of singing Bhajans in the temple hall,
@ can we really excuse ourselves from the responsibility of facilitating the Sankirtan on the plea of Tradition?

@ How many traditions did Srila Prabhupada break by awarding sacred thread to the westerners or all the countless worship-able adjustments His Divine Grace made to spread his Sankirtan movement?

@ If the traditions are not in accord with Srila Prabhupada's express desire and order should they not be replaced?

4) As for the Kirtan going on in Bhajan kutir,
@If the Bhajan kutir is the main temple, why are we expending all the time, money, and energy in making the TOVP?

@ Did Srila Prabhupada himself not start the 24 hour kirtan in Vrindavan right in front of the temple deities and not in his quarters there?

@ If Gauranga Mahaprabhu is the Yugpurush, the enjoyer of sacrifices in the Iron age of Kali, should not the loud chanting of Hare Krishna take place in front of Him and His associates as desired by Srila Prbhupada?

I will just add a few more lines before finishing.

@ Anybody who has attended kirtans in Vrindavan or for that matter in any ISKCON temple can feel the difference in the mood with which it is being done in Bhajan kutir.

@ Songs of Vaishnav Acharyas are presentations of the philosophy in a simple language and urge one and all to chant the Holy Name. Prabhupada clearly desires us to take it up directly.

@ describes it as the "Kirtan Capital of the World". Is it not unbecoming of the capital to not have a thriving inspired 24 hour Kirtan programme?

@ Prabhupada has blessed that "this would make Mayapur spiritually all perfect". Dont we need that?

@ After all Mayapur Candrodaya Mandir is the Headquarters of the "Hare Krishna Movement". The "Sankirtan Movement" that Srila Prabhupada inaugurated in America by performing "Harinam Sankirtan" in Tompkins Square Park.

I can go on and on with this.

I would humbly urge the management to kindly revisit their verdict and if not anything else then just in the spirit of ISKCON 50, work positively to fulfill this long overdue desire of our most merciful Founder Acharya.

I pray to devotees to kindly take it up.

    News from mayapura unfortunately not very pleasant. 24 hrs kirtan in the temple of the department of Sri Sri Radha-Madkhavy fully closed and kirtan now suspended.
    2 years, we used to do kirtan in bhajan kutire and 1 year in the temple of the closed during the altar, (20:00-4:30 and 13:00-16:00), to prove our stability. After the recent meetings with top managers council pankangdzhangri d. And dzhananivasa d. Management decides that God should rest at this time and in altarnoy must not make any noise. Although there are personal guidance from shrily prabkhupady on the establishment of a 24 hours in the temple of Ananda Ramana and so is a letter from him about that, in the new temple mayapure must constantly net Holy names.
    The second reason was the closure that loyal who come to the altar before mangalarati read dzhapu not satisfied with the noise and they can't concentrate on the holy names. This was the answer to that, in principle, for the last 30 minutes before the aarti we can also read dzhapu, but the first paragraph already straddled in principle this complaint.
    At the request of the singing with the open altar of management said no. There's already bengalis singing bkhadzhany and it's been going on for 20-30 years.
    In the year 2014, the GBC decided in paragraph 314 that the hare krishna mantra should be the main mantra at all kirtanakh.

    The question is why then in the temple remained bkhadzhany main song management responded that it's their culture and people singing their tied to these songs.
    Management closes 24 hrs kirtan project in a positive manner. They're offering to sing on the street or in bhajan kutire shrily prabkhupady. But the question can loyal with time to cover the full 24 hours in kutire again no answer is there grandfather who sparklers already do this for 20-30 years and it's their bread. That's all they can to highlight there is 3 hours.
    Of course they want and are going to meet any endeavour and draft and therefore the only option that they offered it to sing on the street in a clearing. They are ready to invest a minimum amount of money to make a simple awning from tselofana from the sun and put the 2 fan from the heat.
    Unfortunately now all loyal in the department is not inspired to do this service in this form, because the idea is lost, for the sake of which everyone came here to sing for fun pancha-Tattvy and Sri Radha-Madkhavy and sing all the time. Basically us politely shut down.
    24 hrs kirtan gives an advantage in that any loyal may at any time to join kirtanu and commit sankirtana-Yagʹyu.
    Within a couple of months, all participants of the project move from mayapura kirtan at 24 hours in a suitable, where there are no such problems.
    Now loyal, who know the whole story of the project is advised to give this case wide oklasku on the internet and collect signatures of those who are passionate about and wants to see a 24-hour Maha-mantra kirtan in mayapure in the main temple and this affect the managers.
