Why have 20 devotees with 20 cars and 20 separate houses or apartments? How about one new van and share expenses? Sure a small farm, garden and cow are great but are not for everyone. Having many choices available for sanctuary is the point! Multi-generational community for mothers, children and the elders to be protected and cared for.
Combine resources and funds to for simple living high thinking and get debt free! Sharing a house in the city or neighborhood, an apartment complex, or a duplex for example. Maybe some of these Christian churches can be converted (they are cheap and many have rooms for devotees) How about purchasing a motel for sale? Have devotees in each room and a central kitchen.
VMD: This will happen out of dire necessity as the economy collapses. In other words, devotees will only act when forced to act. Same with the entire world of course. The problem is, it will be much more difficult to get things in order by the time we realize the urgent need to. Will it be too late?
Maybe, for some. But generally I think devotees will come together eventually in some shape or form. Those that live in the cities are going to have a very hard time. Srila Prabhupada said the cities will become piles of melted steel and rubble. So we have to heed Srila Prabhupadas warnings.
LD: Can they all get along in harmony? ISKCON congregation shows not! Especially among women who love to gossip and form cliques.
PL: The saddest thing is that most of devotees don't want really to leave their modern comfortable life style and be engaged in work on the land. That's one reason why Iskcon doesn't have successful self sufficient communities. It's not only hard work on land that is needful for that, there are easier ways like permaculture, collecting from nature.

But even that is too hard for most of devotees!!! So we have a society of spoiled brats, unfortunately, who want to do only temple seva (inside of temple building). I leave close to such a community, and I work outside on a farm, maintaining service (parks, flowers, herbs, outside stuffs...). I tried to teach them collecting and preparing edible and healing herbs and herbal products for farm, for earning money for temple with that, for be self sufficient ... But neither any 1 of them didn't show interest. So, that speaks all. They all want to live on farm (with a holiday life style), but they don't want to work on a farm. Farm is hard work ... they want to avoid.
NH Dasi: They cannot cooperate. Too much ego ruins ruci.
NH Dasa: This is very utopian thinking, and it has been done before. I'm thinking of ISKCON Miami hotel mid 80s. I clearly remember my mother begging to use a car to take me to the hospital. Good leadership is hard to come by. From what I've seen -- the most successful community's are the ones where everyone has their own private land around a central community property -- with Temple and School. I can relate to the concept though.
CD: The Godless leaders of the society are blind themselves and their followers are also blind. So blind men leading blind men has no meaning. ... Utopia.
NH Dasa: I agree it would please Srila Prabhupada if a community was established properly, my comment is based on what I witnessed in ISKCON over the last 45 years, I'm constantly thinking of how to establish a community in southern California but I find its difficult to get even 3 or 4 people to actually cooperate.
A central community temple or hall with a school and a common farmland but I feel the individuals need there own private property or no one takes responsibility.
DK Dasi: No leaders! Cooperative with mature adults.
CD: Srila Bhaktisiddhanta’s order was that his leading disciples “work conjointly” and “without any quarrel”
VMD: Charles David What about Srila Prabhupada's order? Don't jump over guru. Are you trying to tell Srila Prabhupada what to do? Srila Prabhupada said his godbrothers were envious of him, and that is the reason for the strife and non cooperation that came about in the movement.

Today we have everyone trying to be acharya. If you want to follow Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswatis order, remember he said to form a GBC and the self effulgent acharya will automatically manifest. Clearly that was Srila Prabhupada. So any one of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvatis disciples who tried to become acharya instead of cooperating with Srila Prabhupada, the self effulgent acharya, has disobeyed Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvatis order.
JH: Move to India. We can do there.
WM: Obeiscances. Where in India can we do it? I am travelling around India now. Can you point me in the right direction please?
RD: A great idea.
JK: Yes definitely needed.
