INVITATION TO MEET ON BBT EDITING:
Full Disclosure and Heart-to-heart Sharing
on Editing Srila Prabhupada’s Writings
Initiated by Garuda Das, PhD
Four Discussants:
Full Disclosure and Heart-to-heart Sharing
on Editing Srila Prabhupada’s Writings
Initiated by Garuda Das, PhD
Four Discussants:
Jayadvaita Swami
Dravida Das
Bhutatma Das, PhD
Garuda Das, PhD
The purpose of this meeting is not to debate the editing that has been done to Srila Prabhupada’s books. Rather, the purpose is to come together, for the sake of pleasing Srila Prabhupada and the unsettled hearts of devotees, to form a collective understanding of Srila Prabhupada’s instructions on the editing of his books. Together we will look at how the devotional, theological, ethical, and professional aspects of editing can be aligned with these instructions.
Each of the discussants will bring to the discussion all the experience, training, intelligence, and devotional insights that they can offer to bear upon this important theme. For example, the Swami and Dravida, both authorized by the BBT to engage in the service of editing BBT books, have decades experience working with Srila Prabhupada’s books and they know the challenges of doing so. Bhutatma and Garuda, both who have had official publishing and editorial experience and relationships with the BBT in the past, have earned PhD’s in their respective fields and have been professionally trained as published scholars.
However, all four devotees are disciples of Srila Prabhupada and have been loyal to ISKCON and the BBT for decades in their respective ways. Thus, it is safe to say that all four can come together with the primary motive and objective to please the Founder-Acharya of ISKCON’s BBT and to create a heart-to-heart discussion on what’s really important for editing and preserving the integrity of Srila Prabhupada’s books for posterity. (The bios of the discussants will be available below.)
WHEN: Within a year’s time at a mutually acceptable time—perhaps sometime between March 15th and May 31st of 2019.
WHERE: Perhaps Los Angeles, the original of the BBT, or perhaps New York. A venue for devotees and facility for video recording and streaming.
WHAT POINTS OF DISCUSSION: The discussants will submit a list of questions that they each feel are important to cover in such a discussion.
FORMAT: A moderator will be chosen, who would be acceptable to the participants, and who will assist in moving the discussion along.
