After physical therapy in the morning, the doctor said Ram das is much more responsive and present. We make sure to spend time with Ram das doing some movements with him and massaging his arms and legs. He also seems to enjoy and respond a bit to hearing recordings of chanting and songs or melodies that he has written. The other day we were blessed with a wonderful surprise - he opened his eye wide, looked right at his wife Dhrti and gently smiled! He managed to do this 3 times. Then he moved his leg and foot. This has been more activity than we have seen in a couple weeks since his infection. Needless to say, we are overjoyed by this unexpected gift!
Although small, it’s these little improvements during this difficult time that keep us going and give us hope! However, we do try to maintain a level of detachment, as the doctors have been telling us that his progress will be unpredictable and can come in waves of progress followed by lulls. This makes it absolutely excruciating to endure, but we are grateful when these moments of progress happen.
Though it is hard for us to think too far in the future, we are faced with the daunting financial reality and risk of trying to get Ram das home. It is going to be extremely expensive to get medical assistance on his flight back to the US. As much as we try to resist, we know that we cannot do this alone. We are humbled to ask our community for help during such a challenging crisis and are eternally grateful for everyone’s continued support, shares and prayers.
