A Few Russia / Ukraine News Bites 04/19/22

Good idea. But the devotees have to develop peace
among themselves, before they can teach others.

Ukraine War Divides the Church:

PADA: Yep, Srila Prabhupada says, both sides are praying for God to save their side's soldiers. God is perplexed?

New Charges for "Russia House" devotees in India.

Taking money from Ukraine devotees offering safe passage, and then fleeing with their money.

===========================

One Indian lady who is my Tik Tok friend made a video explaining that when the shelling started, she hid in her bathroom. That is what saved her, her whole apartment had been blown up and there was sharp metal shrapnel from the explosion that cut through her refrigerator, and would have "chopped me to pieces" if she had been out there.

She was able to make it to Poland later, carrying a plastic bag with a few salvaged clothes, that was all she had left. She said "I am glad that my refrigerator was designated as a military target, at least we know who the real enemy is." She still has some humor after all that! Clearly, Russians are killing anyone who happens to be in Ukraine, without discrimination.

===============

Sheer hypocrisy and stupidity.

I don’t know who Caitanya Candrodaya is, whose disciple he is, but definitely not Prabhupada's disciple and he behaves exactly like a deceitful politician who uses Prabhupada, Krsna and sastra for his own selfish purposes, also hiding behind imaginary patriotism, love for the motherland and worries for Ukraine but he doesn't really care about it.

His publication is called that many do not understand what is happening in Ukraine, and gives his own illusory interpretation of events, but in reality everything is as follows.

Ukraine, its inhabitants and government, since August 24, 1991, have committed all sorts of sins in huge numbers and are now reaping the fruits of these sins. And instead of letting material nature deal with the demons by the means by which it does this, including fighting and killing, Ukrainian devotees take one side and goes against material nature, that is, Krishna, because this is His energy. They howl against the will of Krishna, against His laws, trying to stop the inevitable. That is, the devotees behave like demons or help the demons.

[PADA: Everyone involved has their specific karma. A captured Russian soldier said he was picking up the dismembered hands, arms, legs, and heads of his slaughtered colleagues -- and he was trying to put them back together for some sort of burial arrangement. Of course many were burned or blown up beyond recognition. So this is also what happens in a slaughterhouse, chopping up, burning etc. and both parties will be subject to the same rules.

Neither side can avoid the laws of nature, that is true. Should a devotee take arms in this conflict? Well probably not, but if someone is conscripted to go there, he might not have a lot of good choices. Again, very complex karma is involved here, and it is not easy to disassemble readily.

As Srila Prabhupada says, the demons will kill each other. And now Russian people are losing their jobs, their money, their economy, and they are becoming hated just for being born there. And because of the sanctions there are shortages, and so forth. So, the karma will spread around in different ways, and the individual devotees have very little impact on altering that process.

Yes, this is karma, but it is karma for both sides, both are sinful, and now Krishna has arranged a buzz saw to take a lot of them out. Unfortunately, various Krishna devotees are in the middle of all this, but that too is -- their previous karma catching up. We do not instantly remove all our karma just by attempting to surrender to Krishna.]

Ukrainian devotees constantly say about the aggressors that they need to be killed immediately, but at the same time their government is not the aggressors? Why didn't you kill them? How many cows and animals did they kill during their reign? Millions?

How much money was stolen? Did you punish them? You walked around with hearts and flowers, sang and danced, and when Russia attacked, you suddenly became great ksatriyas in a couple of days. Do Russian soldiers break into your houses and kill you, or do you yourself, voluntarily, go and sign up for the Ukrainian army?

Okay, Russia is bombing cities. Flashback to World War II, 1942, Japan bombing Calcutta, Prabhupada is there, he has to leave his house and take refuge in a shelter. After this incident, Prabhupada went to enlist in the Indian army to kill the Japanese? After the end of World War II, did Prabhupada hate the Japanese? Moreover, the first country he wanted to go to was not the United States, but Japan, he was invited there to an international meeting and he accepted the invitation, the Japanese prepared everything for his arrival, he only had to get there, but the Indian government did not give money for the trip, and Prabhupada did not have his own means, he had already taken sannyasa by that time.

And don't lie! Prabhupada did not instruct the Ukrainian devotees to fight against Russia. Some people have big problems with their ego. It is better to read and think carefully about the instructions of Krishna from the Bhagavad-gita, and especially 18.58:

"If you become conscious of Me, you will pass over all the obstacles of conditional life by My grace. If, however, you do not work in such consciousness but act through false ego, not hearing Me, you will be lost."

Ukrainian devotees now have their false ego instead of Krishna. They listen to false ego, not to Krishna. The outcome is obvious. It's just tamas, not spirituality.

[PADA: It is a mess. But there is no easy way out of this mess, because the material world is relentless and karma is very complex. Another devotee from Russia told PADA -- one of the reasons Russian devotees are not taking sides, or they take Russia's side, or they avoid discussing this war is, they are afraid of being arrested for discussing it at all.

It is currently illegal to discuss "the war" starting with, no one can even call it "a war." So that is the karma is being born in Russia, it is a repressive state. And the devotees there have to take whatever precautions they need to, to avoid being arrested and targeted as dissenters. I agree.

There are many mixed up feelings even among devotees. There are devotees who are glad this war happened, as it is destroying the GBC's biggest empire. There are devotees who are glad that this war happened, because it will induce many people to start to make alternate energies -- and save the planet from climate disasters, by reducing the oil coming out of Russia. In other words, you cannot please everyone. And of course there are many devotees who are appalled at the whole thing and they are upset to see all the carnage. Very understandable also.

In general, a devotee should be neutral to the affairs of the material world, although granted, that is sometimes difficult to do, especially if you are living in Russia or Ukraine right now. Sometimes, all we can do is pray to Krishna to save ourselves from the onslaught of the material world. We may not be able to save much else, but at least we should try to save ourselves. ys pd]

[JD: There are no winners when the modes of ignorance are in charge of who wins. Everyone loses. ISKCON's leaders are also in the modes of ignorance. That is why they are always attracted to making pedophiles into their acharyas. The only way to win with these people is to take shelter of the higher modes.]
