And further blows have been dealt by an insidious ‘deprogramming’ of another sort, the voluntary return to materialistic ways by full-time practicing devotees. Some have decided that avoiding four sinful activities and chanting sixteen rounds of Hare Krishna daily may have been appropriate for their youth, but in growing older, they have opted for a more ‘normal’ way of life. Yet even through the worst of these attacks and disillusions, despite all the propaganda and risk, the new generation of devotees is heeding the call of Krishna’s flute.
