ISKCON Child Protection Fails / Devaki Dasi's Institute for Spiritual Culture 01 12 26

DESIRING TO BECOME AN IMPORTANT PERSON (DEVAKI DASI)

In The Nectar of Devotion, Chapter Three, Srila Prabhupada explains:

"Therefore, anyone who has any desire or aspiration for satisfying his senses by becoming more and more important, either in the material sense or in the spiritual sense, cannot actually relish the really sweet taste of devotional service."

PADA: Very obvious then -- what is the cause of all the problems with the constant fall downs, failure and scandals of the GBC gurus. They are not tasting the actual process of Krishna consciousness. Ravindra swarupa said he wanted to be a blissful devotee, but instead became a pencil pushing dried out bureaucrat.

Satsvarupa said -- "the more I chant the drier it gets," and it is obvious many of these guys have had all sorts of physical and psychological ailments and issues due to not experiencing actual Krishna consciousness.

OK another example -- Hansadutta was having sex with half dozen ladies and he was drinking Vodka, beer, peppermint schnaps and he was loaded on drugs like percodans. Clearly many of these big gurus are not having much devotional taste. That is because they are not actually devotees of Krishna, they are mundane men posing artificially as saints.

Reading this statement for the first time with attention deeply affected my heart. It struck me how we have to give up this deep-rooted desire of becoming a more and more important person – even in a spiritual sense – if we want to eventually taste the sweet fruits of pure bhakti. Unless we give up the desire for fame and recognition, we will simply taste the fruits of ego satisfaction.

Such fruits have a very different taste than the fruits of pure devotion. We may often confuse those two kinds of fruits, and we may easily mistake the taste of ego satisfaction to be the taste coming from devotional service. But there is a vast difference between them – as different as iron is from gold.

If we are not fully satisfied in our devotional life, not relishing the sweet taste of our services, we may ask ourselves, “What is my motivation? Maybe I desire fame and recognition? Maybe I am not truly selfless and unmotivated?”

In Sri Guru-vandana, His Holiness Gour Govinda Maharaja warns us:

"Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati says, jadera pratistha, sukarera vistha. Labha, puja, pratistha – desires for name, fame and adoration – are the stool of a she-hog. [From Vaishnava Ke?] The Vaishnava who runs after this name, fame, and adoration is merely running after the stool of a she-hog, sukarera vistha.

PADA: Gaura Govinda maharaja told me he agrees, the GBC is making homosexuals and pedophiles into "Vishnupada" acharyas. He said Kali yuga has entered the highest places in ISKCON.

But -- he insisted, he STILL has to tolerate, cooperate and work with them. I said, why? And his followers said, otherwise we won't have a building. OK so we have to cooperate, tolerate and work with the worship of homosexuals and pedophiles as Vishnupada messiahs no less -- to get a bunch or rocks and cement buildings?

Meawhile the children are being beaten and raped, but so what -- I get a stones and cement building for ME and MY needs. The children are not a problem, the problem is -- I, me and my NEEDs, and I NEED a pile of rocks and cement. It is amazing that this woman thinks cooperating with homosexual and pedophile guru programs is not the problem, but lets not forget, she is working with them too.

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta has cautioned us that we should be very, very careful not to run after name, fame and adoration because it creates a great obstacle to the growth of the bhakti-lata. Instead of making advancement, your advancement will be checked and you may fall down."

The desire for recognition may manifest in very subtle forms, and thus we may not so easily detect it. The process of Krishna consciousness offers ample opportunities to place ourselves in the centre and feed our false ego. Giving classes and leading kirtans may create an ideal forum for trying to receive such gratification.

In the name of Krishna consciousness, we can do the opposite of what we should be doing: Instead of subduing and dissolving the false ego, we can feed and expand it to the maximum. It is all going on in the name of devotional service. In this way, we can miss the target of spiritual practice entirely. Instead of developing pure devotion to the Lord and His devotees, we may simply use the process of devotional practice for our own self-aggrandisement.

It requires introspection and honesty to detect those weeds within our hearts. We have to reflect: “What am I trying to do here? Am I trying to cultivate pure devotion to the Lord, or am I on an ego trip, running after the fruits of satisfying my ego? What is my motive?”

We can easily maintain our hopes and illusions, thinking that these fruits of ego satisfaction are also very tasty and juicy. We may even mistake them to be the fruits of devotional service, believing that we are doing the right thing. But we are not. We are missing the goal.

As Srila Prabhupada explains, when we run after such ego satisfaction, trying to become a more and more important person – even in a spiritual sense – we cannot experience the really sweet taste of devotional service.

Therefore, we do need a confidential, well-wishing friend on our side who has no other interest except assisting us in our spiritual growth. Such a person will be able to help us distinguish the weeds from the bhakti-lata. On our own, we may be lost.

Your servant, Devaki dd

PADA: OK first of all notice that the GBC has to find people from Poland, Ukraine, Lativia, Russia etc. to be their spokespeople nowadays, the rest of the world is pretty much not interested because their scandals are widely known here. Anyway, she is talking about mundane motivations clouding our bhakti, and the GBC re-instated Bhavananda as their Vishnupada acharya, despite reports he was having oral sex with taxi drivers in the dham.

And the reason why? As I was told by some of the people at the meeting, was that Bhavananda is close friends with a big financial Mayapur donor, so they had to keep him in the guru post to keep the money flowing. Same things when there was a call to get rid of Lokanath, well prabhu, we cannot get rid of him, he has a lot of big donor disciples, so we need to keep him in the guru post.

Same thing here, when the GBC met in Berkeley to discuss the drunken womanizer Hansadutta messiah of the jagat, I interrupted the meeting and said he has to go, and the GBC said no, -- he has to stay "or we will lose his followers and all the collections of money." So this Devaki lady is talking about mundane motivations, and the GBC guru program is full of it.

She also promotes Niranjan swami, who is 2/3 show of hands voted into the oral sex with taxi drivers Vishnupada society -- as one of their co-Vishnupadas. She also promotes Bhakti Purushottama Swami, who a sannyasa disciple of HH Jayapataka Swami, and who has been an active member of ISKCON since 1978 -- and leader at Mayapur -- which has been called "Auschwitz for kids" by some of the victims.

So this lady is talking about distinguishing the bhakti beeja from other beejas, but her society is full of people who promote homosexuals, pedophiles, drunks, perverts, porno swamis etc. as God's successors. What kind of beeja are they giving people here?

Sulochana said even a dog will not worship a homosexual and pedophile guru, because God gives the dog common sense. Sulochana said only degraded and evil Satanic people promote worship of homosexuals and pedophiles as God's successors, because they hate God and want to misrepresent God. Anyway, she is making a good argument, but mostly to the people who have no ability to discriminated the difference -- what is the bhakti beeja and what is the homosexual and pedophile beeja.

In any case, she is now saying the children are our future, which is good, except training children to worship a homosexual and pedophile guru program is harming children and not saving them. No one has ever gone back to Godhead by worshiping a guru lineage of debauchees, drunks, pedophiles and deviants, and no one ever will.

This is going to keep those children locked into the material world, and not save them. Meanwhile she herself seems to have no idea if illicit sex with men, women and children is "part of the eternal tradition of God's guru parampara," or not? But if she is being trained by the leaders of an oral sex with taxi drivers in the dham Vishnupada acharyas program, she will never know what is the bhakti beeja and what is not.

She should not be lecturing others until she gets all of this clear herself. She thinks we should not compromise with mundane motives, or to the forces of evil in false bhakti, then she quotes a person who has to compromise with his homosexual and pedophile acharyas process to get some bricks and cement reward, as the children in his operation are getting starved, beat, molested and are committing suicide. I feel bad for her, she evidently has no clue what is the real bhakti beeja, and what is the homosexual and pedophile messiah's beeja.

SRD: Recently Mother Mukhya welcomed Bhakti Purushottam Swami (BPS) to give class at the Alachua temple. There are some allegations of child sexual abuse perpetrated by Bhakti Purushottam Swami.

The allegations were confirmed by Anuttama das in a letter he wrote to the NA temples before BPS visited the USA.

In his letter Anuttama stated that it is up to the discretion of each individual temple to decide whether to invite BPS. On one hand we are all entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. On the other it has been notoriously difficult to confirm child abuse allegation in India.

A man may be innocent until proven guilty, but would you invite such a man to look after your children unless or until he is convicted? Hopefully not.

Taking into account that there are so many families and children in the Alachua community, I would like to ask Mother Mukhya if she would be willing to explain why she felt that it was respectful and considerate to invite another senior man who has allegations of child sexual abuse to speak at the temple?

How does this decision serve the best interest of the Alachua temple community?
How does it contribute to create an environment where children are safe? From what I can see it doesn't. On the contrary it only reinforces the culture of tolerance and minimization of child abuse that has been plaguing ISKCON for 50 years. The implications and optics of this decision do not look good for the Alachua community.
