Child abuse is "bad karma"?

DWIJAMANI DASA: There is a convenient philosophy floating around ISKCON that the children who suffer in ISKCON are experiencing the reaction to past karma and there's nothing anyone can do about it. I've even heard the more twisted version that it's better that they suffer at the hands of "devotees." The GBC very much supported the recent book "My Karma My Fault" http://news.iskcon.com/node/3259 

It has given them a perfect opportunity to perpetuate this false idea and to make it appear as though all the bad stuff is in the past and that ISKCON is now a safe place for children.

This philosophy is very much against the teaching of Srila Prabhupada.

Yes, by the laws of material nature, the living entity must experience the fruit of their past activity but engagement in devotional service creates a whole new dynamic. The living entity is then under the care of the Internal Potency. Their 'account' so to speak is being managed rather than just running automatically.
The whole purpose of ISKCON is to engage the living entity in devotional service, so freeing them from the repeated cycle of action and reaction. That's why we sing Sri Sri Gurv-asta every day.

So, if children in ISKCON are suffering "the reaction to past karma" that means that ISKCON is failing to engage them in devotional service and also failing to engage the abusers in devotional service. It's not just about keeping out the kiddie-fiddlers, it's about creating a karma reaction free zone. From both the material and spiritual point of view, ISKCON is failing to protect children.

Whangarei Prabhupadanuga's appeal to Devotees

Dear Devotees

Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

My husband and myself have started preaching in a small town in Whangarei, population of about 70 0000. By the mercy of Guru and Gauranga, we have started a small preaching centre and a Food for Life centre.

Currently we provide a free lunch to two schools one day a week and we have what is called a Community Cafe where people just give a donation for a meal, which is open 3 days a week for lunch.

We have a Sunday Program every Sunday and have started a Kirtan group.

If there are any devotees out there who would like to join us in the service of Srila Prabhupada, please contact us and we can discuss further.

Senior Russian Devotees Join Prabhupadanugas

Gaurangasundar Dasa: Sannyasa prabhu, a very senior Prabhupadanuga, has started the project of building a Prabhupada temple and farm community near St Petersburg, Russia for ISKCON INC.

Gaurangasundar Dasa: Jahnava devi Mataji had a very nice program at her nama hatta in London last Sunday. 9 new people who had purchased the orignal BHAGAVAT GITA AS IT IS from her attended the program.Few have started to chant after reading the GITA.They asked many questions, had nice prasadam, had nice kirtanas and all of them did 3 rounds of Japa. Mission of Prabhupada in USSR was started from Prabhupada's visit to Moscow in 1971, so, His first initiated disciple - Sriman Ananda Shanti prabhu appeared there. That hard time, up to 1989, all first Hare Krishna followers were persecuted and were in prison Bharadvaj prabhu was sent to prison ~10 times from 1979 to 1989.Bharadvaj prabhu was the secretary of Sriman Ananda Shanti prabhu.

N Carolina temple to vote over changed books

Tomorrow the Temple board [Temple Of The Holy Name, North Carolina] is going to vote on Jaiyagaurasundar's proposal to replace the edited, "unauthorized" BBT books with Srila Prabhupada's original eidtion books. Please read carefully the letter ["DON"T CHANGE ANYTHING!"] written by Pralada Nrsingar [Bhakta Phillip] on this subject prior to casting your vote. 

I sent you a copy yesterday. PLEASE carefully note the two conversations between SP and Radha Vallhabha [he was in charge of the printing of all of SP's books at that time], one in late February 1977 in Mayapura, and the other at the end of June 1977 in Vrndavan. THE LAST VERIFIABLE INSTRUCTIONS BY SP ON THIS MATTER!!!! 

When SP makes reference to "he", the RASCAL editor, he is talking about Jai Israel, aka Jai Advaita. And when SP is asking Radha Vallhabha " what are YOU going to do about it?", SP is addressing all of us! THREE times in this conversation SP stresses the "SERIOUSNESS" of making these 'changes', and he orders to "IMMEDIATELY" send a letter to STOP the changing of his books, and to ONLY print "The Original Books." 

And that order to "immediately" stop 'changing' SP's books was given by his Divine Grace over 35 years ago. Srila Prabhupada did not say, "let's do it slowly, I don't want to upset Jai Advaita [Madan Mohan Mohini]. Jai Israel was given a direct order by Srila Prabhupada not to change SP's books, the 'law books of the next 10,000 years, and he along with the entire GBC refused to obey Srila Prabhupada's direct and unequivocal order.

You are being given 3 'options' of voting on this issue tomorrow. Please let me remind you, Harakanta, when it comes to the order of the spiritual master, it is not a matter of "OPTIONS", it is only a question of,
"are we accepting SP as our lord and master, or not?" Since when are we giving "equal billing" to SP and the opinion of a non-devotee. By rejecting a direct order from the spiritual master the disciple [Jai Israel] is actually rejecting the spiritual master [ PARTICULAR when it comes to Srila Prabhupada's books, the very panacea to what ails all living entities in this material world], and such a 'cursed' individual is actually no longer a disciple [devotee]!

Harakanta, when casting your vote tomorrow, please do so with the mind-set that you are doing so as a representative of Srila Prabhupada [Prabhupada says, "what are YOU going to do about this], and also with the consciousness that Srila Prabhupada is personally present in this meeting. Lord Krsna gave Arjuna the choice, "You can either chose Me, or you can choose the army". Arjuna chose Lord Krsna over the army! Your choice tomorrow is between the instructions of the"GBC" and those of Srila Prabhupada! The choice should be most clear! your God brother, Padmagarbha dasa

America’s First Ever Hindu Congresswoman Will Take the Oath of Office Over the Bhagavad Gita

Last night, Hawaii not only elected Japan-born Mazie Hirono to be the first ever Asian-American woman elected to the Senate, they also elected Democrat Tulsi Gabbard as the first ever practicing Hindu to the US House of Representatives. Hawaii has been declared a Fox News Disaster Zone.

Thirty-one-year-old Gabbard is the daughter of two conservative Hawaii politicians and first ran for office at age 21. After her first term, she voluntarily served on a 12-month tour of duty with Hawaii's National Guard, and then became the first woman in the history of the Accelerated Officer Candidate School at the Alabama Military Academy to be designated a "distinguished honor graduate."

When she's sworn in this January, she'll take her oath of office over a Bhagavad Gita, a sacred text for followers of Hinduism, or Sanatana Dharma.. According to HuffPo, Gabbard's favorite verses include,

— "That which pervades the entire body you should know to be indestructible. No one is able to destroy that imperishable soul." (2:17)
— "The soul can never be cut into pieces by any weapon, nor can he be burned by fire, nor moistened by water, nor withered by the wind."(2.23)

Gabbard hopes that her faith will help her to assist the US in fostering a better relationship with India, where a large portion of the population is Hindu.

Other non-Christian adherent Congresspeople include Minnesota's Keith Ellison, who took his oath of office over the Qu'ran. But as far as I know, no elected officials have been sworn in with a special edition DVD version of Cecil B. Demille's The Ten Commandments, which is probably what I'd pick.
