Brief History of the 1987 GBC report

Radha Krishna Deities

[PADA: On May 22, 1986 Sulochana das was assassinated, and two days later the police arrested "Thomas Drescher" aka Tirtha das -- from New Vrndavana -- for that murder. According to the FBI, the next person on their "hit list" was yours truly, the PADA editor. This was verified by other police accounts, and this is why we were interviewed by the police and media afterwards, and we were interviewed recently by the "Investigation Discovery" channel -- since they checked the police accounts.

When Tirtha was arrested -- around May 24, 1986 -- the police discovered a hand written note that was found in his pants pocket -- with a description of my Ford pick up truck -- and my truck's licence plate number. So the GBC "hit men" were "doing surveillance" on me and my truck. I had ALREADY been writing my own protest papers at the Berkeley ISKCON temple before Sulochana left New Vrndavana to join with me in protesting these false gurus.

In 1985 Sulochana phoned me from Texas, just after he fled from New Vrndavana, saying he was going to join with me here in Berkeley. He stopped briefly in Los Angeles where he bribed a devotee to get a microfiche copy of "Srila Prabhupada's letters." We began to read these letters and realized there was a good reason the letters were being hidden, there was a lot of criticism of the GBC in those letters. Sulochana and me were in a Berkeley motel room when Ramesvara called him, and demanded that he return the microfiche or "become dead meat on a hook." That is what Sulochana told me Ramesvara said to him in any case. So we knew we were onto something with these letters, and we were. We bought two "microfiche readers" and began to read the letters, something no one else was doing at that time, because no one else had copies.

And so, Sulochana began writing his own protest papers. He said his "Guru Business" booklet would focus on "the letters" while my writings should focus on "quotes from the books." So we agreed to that plan, and thus he wrote "The Guru Business" while I was already writing and publishing the earlier version of "Our Living Guru" -- using mainly quotes from Srila Prabhupada's books.

Sulochana had no actual income and very little money, so I was donating to him items of food, clothes, supplies and money to print his publications. Oddly some people even claiming to be Prabhupadanugas are now saying that my having a "karmi job" was bogus, and I should not have had any income at all to share with Sulochana das. So this was another technique of the GBC's bogus guru program, to sort of "starve off" opponents by telling other people not to help the "dissenters" with funds and other assistance. Then again, we had to rely on "a karmi job" the whole time, since we really have not got much financial assistance from "the devotees."

I find it rather amazing that there are still some people complaining that I have had a job and was helping support Sulochana with some funds, that means -- there is still a lot of sympathy for the evil doers -- despite it is now well known they orchestrated the murder of Sulochana. They wanted Sulochana's program to be starved off then, and some still begrudge that we helped his program even up to the present day. Our critics also wanted my program to be silenced by lack of funds, and then the GBC gurus would have had hardly any resistance. So this means, these people still have sympathy for the GBC gurus, they wanted our protest to be squashed.

This "cutting off support" is almost like being "banished and shunned" by the Catholic Church in Medieval times. A shunned person could not buy, sell, trade, marry, etc. -- they would be cut off -- socially and economically. So this was making it very difficult for us to function at all. This is still pretty much the same program today, except now, the leaders starve off even their own people who are always begging for fifty cents to support -- Krishna type web sites, help sick devotees, buy new vehicles for preaching programs etc.

A few elite leaders have no problems getting massive amounts of funds, meanwhile just about everyone else has problems getting fifty cents worth of funds. So even many of their own sympathizers are having a hard time obtaining funds these days, and many of their temples are in ill-repair due to lack of funds. The only program that is fully funded is the GBC's lawsuit against the Prabhupadanugas, apparently costing around $20 million dollars -- to date. No shortage of funds to harass the Prabhupada devotees!

So, the general policy of the ISKCON leaders is more or less to starve off other programs, even programs that have people who are sympathetic to these leaders, and feed their main program -- keeping these gurus living in opulence, and to sue and harass those who do worship Srila Prabhupada. This "economically shunning and isolating" policy is making many folks believe that this whole guru imbroglio since 1977 is mainly about the control of ISKCON's money, assets and manpower, and has hardly anything to do with actual philosophical points.

So that is why the title of Sulochana's book is a great summary, "The Guru Business." A few elite people control all the money and assets, and everyone else is cut off economically. A business. Of course this is the same idea as Pol Pot, Stalin, Kim Jong Un of North Korea etc, -- a few elite people live like kings -- and everyone else gets little or nothing. A dictatorship.

Its mainly about economic control, a business, and dissenters are "bad for business" quite simply stated. Sulochana also envisioned some huge lawsuit to "de-fund the GBC gurus." He said, as long as they have money they will use that money to sue us, harass us, and maybe -- hire people to come and kill us. Of course, as soon as a lawsuit was started to de-fund the gurus -- and give some relief to many of the abused ex-youth -- some people protested the Windle Turley lawsuit.

These critics complain that "this lawsuit is all about money," --- right, the whole issue has been "all about money" from square one. And that is what Sulochana said, its a guru business, it is all about the control of money. These critics meanwhile have had no plan to do anything to fix anything either, thus they never started a counter lawsuit or anything else of substance. They just complain that de-funding these gurus and helping the children's suicide problem is a bad idea, but they have done nothing else to legally challenge the bad guys themselves, then -- or ever since. The main person who has legally challenged the bogus gurus is Madhu Pandit das, and if you want to know if de-funding the GBC would be a good idea, ask him.

One of the last things Sulochana said to me (on the sidewalk in front of Berkeley temple) was, "We need to split up, if we are together they will kill both of us at once. If we are separated, one of us will live -- to call the police and explain what happened and -- I feel I will probably never see you ever again." In short, he knew he was going to die. That is what he told me on May 20, 1986, and he was assassinated on May 22, 1986.

Dissenter's Vehicle Under Surveillance by New Vrndavana (similar to pic).

Meanwhile Hansadutta had decided in early 1986 to declare Kirtanananda as "the purest devotee on the planet" -- and to send all of the Berkeley devotees to New Vrndavana to "surrender to Srila Kirtanananda Bhaktipada." Thus -- some of Hansadutta's men were now part of the team to "chase us down." Sulochana was very alarmed at this new alliance, he said "Kirtanananda's cult is already very dangerous, and Hansadutta's is equally dangerous, and now that they are joining together and working against us, this is very dangerous for us. We might not survive this new alliance plan." He was right.

Meanwhile, the 1986 "reformers" like Ravindra Swarupa joined with Satsvarupa Das Goswami saying that Kirtanananda is the purest devotee and bona fide acharya on the planet and so on. So almost everyone of the leaders was converging together to support Kirtanananda. Even the independent maverick Hansadutta was backing Kirtanananda. That means the whole direction of usurped ISKCON was moving towards making Kirtanananda their de facto main messiah, over-lord acharya, greatest authority and really the "King of the movement." And for awhile, he was. At that time, Kirtanananda used to regularly sit in his big guru seat covered with the hands of fifty young boys, and while the other leaders apparently thought this was fine, a CBS news lady thought this was "pedophile heaven."

Yes, as a matter of fact, I am the King of ISKCON

And ultimately that means -- me and Sulochana were swimming upstream against all these combined forces to oppose Kirtanananda. Its really no wonder Sulochana was killed, when the whole movement was at that time saying that Kirtanananda is "like Jesus, Haridas Thakura and Prahlad" in their Janurary 1986 "Back to Godhead" magazine and so on. That means me and Sulochana were opposing no less than another Jesus, at least to members of the usurped program. Ramesvara's hit men later admitted to me that Ramsevara was asking them to help in the program to "get Sulochana."

So the penalty for opposing their bogus Jesus is perhaps, death, for "being an offender to the next Jesus." So that is how the GBC, the reformers like Ravindra Swarupa etc., and even Hansadutta were all painting me and Sulochana at the time. We were "offenders" to the next messiah Kirtanananda. And since we were offending the next Jesus -- if we were killed, that would be "doing service to God." That is how all these people tried to paint me and Sulochana at the time, Kirtanananda is another Jesus, we are offenders to the next Jesus. And thus in 1986 me and Sulochana were well aware they were painting us as "offenders to the next Jesus," in order to get us killed.

A short time after Sulochana was killed three goondas came to Berkeley from New Vrndavana and they were chasing me down the street, when an "un-marked" police car suddenly emerged from nowhere and saved me -- because now, the Berkeley police were doing surveillance on me. In other words even the police knew that Kirtanananda and Hansadutta were orchestrating criminal behaviors, and that people like me could be killed. One of the authorities said to me, its amazing that the Christian's fanatics go out and kill abortion doctors, but fanatics in your religion want to kill other members of their own religion, they want to murder their own brothers from their own religion.

So Krishna saved me from being attacked (and maybe killed?) by those goondas. Sulochana was right, these two made a dangerous combination. Sulochana also said that Satsvarupa was the main "behind the scenes master mind" of trying to get us killed, because SDG was saying Kirtanananda is a pure devotee and us protesters are demons. Sulochana said SDG is painting a bull's eye on us "dissenters" by his writings. In 1986 the GBC had their "Guru Reform" where their leaders (like Ravindra Swarupa) declared that Sulochana das was "offending a great devotee like Kirtanananda." So the weight of the "reformers" was now on our backs as well.

1986 Ford Police Intercepter Special / Cavalry Has Arrived. The Police told me: "You will have to call the Berkeley Police Station daily or we will put out an APB to find you."

Shortly after Sulochana's murder, the NEW VRNDAVANA farm was raided by the Federal Marshals and the entire ISKCON was under a lot of police and media scrutiny because their "gurus" were now being linked to the assassination of a dissenter. All of this was of course creating a panic in the bogus GBC's guru camp, and so they decided to make a series of "reforms" in 1987, to try to back themselves away from the scandal. The "1987 GBC report" reflects some of the changes they were forced to make to try to paper over their involvement in supporting Kirtanananada:]

The 11 gurus 1978

================================

Governing Body Commission Resolutions

March, 1987

1. Ramesvara is removed as member of GBC.

[PADA: Ramesvara had been caught a number of times "dating" his young female "gukuli student." A transcript of his visiting the Santa Monica mall with the female student started circulating. The real reason he left? We think its because -- Sulochana had been murdered right on his temple's doorstep in Los Angeles. And some of his temple goondas later on told PADA they were part of the team to go after Sulochana, and so the GBC were perhaps worried about their leaders being implicated in this murder.

Two of the Ramesvara "enforcers" were later taken to court for being "at the scene" of the murder, but the FBI had given them immunity if they would testify against New Vrndavana, so they were never charged. One of the Los Angeles ex-enforcers later became a good friend of ours and he apologized for helping in the Sulochana murder.

He said Ramesvara was orchestrating the whole program of "getting Sulochana," and that Ramesvara said "Sulochana needs to move on to another body." A devotee named Ramachandra das also became our friend later and he told us -- Ramesvara was preparing a SWAT team to "get rid of Sulochana." Ramachandra also told us Ramesvara's "enforcers" caused all kinds of terror to the local dissenters in Los Angeles.

We were told the goonda squad would beat on people's doors at 2 am with bats to wake the residents up, even if they had babies it did not matter, these people were given a message to "get out of town." People's cars were also vandalized, tires slashed and so on. Bhakta Jim told us his brake lines had been cut and so on and so forth

In any case, Ramesvara was not removed for helping the anti-Sulochana process, nor for "dating" his female student. He was removed for other technical details. Our friends saw Ramesvara leaving Los Angeles wearing cowboy boots, a cowboy hat, driving away in his new station wagon filled to the brim with a bunch of aluminum suitcases -- full of who knows what.

Then he became a sham real estate agent in New York City. So this was amazing really, the GBC started a program of "removing the acharyas." The GBC / gurus still keep saying they only "follow the tradition," i.e. the acharyas sometimes start dating their young female disciples, start going to Star Wars movies, start buying mini-skirts at the Santa Monica mall for their "dates." And their goondas are implicated in assassinating dissenters. Really? This is the lila of the acharyas?]

2. Bhagavan’s resignation is accepted by GBC.

[PADA: Bhagavan's lifestyle was very opulent, like a king. He was living in five star hotels, riding in a big BMW car, while the rest of the devotees were freezing and taking cold showers. He was called "The Sun King" because he allegedly liked to go to the French Riviera and hang out on the beach.

According to some reports, he also had a problem of "association with a woman." Bhagavan eventually cleaned out the safe and took all the temple money on his way out the door when he "blooped." The result was -- there was then a big emergency when his zone went bankrupt. Bhagavan then become part of the Gaudiya Matha / Narayana Maharaja group.

NOTICE: Another GBC guru scam was being developed, the guru "resigns." The messiah from heaven cleaned out the safe and resigned. Basically, what Harikesha did.]

3. Bhavananda is removed as member of GBC.

[PADA: Resigned? Just after he had just been "reinstated" in 1986 despite many reports of homosexual liasons. This was actually a good sign. We dissenters had applied a lot of pressure on the fact that Bhavananda was still a guru despite so many reports of wrong doing, and our pressure was finally working, the GBC was forced to remove him.

Unfortunately, they later on sneaked Bhavananda back in again to be a sort of de facto assistant manager in Mayapura at the behest of Jayapataka. Many people then began to ask -- why Jayapataka surrounds himself with various gays and molesters, and he has allowed them to be prominent in Mayapura. Jayapataka later on had a severe stroke, and some people said this is the result of his offense of keeping all these dubious people in Mayapura.]

4. Whereas Jagajivana Goswami has decided that he can better serve Srila Prabhupada’s movement in a different capacity and has tendered his resignation from GBC body, the GBC accepts his resignation and gives him their blessings for his future preaching career.

[PADA: Yep, some people just walked away from the train wreck hoping they would not be implicated in this criminal circus.]

5. Pancadravida is hereby expelled from ISKCON.

[PADA: Why? Because he decided to run off to the Sridhara Maharaja camp. First of all, the GBC gurus said in 1978 that Sridhara Maharaja is the shiksha guru of ISKCON, and anyone who fails to accept him as their shiksha guru -- has to leave ISKCON. Then, in 1982 the GBC's gurus did a complete circle, and they said Sridhara Maharaja is a deviant and anyone who accepts him has to leave ISKCON. This created the Sridhara Maharaja spin off groups such as Tripurari swami, Dheera Krishna swami, and Jayatirtha etc. Even Hansadutta had been "consulting with Sridhara Maharaja" up to 1985.

As far as we know, Pancadravidha is still living at the Sridhara Maharaja temple in Santa Cruz California. The good news is that Pancadravida realized that the GBC guru process is bogus. The bad news is, he still thinks the people who supported the GBC gurus like Sridhara Mahraja, are bona fide.

NOTICE: The GBC declared Sridhara Maharaja to be "the purest devotee on the planet" in 1979, then in 1982 they said, ooops, nope he is a deviant. They spawned their own competition to ISKCON. WORSE!
Even as of today, people like Banu swami are citing that ISKCON needs to do things "as the Gaudiya Samhiti has done." ok the GBC is still following the Gaudiya Matha and their "appointed guru" ideas.]

6. Sundararupa Swami’s request for leave of absence from GBC was rejected by the GBC body. He no longer has a GBC position.

7. Brahmananda is removed from the GBC.

[PADA: Brahmananda was originally a big supporter of the GBC gurus, but as he finally began to protest their behaviors, they decided to get rid of him. When Brahmananda saw us in Los Angeles he said, "the only reason they do not kill you is that the FBI will then shut their whole thing down." Brahmananda  / Gargamuni also sent me stories from time to time about -- for example -- their catching Gunagrahi swami watching porno movies, about Hrdayananda inviting young women in his personal house, and so on and so forth. He really knows what is going on but has not been able to come out and express that openly, but he is glad at least some of us did protest.]

8. a) Whereas Kirtanananda Swami, by his words and deeds has systematically obscured and minimized His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada’s pre-eminent position as the Founder-Acarya of ISKCON;

[PADA: That is what PADA said in 1978, that Kirtanananda is trying to eclipse the position of acharya. The GBC gurus finally started to catch up to what we were saying in 1987.]

b) Whereas Kirtanananda Swami in word and deed rejects the Governing Body Commission as the ultimate managing authority in ISKCON, and by so doing is dismantling Srila Prabhupada’s vision of unity;

[PADA: Except that Kirtanananda was correct, a GBC body does not "manage" the acharyas. KS said, since the GBC party has ALREADY recognized him as the acharya of ISKCON, therefore he does not require any guidance from a managerial body. That is actually correct siddhanta, the acharya is beyond the advice of a managerial body.]

c) Whereas Kirtanananda Swami is, in defiance of GBC policy and over the GBC’s protest, establishing in North America, India, and Malaysia, temples and institutions controlled by himself alone, thus creating a movement separate from ISKCON;

[PADA: Kirtanananda was already making temples under his own registered charities, not ISKCON, and Radhanath is doing the same thing, and so are many others. We have some people saying "PADA is against the golden body of ISKCON" and that is fine except, most of former ISKCON is now operating under the official names of other charities and institutions. ISKCON is being dismantled and pieced off into independent guru franchises. The golden body is being broken up into guru cults, which is also what happened to the Gaudiya Matha, various bogus gurus seized controls over properties.]

d) Whereas in word and deed, Kirtanananda Swami, while acting independently of ISKCON authority, systematically misrepresents ISKCON to the public, the media, and the government, and thereby brings ISKCON into jeopardy;

[PADA: Except that when we warned the GBC of these things all along, especially after the 1980 Syracuse fraud lawsuit against ISKCON, they said we were offensive to complain about Kirtanananda and his illegal enterprises. When Sulochana pointed to the many deviations of New Vrndavana he was censured and excommunicated in the 1986 GBC meeting. A few months later, the GBC suddenly agreed with Sulochana?]

e) Whereas, as indicated by GBC investigations, numerous, serious illegal acts have occurred within his jurisdiction;

[PADA: But they already knew that in 1980 when they lost the Syracuse Federal Fraud case, when the New Vrndavana drug mules were arrested, etc.?]

The ISKCON GBC hereby expels Kirtanananda Swami from ISKCON and thereby removes all his rights and responsibilities related to ISKCON. The ISKCON GBC further issues a notice of non-participation forbidding Kirtanananda Swami to participate in the functions of ISKCON.

[PADA: Except that now some of the GBC's biggest gurus (like Radhanath swami) have buried Kirtanananda in a samadhi in Vrndavana. So if one is minimizing the acharya, and is creating a criminal empire, one is worthy of being buried as a saint?

Bhakta das has also expressed his support for Radhanath, and now the Sanat / Mukunda / Prahald / Pancali team are glorifying the Bhakta das program. OK this is the program of kissing the boots of the people who are burying dead criminals and deviants in the holy dham. On the one hand, the Bhakta das / Sanat / Mukunda / Prahlad / Pancali people sometimes agrees with us, and they say PADA is correct, we should protest the deviant guru program, we should only serve the pure devotees like Jesus.

Then they turn around and say no, we should serve Satan instead, and work with Bhakta das to promote the molester / poisoner guru program, which buries the worst offenders in the holy dham. Which is why the Bible says, you cannot serve two masters. You cannot serve Jesus and Satan at the same time, that is not how it works. Of course this is the result of them listening to GBC propaganda, they think that our protest is wrong and we need to worship the palanquin carriers of Kirtananda.

At the same time they know there is considerable substance to our complaints. They are confused due to hearing from the wrong sources, and now Bhakta das is promoting all kinds of New World Order / Jewish bankers propaganda and so on, which fits right into the Illuminati program of some of these folks. In any case, me and Sulochana went after these leaders, we did not care if they had the Illuminati or Satan himself behind them, we decided we were going to take them down. And in 1987, a lot of their empire collapsed because, we did take a huge chunk of their empire down, and helped forge an alliance to promote the right thing, worship of Srila Prabhupada, which is expanding now as we speak.]

9. The GBC approves the text of a letter to all ISKCON devotees regarding the resolution No. 8. above. After two days of Istagoshti held amongst all Srila Prabhupada disciples and chaired by Atreya Rsi, the GBC body met in the presence of all Godbrothers and passed the following resolutions.

[PADA: Atreya Rsi told me in 1986 that he can not try to remove Bhavanananda as a guru (despite reports of homsexual affairs) because Jayapataka has many vicious goonda disciples in Mayapura who will "beat you up with sticks."]

10. Resolved that all God brothers may participate in all discussions.

[PADA: Really? When were the God brothers consulted?]

11. Only GBC men may give proposals, amendments, and finally vote on these proposals.

12. Resolved that the GBC authorize a committee to execute the following mandate:

a) To interview the GBC men and others with relevant information, discuss, and then to express a simple majority vote of confidence or no confidence in the 17 existing GBC members; notes on all members will be accompanied by a voting count and a specific written list of points of rectification.

[PADA: This is another problem, the GBC are now messiah class gurus, and yet we need to have a vote to see if we have any confidence in them or not.]

b) To propose 10 additional candidates for GBC positions in whom the committee feels best exemplify the qualities of GBC members as per Prabhupada’s instructions, and in whom the committee has full confidence, to work under as GBC members.

[PADA: They were saying that they needed new members because they were losing so many members. and they have never recovered, the GBC program is getting smaller and they are not able to replace all the people who leave. "The rats are leaving the ship."]

c) To propose specific checks and balances to insure the integrity and purity of the GBC membership.

13. The committee of Godbrothers should, in the presence of all GBC and guests, evaluate GBC men in terms of their gunas and karma as given by Srila Prabhupada. Special attention to be given to: a) Sadhana, b) Character, c) Ability to enthuse preaching, d) Ability to give and take sadhu sangha, e) Vijnana or practical understanding as applicable to management.

[PADA: Rather amazing really, after issuing guru certificates to many "gurus," the GBC now wanted to "evaluate" people to see if they were even following the basic sadhana practices, whether they had any enthusiasm to preach. whether they were in the sangha of devotees, and so on.]

14. That each GBC member be evaluated based on qualities mentioned by Srila Prabhupada in his letters and qualities of Vaisnavas as included in Srila Prabhupada’s books and letters.

[PADA: Fine except, they had just had Sulochana assassinated for publishing the letters?]

15. That the committee first praise the good qualities of each Vaisnava before entering the discussion on weaknesses.

[PADA: The GBC has to praise the people who are deviating before censuring them? Is this like New Age "group hugs" or what?]

16. That the committee propose fifteen or more names, amongst whom the GBC may elect ten (10) or more.

17. The members will be constituted of the committee elected by the five-man North American GBC committee. Other than those present (forty- two), additional will be added by the vote of the assembled body of Godbrothers. The additional eight (8) men elected to the committee are: a) Sri Ram prabhu, b) Harivilas prabhu, c) Vegavan prabhu, d) Vrikodara prabhu, e) Vishwambar Goswami, f) Somaka Goswami,
g) Ajamila prabhu, h) Abhay Charan Swami.

[PADA: Can anyone explain what a guru rectification committee does in the first place?]

18. That the committee convene immediately and meet for the next two days to make recommendations as to steps for rectification and improvements for each of the GBC members on a case by case basis.

19. Satsavarupa Maharaj's resignation is accepted effective at the end of the Mayapur meeting 1987.

[PADA: Satsvarupa resigned, but all of his whacky-job writings are still being sold all over ISKCON even today.]

20. Atreya Rsi will be given an (up to) three-year leave of absence from GBC and Ministry of Finance positions, effective at the end of 1987 meetings when new GBC assignments are completed.

[PADA: Atreya bailed out, he told me these people are dangerous and he cannot be connected to them anymore.]

21. That all new GBC members admitted during the 1987 General Meeting shall be acting GBC members with full voting rights for one year. Each new GBC member thus admitted shall be subject to reconsideration by two- thirds vote at the 1988 General Meeting. If the requisite two-thirds favorable vote is received he shall be shall be re-appointed for a further one-year term as acting GBC member with full voting rights and shall be eligible for admission as a full GBC member at the 1989 General Meeting.

[PADA: Gurus vote for proposals, really, I thought the guru already knew the truth and he did not have to place that up for a vote.]

22. That Guru Gauranga dasa is approved as an acting GBC member with full voting rights and shall be eligible for confirmation as a full GBC member at the 1988 General Meeting.

23. That the present GBC body immediately select five (5) new members.

24. Harivilas to travel to Africa to investigate the situation in that continent and report to all GBC in that regard. Harivilas is to attempt to recruit Giriraj Swami to go with him on this trip.

25. The temple President’s resolution to have Harivilas Prabhu off the GBC is overruled. Harivilas Prabhu is appointed Secretary.

26. Any qualified and needed GBC men be appointed this year.

27. The following new GBC men were elected: a) Ravindra Swarup Das, b) Ganapati Swami, c) Agrani Swami, d) Niranjana Swami, e) Harivilas Das.

28. The following new GBC men were elected: a) Kavicandra Maharaj, b) Yasomatinandana prabhu, c) Guru Prasad Maharaja, d) Bhaktibhusana Maharaj, e) Danavir prabhu, f) Sivaram Maharaj, g) Bhakti Caru Maharaj

29. The following new GBC men were elected: a) GourGovinda Maharaj, b) Vrkodar Prabhu, c) Prithu Prabhu

[PADA: In 1988 Gaura govinda maharaja wrote a paper for the GBC about "what to do when you find out your guru is a demon." It does not explain why GGM supported the same group that is making demons into gurus?]

30. That with Bhaktitirtha Maharaja’s approval, the GBC will request Visvambhar Maharaj to preach in French-speaking Africa for the coming year.

[PADA: Bhaktitirtha was lecturing about "The Lost continent of Mu," and many other cracker pot things. But he was a Kirtanananda loyalist, so they kept him on.]

31. That the GBC rule stating that a sannyasi would hold his danda for ten years is superseded by a quote from CC. Madhya-lila, Ch.5 142-143: “However, when one is elevated to the status of hamsa or paramahamsa, after touring and preaching the bhakti cult, he must give up the sannyasa staff.”

32. Resolved that “when a person becomes a member of ISKCON or assumes an office within ISKCON, he does so upon the condition of submission to the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of ISKCON; and however much he may be dissatisfied with the exercise of that jurisdiction, he shall refrain from invoking the supervisory power of a civil court but shall seek redress of any grievance(s) through the ISKCON judicial
process. Otherwise, he may be removed from office and/or his membership in ISKCON terminated,” be referred to the Minister of Legal Affairs. (Provisional Order)

[PADA: Right, once you find out you are swimming with crooks, you cannot go to court.]

33. All resolutions be categorized as a rule of order law, or provisional order at the time of passing. (Rule of Order)

34. That as per Ambarisa Prabhu’s request, the GBC body gives its unanimous blessings to him to give at least 50% of the proceeds from the sale of the Manhattan property for the establishment of a cultural center in Manhattan, under the direction of the local ISKCON authorities and thereafter that he concentrate his energy on establishing the large cultural project envisioned by Srila Prabhupada for
Washington D.C. (P/O)

35. That every GBC man give $100 to cover the annual GBC executive budget of $3,000. (P/O)

36. That a “GBC Resolutions Revision Committee,” consisting of Gurugauranga Prabhu, Kavichandra Swami, Danavir Prabhu, Rabindra Swarupa Prabhu, and Jayapataka Maharaja be formed to propose a revision of the GBC Resolutions (to be adopted by a mail vote before the 1988 General Meeting). (P/O)

[PADA: Wait a minute, the GBC makes "resolutions" from the statements of their pure devotee gurus, then they have to go back and revise these statements?]

37. That the amount of time a GBC member arrives late to meetings be calculated and that he be penalized in equal loss of voting rights in increments of three-hour sessions in the following year’s annual meeting. (Vote: 12 in favor, 6 against, 3 abstentions). The executive officers will be penalized twice as much as non-executive members. (R/O)

[PADA: Amazing really, 21 voters in total. That means 21 people were running ISKCON into the ground.]

38. That the GBC recommend that Srila Prabhupada be glorified in kirtan only by the words, “Jaya Prabhupada” and not “Jaya Jagat Guru Srila Prabhupada” or “Jaya Gurudeva.” (Law of ISKCON)

[PADA: OK, but they were being worshiped as Jagat gurus themselves, and many of them still are? ys pd]

Protester of Bogus Gurus Assassinated (India)

[PADA: It is significant that a person exposing false gurus was assassinated. Seems to be a pattern here. ys pd]

Hare Rama,

please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Anti-black magic activist Dabholkar killing who protested against bogus Gurus: Two held:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-25278729

Senior Prabhupadanuga Urdvargha Dasa from Germany was also shot by a few criminals with a shotgun send by GBCs to kill him in a similar way. He personally told me people like Harikesh were possessed by ghosts and they had to do a "Ghostbust Kirtan" on him in the middle of the night and that Harikesh was using black magic to hypnotize him and change his mind from leaving Germany to go back to serve Srila Prabhupada in India.

Former Guru Dasanudasa / David Bruce Hughes also did black magic on all his ex disciples, after they rejected and exposed him. So most of these bogus Gurus are into left hand tantra/ black arts.

As Srila Prabhupada confirms: ""Pisaca worship is called "black arts" or "black magic." There are many men who practice this black art, and they think that it is spiritualism, but such activities are completely materialistic. "

[Bhagavad-gita 9:25 http://www.harekrsna.com/philosophy/associates/demons/classes/bhutas.htm]

So we might think that this verse may refer to some crazy tantrics living on a graveyard and chanting strange Bija Mantras. But the truth is that these left hand tantrics are right there posing as pure devotees/Vaishnava Acharyas or Vaishnava Brahmins [like Patita Pavana Dasa (ACBSP) and his wife (Suhotra Swami)]. So context gives meaning to anything. If you take this statement of Srila Prabhupada in the right context, of black magicians posing as Brahmins or even Vaishnava Acharyas, it will give you a real understanding of the issue.

Ignorance of the problem is the root cause many devotees(me included) went to astrologers(even some so called Prabhupada disciples) who then also did magic and sold their Kavacha Amulets(silver capsule containing a Yantra worn around the neck) or recommended strange Yantras to put on your altar.

These Kavachas/silver capsules worn by so many Vaishnavas around their neck, are IN NO WAY AUTHORIZED BY SRILA PRABHUPADA! I am not aware of any picture where Srila Prabhupada is wearing this, yet after 1977 this was introduced and ignorant newcomers(like me) were mislead to waste money on these things by ISKCON "Brahmins". This is why I am writing this mail and raise concern for this dangerous issue.

Please watch these videos and get educated about the dangers of black magic:

The ruqya files(Islamic exorcists ) youtube channel:

It is also highly recommended to add daily Narasimha worship(Narasimha Pranama http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFgeASW3po4 (Preview) and Narasimha Kavacha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAWqvo-_4j0) to your Sadhana, because these black magicians are posing as Vaishnava Brahmins, Astrologers or even Gurus!

Madhu Pandit Das Replies to the GBC EC Letter

http://www.iskcontimes.org/sri-madhu-pandit-dasa-s-official-reply-to-ec

Sri Madhu Pandit Dasa’s official reply to EC

By:  Madhu Pandit Dasa, Bangalore.

Dear Tamohara prabhu, Anuttama prabhu, and Praghosa prabhu,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

We beg to acknowledge your letter dated 27th Oct 2013 addressed to three of us. I had immediately replied to your above letter on 28th October stating that we will respond to it soon.  I noticed several discrepancies vis-a-vis what transpired in the meeting as you have stated. There were many things in the your letter  which did not represent  accurately and completely what transpired in our discussion in Chennai with HH Jayapataka Swami, HH Bhanu Swami and Dayaram Das.

Probably it is due to miscommunication and partial communication from the source where you got the information (from one of the bureau members). It is understandable considering that it is second hand information and those who presented it also probably wanted to dilute it hoping against hope  for some serious reforms in ISKCON and was shooting off our shoulders to achieve the same.

Meantime we see that one of your members have posted that letter in the Sampradaya Sun with a political twist and apparent motive to disturb many devotees all over the world who look upon ISKCON Bangalore as a panacea to all the guru issues in the rest of the movement. This was most unexpected move and we consider that these persons are misusing a genuine discussion held with some Bureau member to bring Srila Prabhupada to his original spiritual position in ISKCON for political mileage.

The most inaccurate statement in your letter is your statement that we have evolved our understanding and moved away from the rtvik position. There is no question of us evolving our ‘understanding’ or position since our stand on initiation is not based on any philosophical interpretation but simply following faithfully the written directive of Srila Prabhupada on initiation with full faith in it that it ought to be philosophically sound if Srila Prabhupada set it up. Unless, we are shown authentically that Srila Prabhupada superseded that directive, we would continue with that understanding.

Two things that came out during discussion from HH Bhanu Swami were

1. As far as Harinam initiation is concerned there is no question of it being a posthumous initiation for reasons given by him below.

2. Srila Prabhupada introduced Harinama Diksha for the first time in the Goudiya line as it was not there in Goudiya Mutt. There is only one initiation there.

These two points mentioned by HH Bhanu Swami prompted me to pose a challenge to the Bureau and GBC to come up with reform wherein for entire ISKCON Srila Prabhupada will be accepted as the only giver of Holy Name during 1st initiation and the devotee getting initiated would accept him as the primary guru in his life to whom he would surrender.

Please take on record the following narration as to what transpired in the discussion as narrated below and please do not take anything stated in your letter as voicing our stand unless it is confirmed in the narration below.

Meeting held on 24th August 2013.

On the request from Muralishyam Dasa brahmacari of ISKCON Mumbai we consented to meet on 24th August as he was repeatedly requesting us to meet once HH Jayapataka Swami to hear how Bureau and GBC are working in different ways to bring Srila Prabhupada in the centre. We made it very clear that we will not be giving any new proposal than what we have given so far to the Bureau till then, all of which received a negative response from the GBC. He said that Doyaram Prabhu was planning to propose some changes to the GBC during the upcoming Bureau and GBC meeting in Oct 2013.

The meeting was held in Chennai Iskcon temple and HH Jayapataka Swami. HH Bhanu Swami and Doyaram Prabhu represented Mumbai and myself, Chanchalapathi Dasa and Jai Chaitanya Dasa from our side.  HH Bhanu Maharaja started with a presentation on different components of Diksha, explaining how Harinama diksha or 1st initiation was not considered Diksha and Diksha usually referred to the 2nd initiation which was primarily meant for deity worship.

He also explained how our spiritual progress fully depended on chanting the Hare Krishna maha mantra rather than the Gayathri mantra on which the devotees spend a few minutes of day to chant three times but we spend hours chanting and spreading the Hare Krishna Mahamantra and serving the Mahamantra.  And liberation is the combined result, acquiring spiritual knowledge from Srila Prabhupada and sadhu, Sastra, of chanting Hare Krishna mantra, deity worship etc. He also made the point that the Harinam diksha or first initiation was not part of diksha system in Goudiya mutt tradition and that Srila Prabhupada introduced this for the first time in ISKCON moving away from tradition for purposes best known to him as the Founder-Acharya of the movement.

At the end of the presentation and talk by Bhanu Swami, if ISKCON really wanted to bring Srila Prabhupada in the centre, I posed a challenge of a possible reform in ISKCON to the bureau and the GBC. It was, if Harinam initiation is not a regular Diksha as was explained by Bhanu Swami, then the question of posthumous diksha does not arise in the first initiation.

Then why doesn’t ISKCON GBC bring out a position paper that Srila Prabhupada as the giver of the Holy name to all candidates in this movement at the 1st initiation ceremony and recognise him as his spiritual master and facilitate instilling the relationship of surrendering their soul to Srila Prabhupada, in the minds and hearts of every initiated candidate.  Srila Prabhupada should be the one personality for everyone to place their full faith which is of the quality as good as ones faith in Krishna as required by the famous quote for a self-realization “Yasya deva para bhaktir, yatha deve tatha gurau, tasyaiva kathitha hyartha, prakashante mahatmanah,”

To this Bhanu swami replied that that Bhaktivinod Thakur does talk about Nama Guru in Harinama Cintamani. And agreed that such an initiation cannot be considered posthumous initiation as Srila Prabhupada never gave the maha-mantra into the candidate’s ears like giving he gave Gayathri mantra during the 1st initiation ceremony and that Harinam works even without formal diksha.  He said philosophically the GBC should have no problem in such a proposal as per his opinion though he was not sure whether GBC would accept it or not.

I reiterated that if this is accepted this will seal the fact in the mind of the candidates that Srila Prabhupada is the primary Guru or Harinama guru playing the most important part in their spiritual life by delivering Holy name from disciplic succession and taking them back to Godhead. I explained that bringing Srila Prabhupada in the centre as Founder-Acharya is best achieved by bringing Srila Prabhupada in the centre of the heart of every initiated person as his/her first and primary guru during 1st initiation.

There is no better way to bring Srila Prabhupada in the centre in one single stroke of reform in ISKCON without all the cosmetic changes that GBC has made so far to put Srila Prabhupada in the centre. All candidates for 1st initiation will be very well informed institutionally on the janme janme prabhu sei position of Srila Prabhupada in their lives and the need to take his eternal shelter if they want to be part of ISKCON. Also Vyasa puja and guru puja in Iskcon should only be for Srila Prabhupada. Also there should no choosing of the Harinama guru or officiating acarya for 1st/ Prabhupada initiation.  Dayaram Prabhu interjected that it would be hard for GBC to accept this part of candidates not choosing the initiator.

I continued that “the current initiators of the institution giving out such 1st initiation wherein Srila Prabhupada delivers them the Holy Name from disciplic succession can be called Officiating Acharya, the term unambiguously used by Srila Prabhupada when specifically asked about future initiations.” Any of the GBC approved gurus can give mala and name on behalf of Srila Prabhupada as officiating Acarya and conduct the first initiation where Srila Prabhupada is offered to them by the institution as their Primary guru and specifically Nama guru. To this Jayapataka Swami said the GBC would not accept the terminology of Officiating Acharya.

I further expressed how Srila Prabhupada taught us a kind of surrender to guru that was total surrender as required by our philosophy. But today's initiation system of ISKCON institutionally incorporates and encourages implicitly or sometime explicitly a system where the innocent new devotees follow the system and offer this kind of surrender to persons other than Srila Prabhupada as their guru just as all the pre-1977 initiated disciples offered their surrender to Srila Prabhupada.  And when the guru falls down, which has happened so many times and will continue to happen, ISKCON as an institution is being part of a ‘deception’ that occurs . There can be no solution for this potential betrayal of faith unless you instruct the person getting initiated specifically that one should not place that kind of faith in your guru as you place in Srila Prabhupada. And if you tell them not to place their 100% faith in the infallibility of your guru, then you are depriving an opportunity to an ISKCON member to practice Bhakti with strong guru bhakti as required by our siddhanta , as taught to us by Srila Prabhupada as per the quote “ Yasya deva para bhaktir...”.

Then Dayaram Prabhu supported this point and said that ISKCON should seriously look into this proposal of Srila Prabhupada being the Harinama guru of everyone not because of I am proposing this but independently as the duty of GBC to bring Srila Prabhupada into the heart of all initiated devotees to avoid this kind of embarrassing situation for ISKCON when gurus fall down and where ISKCON is definitely taking part in misleading of devotees whose gurus end up falling down. He also added that if at all faith in one person can be made compulsory or legislated, that is the faith in Srila Prabhupada.

I said if the GBC can come this far with a clear position paper on 1st initiation as discussed above then I believe that it is the most authentic way of placing Srila Prabhupada in the centre . Otherwise it is never the same ISKCON that Srila Prabhupada left behind with us in 1977. If the GBC does bring out such a conclusive position then  I am personally willing to seriously discuss within  our group temple presidents (21 of us )  and the elected GBC of Bangalore Group of temples ( 9 of us)  whether they are willing to consider the Gayathri mantra during 2nd  initiation for deity worship to be accepted to given by one of the ISKCON officiating acarya into the ear of the prospective disciple as there is one precedent where Srila Prabhupada directed  one of his disciples to chant Gayathri mantra into the ears of a prospective disciples during second initiation.

Then the issue of over emphasising diksha over siksha was brought up by Jayapataka Swami as the real reason for confusion on the guru issue. He said that the persons giving 2nd initiation can be called monitor gurus, the term used by Srila Prabhupada in “Easy journey to other planets”. I said when they themselves state  that there is over stress on the word ‘diksha’ in ISKCON as they refer to the present gurus then they should set it right by using a different terminology like monitor gurus and stop using diksha guru for the present gurus. Bhanu Swami suggested that they be called pancharatrik gurus.

I said terminology of these gurus who give Gayathri initiation can be a matter of discussion between us once the GBC is willing first to take the big step of recognizing Prabhupada’s spiritual position in the hearts of every initiated devotee as their primary guru who gives them the Holy Name during first initiation. Today the word ‘diksha’ means different connotations to different people in ISKCON starting from nomenclature of one time ceremony to an understanding that it is an on-going process of receiving transcendental knowledge from the guru and annihilation of sinful reactions.

Dayaram Prabhu asked me if I can give this proposal in writing. I said we have given many proposals in writing in the past with no result and this is something that has to originate from one of them and we would scrutinize whether we have understood each other on what was discussed respond to it... I also added that this is my impromptu personal inspiration offered for bringing about a drastic change in ISKCON where the first initiation is a rtvik initiation as it is not a posthumous diksha according to HH Bhanu Swami and not the opinion of the rest of the group. Then they said GBC is against using the word rtvik initiation though all of them understood that what I proposed is a Harinam initiation or first initiation being given by Srila Prabhupada.

I said that I can try to convince everyone in our group on second initiation being given  into the ears from  persons authorized by GBC  if a big change can come for entire Iskcon where 1st initiation is from Srila Prabhupada considering  it a big leap to put back spiritually ISKCON to the situation it was pre-1977. I was also added that some members among current Bangalore group will also be authorized by GBC for this to do this function of initiation specifically amongst us.

HH Jayapataka Swami said that change in ISKCON is a very slow process it can happen only little at a time and felt that my proposal to them to bring Srila Prabhupada really in the centre by making Srila Prabhupada as the direct giver of first initiation through officiating acaryas may not be accepted by the GBC in this form according to him. He said that he was not very much convinced whether 1st and 2nd initiation can be separated as two initiations as Bhanu Swami presented. He said he is attempting various means like adding some more oaths during first initiation or creating some ashraya ceremony before 1st initiation to impress the pre-eminent position of Srila Prabhupada in the life of all devotees.

I responded that we will wait till then and keep going our way and resume dialogues in future, whenever that be, when the ISKCON has changed enough to consider that everyone can have Srila Prabhupada as his primary guru to whom they surrender their life and soul to him and receive Holy Name directly from him and always think as his Harinama guru and not merely preeminent-siksha guru. Then there is some hope of coming together subject to discussing other things.

HH Jayapataka swami said that he was nowadays always trying to project Srila Prabhupada in the centre at every opportunity.  He, in very clear terms, informed that he has made significant change in his mind on the permissibility of direct relationship that a new initiate can have with Srila Prabhupada and how he was fully supporting this fact currently. (Earlier in 1999 when the dispute began with Bangalore devotees, he denied that his disciples can have direct relationship with Srila Prabhupada).  Most significantly he did apologize on that day for his previously held hard core Guru stand by not supporting direct connection with Srila Prabhupada for his disciples. Reciprocating the same, just before parting , Chanchalapathi Prabhu, Jai Chaitanya Prabhu and myself  offered our apologies to HH Jayapataka Swami for any offenses that have been committed personally to him in the process of our continued determination to follow what we think and believe was Srila Prabhupada’s directive on initiation.

The half day meeting ended with the conclusion that Bhanu Swami will make a presentation to the GBC in these lines for their consideration in the GBC meeting to be held in Mumbai in Oct.
End

After that we have received your letter under reply which needed this clarification to give you the complete and accurate picture as narrated above.

Again we repeat that there is no question of evolving into any new understanding for us. The essential challenge of reform posed before the GBC is whether ISKCON GBC would accept first initiation as being given by Srila Prabhupada to move forward with further discussions.  I considered such a move by GBC a major reform considering the following quote of Srila Prabhupada:

“Why do you believe in rumours, that first initiation is not so important as second? I have already said that it is equally important, but you say rumour. Actually first initiation is more important. You can go without second initiation; if the first initiation is executed very thoroughly that is sufficient. First initiation stands strong. The spiritual master accepts the disciple’s sinful reactions upon giving first initiation. The Vedic system was to give the sacred thread at the first initiation. We are following Pancaratriki. Vedic initiation was given to a person born to a brahmana. That is not possible in this age. Therefore he has to be prepared by Hari Nam initiation and then second initiation. He is given a chance. Therefore others protest that I am giving initiation: He is not born of a brahmana, how can he be initiated?”

Considering the fact that some persons connected to the bureau are now politicizing this genuine efforts to bring some considerable changes in ISKCON to re-establish Srila Prabhupada’s spiritual position and role in ISKCON by leaking out your  letter to Sampradaya Sun with twisted title to it , we have decided that henceforth we shall deal only directly with the GBC EC on these matters and continue to discuss further if the GBC wishes to move in this direction at all, now that you know exactly where we stand on the understanding on the guru issue.

It is very ecstatic to hear how Srila Prabhupada created his Krsna — The Supreme Personality of Godhead.

We have redone Srila Prabhupada’s Krsna Book Dictation tapes and the result is very good compared to the previous tapes.

These are 128 kb/sec MP3 files compared to the previous 24 kb/sec files and we have used the best digital noise reduction technologies available and achieved great improvements.
Of course the original tapes Srila Prabhupada made on a Dictaphone so the original is not very good quality, so we are somewhat limited by the quality of the originals but if you have listened to Srila Prabhupada’s Krsna Book dictation tapes before you will find a huge improvement in these new MP3 files, the new ones are much easier to listen to. And if you have not yet listened to them please make the time to hear them.

RE: Proposed Bangalore Compromise

Bangalore Case: Hearing of the Main SLP

BY: DAYARAM DASA

November 30, 2013

Dear Maharajas and Prabhus
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Yesterday (29 Nov. 2013) the main SLP came up for hearing. The Bangalore Society (MPD) had filed an application praying that matter be posted after completion of the service to the other respondents. There are 11 Respondents and some of them were not served. The Bench of the Supreme Court has posted the matter for final disposal in the last week of February 2014.

Hare Krsna.
Your servant,
Dayaram dasa

[PADA: Yes, this is rather amazing, the GBC has spent allegedly $20 million dollars over there in the Delhi court to prove that Ravindra Swarupa das is the sum total of the demigods, Krishna's successor acharya, and a resident of Krishna loka. What amazes us really is that the courts over there are actually seeming to agree that people like Ravindra Swarupa das are actually bona fide acharyas? Amazing!

Meanwhile, there are a number of ISKCON temples that are falling apart and have no money to pay for the basic repairs and services. The only priority of the GBC is to make sure that Ravindra Swarupa das gets messiah status, no matter what the cost? In any case, the issue is still in the courts, no "agreement" has been reached, which is kind of what we thought all along.

In 1997, when all of this started, we told the IRM and Madhu Pandit etc. to use the real argument, that the GBC is promoting illicit sex with men, women and children as: God's "guru successors in the tradition of India," and as India's acharyas, parampara members, Krishna's messiahs etc. -- and use that argument in India's courts.

None of this long drawn out battle would EVER have gone on if that argument had been used from square one, because no court in India would rule in favor of people who are saying debauchees are Krishna's "living representatives / India's examples of acharyas / angels from Vaikuntha." In fact, the court would have said these people are frauds and they need to be kicked to the curb. Yep, PADA was "too heavy." ys pd]

Dear Madhu Pandit Prabhu, Chanchala Pati Prabhu, and Jai Chaitanya Prabhu,

Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

We have been informed by Bhanu Swami, Jayapataka Swami, and Dayaram Prabhu about the meeting you had with them at the Chennai ISKCON Temple on August 24, 2013. We were informed that the meeting was cordial and that both parties expressed themselves clearly on the issues that have separated us.

It was reported to us that your primary concern is to ensure that Srila Prabhupada's unique position and importance is not minimized within ISKCON now or in the future. We are in complete agreement with you about this point.

As acknowledged previously, we regret that after Srila Prabhupada's departure his status was minimized by some within our society, especially during the "zonal-acharya" period of ISKCON. Our understanding of Srila Prabhupada's unique historical and spiritual position has evolved as we more clearly comprehend the greatness of His Divine Grace's contributions to the Lord's mission.

============================================

ZONAL GURUS

[PADA: Fine except, there has been no change in the zonal guru process? Ravindra Swarupa is STILL stuck in his "zone" of Philadelphia -- as he has been all along; Jayapataka is STILL stuck in his zone of Mayapura; Prabhavishu has been in charge of his "zone" including Australia; Devamrta has his zone -- also in parts of Australia; Harivilas is STILL stuck forever in his zone of Seattle etc. etc. etc., and every year the annual GBC reports still show the "zonal geographical areas" assigned to each of its GBC gurus. They are still gurus for zonal areas -- i.e. zonal gurus. When was this dis-mantled? It was not. Rocana is in the same illusion, he says "the old zonal guru days are gone" --- no, there are still zones assigned to these gurus every year at Mayapura.

APPOINTED GURUS

In any case the "zonal guru argument" was only a small fractional part of the main complaints about the post-1977 guru system? The main complaint was and still is: There was no "guru appointment" of the original 11 "zonal acharyas" in the first place. And its a lie to say that 11 zonal acharyas were EVER appointed by Srila Prabhupada from square one. So never mind zonal gurus, the first issue that caused problems was -- there was never any "guru appointment" of "the 11 gurus." In other words, Srila Prabhupada said the GBC are zonal managers, and the deviation was -- to telescope acharya titles upon zonal managers.

The "guru reformers" in 1986 such as -- Virabahu das, Jayadvaita swami, Trivrikrama swami, Rocana das, Prithu das, Rupanuga das and others, they thought they have to "fix the 11 appointed gurus with a guru reform." Oooops, they forgot to address the main issue: that there had never been any "guru appointment" to start with? That means, they would have had to dismantle the entire bogus sand castle of appointed gurus and start fresh. These folks just do not get it, the 11 were never appointed as gurus. Of course Norman Perle analysed the appointment tape when we finally got a copy in 1984, and he said it is "consitent with tampering."

Even Tamal said in December 1980, the appointment of 11 GBC gurus is a myth, it never happened. So, you can build a huge giant false structure all day long, but if there is no foundation, whatever you build will come crashing down eventually. And as such -- "the appointment of 11 gurus" myth -- is dissolving more and more every day -- as we speak. Notice these people STILL want to shift to a sideshow of the minor league zonal issue, rather than focus on the original main root issue, that there was never any "appointment" of the original wave of 11 gurus.

Gurus do not have zones, fine, but gurus are also not appointed. And there is simply no evidence that the original 11 were ever appointed as gurus, so their entire foundation for this guru project is false. Of course now they are saying, "All along Srila Prabhupada wanted all of his disciples to be gurus," ok except that is not what has been happening. Sorry, ALL of the disciples were never made into gurus, only the 11 GBC were made into gurus -- based on their claim to have been "appointed," and then they voted in the second wave of gurus.

So their little clique is not "all of the disciples." Worse! "All of the disciples" were generally removed from ISKCON, and they were never told they were also the co-gurus along with the 11? This sounds a little like Stalin, first, he has a giant purge which jails and kills millions of people, then he says "we are all equals, everyone can be like us." OK but why did you have to get rid of so many people to make your system work?

FAULTY GURUS

Worse, this makes it look like Srila Prabhupada appointed faulty people as his acharya successors, and as such their whole guru program is an insult to the acharya. And neither has there been any instruction for the 11 to "2/3 show of hands vote in" more gurus as they are now doing. So the entire foundation for the GBC's post-1977 guru program is suspect, not just the fact that they also deviated by making zones for their gurus. And when they vote in faulty gurus, then they just say, "So what, gurus are full of defects, illusion, and mundane defects, so they will vote for faulty gurus" -- making even more insults to the post of acharya.

ILLICIT SEX GURUS

The next main complaint has been -- that the GBC's gurus are simply not fit to be gurus, whether jagat gurus, world wide gurus, zonal gurus, or any other type of gurus. They keep falling into illicit behaviors; They keep alienating their congregations (like Ravindra Swarupa is doing now); They keep mistreating people; They have a whole history of orchestrated banning, beating, molesting and assassinating of devotees; They keep many temples in ill repair, and the list of problems here is endless. In other words, there is no indication that the GBC is making "gurus" from people who are qualified for the post.

REINSTATING FAULTY / FALLEN GURUS

And worse, they keep propping up (if not reinstating) their faulty co-gurus with many problems as they did with Kirtanananda, Jayatirtha, Hansadutta, Bhagavan, Bhavananda, and more recently with Prabhavishnu, Mahanidhi etc. And they still say Ravindra Swarupa Das is a guru despite all the problems he is creating. How can we STILL say that Ravindra Swarupa Das is a diksha guru, i.e. a person who is giving pure divyam jnanam, and he can destroy sins like Jesus, when he is totally upsetting and alienating most of the Philadelphia congregation of devotees?

To say Ravindra Swarupa is still the "sum total of the demigods" an "an acharya" is simply adding more insult to the injuries of his congregation. Never mind Bangalore devotees, does the GBC itself expect any sane people on the entire planet to accept that their "acharayas" like Ravindra Swarupa das are factually the "external manifestations of the supersoul."?]

*** We were informed that in Chennai you stated that you no longer insist that Srila Prabhupada be considered the diksha guru of ISKCON devotees in the future, nor for those who took initiation after the physical departure of His Divine Grace in November 1977.

[PADA: Diksha means to give pure divyam jnanam and to absorb sins (like Jesus does), ... if Srila Prabhupada is not the source of this, who is?]

*** We are happy to note that you have evolved your views on these points. This opens the door for concrete discussions to resolve our differences, while recognizing your concern that Srila Prabhupada be the preeminent guru in the life of every ISKCON devotee.

Bhanu Swami, Jayapataka Swami, and Dayaram Prabhu informed us that you would like the GBC to establish (a) Srila Prabhupada as the Hari Nam guru, the giver of 1st initiation, for ISKCON devotees, and (b) that persons who serve as diksha gurus in ISKCON will give the 2nd initiation.

[PADA: Dayarama already wrote to tell PADA that he agrees that the bogus GBC has made homosexuals, criminals and other deviants into acharyas. Why does he or anyone else still think that this body is bona fide? And who else would?]

*** We understand that you agree that the devotees who offer 2nd initiation will be called by your group as the diksha guru. Devotees in your group will not claim Srila Prabhupada as their diksha guru and will call the giver of second initiation their diksha guru.

[PADA: OK that is what the GBC policy has said all along, homosexuals, deviants, criminals, molesters, criminals, fools, sahajiyas, and the second wave voted in by this group, and so on -- are diksha gurus who can give pure divyam jnanam and absorb sins like Jesus? This is the basic failed policy they have had all along.]

*** A select committee of GBC Executive Committee members and other senior devotees discussed your proposal on October 9, 2013 at the Juhu Temple, but we did not come to a conclusion concerning making Srila Prabhupada the main guru in 1st initiation. The committee felt that the proposal needs deeper, thoughtful consideration. The GBC will have to ensure that this proposal is in line with scriptures, the teachings of Srila Prabhupada, and would be desired by Srila Prabhupada for ISKCON.

[PADA: Hah hah, even if some of the "ritvik people" wanted to compromise, the leaders "did not come to a conclusion" because they do not even want to give even an inch. Even if we wanted to allow them some sort of concession to still be partially worshiped as spiritual emperors of the Jagat, they do not want any part of any form of compromise. They still want deviants to be worshiped as the external manifestations of God, or else they want nothing at all. Actually that is good sign, it means they just have to be exposed more and more since they do not even want any sort of remedy, that means we were right all along to expose them.

Then again, even if we and PADA started to say, ok the GBC is correct, Rvaindra swarupa is the current external representative of God / messiah of Philadelphia, no one would accept that anyway. Even if we compromised with them and started to agree that they are the finest Jagat acharyas of the universe, its too little too late, their credibility is totally shot down the toilet already, it cannot be fixed by all the kings' horses, all the kings men, and even if we tried to help them, their gurus have lost credibility already, its basically over.]

*** In our previous letter we referenced our recent statement regarding Srila Prabhupada's position in ISKCON and his relationship with every devotee: "As the Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and the preeminent teacher and ultimate authority within our society, Srila Prabhupada has a unique relationship with every ISKCON devotee. . ."

[PADA: That is fine, but that has not been the current GBC's policy. Their policy is that we have to worship the GBC's conditioned soul gurus, or be forced out of ISKCON. That is the whole reason for the Bangalore lawsuit in the first place, the Bangalore devotees said that they do not want to worship conditioned souls and deviants as acharyas, and this has lead to a giant legal battle because the GBC does not want to change their policy of having conditioned souls being worshiped as acharyas. Until this root issue is addressed, nothing else can be fixed.]

*** "Srila Prabhupada, as the Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, is the preeminent siksa guru for all members of ISKCON. All members of ISKCON, for all generations, are encouraged to seek shelter of Srila Prabhupada. All members of ISKCON are entitled and encouraged to have a personal relationship with Srila Prabhupada through his books, teachings, service, and his ISKCON society. . ."

On this point we seem to agree.

We are also aware of the philosophical point, as explained by Bhanu Swami, that according to sastra, 1st initiation is generally not diksha but only a commitment to chant Hari Nam. Before Srila Prabhupada established it in our sampradaya diksha usually meant pancharatrika diksha (presently what is called 2nd initiation in ISKCON).

[PADA: OK so the people who lied that they had been appointed as gurus are able to conduct initiations? Where is this "pancharatrika guru" also mentioned by Srila Prabhupada? Satsvarupa has said that regular guru means, a conditioned sadhaka "i.e. pancharatrika guru" who performs all the practices, ok where does Srila Prabhupada say that the still conditioned sadhakas are qualified to be worshiped as parampara members and diksha gurus?]

*** But, it is also a fact that Srila Prabhupada established the system of giving 1st and 2nd initiation and that he used the term, "1st initiation." Therefore, again, before making any changes, the GBC body needs to give careful consideration. In short, we are pleased that you have moved away from the "Ritvik" ideology and we now sincerely hope to find ways to accommodate your group of devotees within the greater ISKCON.

[PADA: No, we have not moved away from the ritvik idea, we have proven that you are not even qualified to be ritviks since, no bona fide brahmanas have ever supported the worship of illicit sex with men, women and children as acharyas and messiahs, its not done by any bona fide vaishnavas ever.]

In the meantime, we are open to hearing other ideas you may have to help in clarifying Srila Prabhupada's position as both Founder-Acharya and preeminent siksha guru for all of ISKCON.

Your servants,

GBC Executive Committee
Tamohara das, Chair
Anuttama das
Praghosa das

[PADA: Right, the group that has viciously enforced the worship of illicit sex with men, women and children as messiahs think they are still calling all the shots in the world. Nope, they have no credibility and never will until they give up these deviations. It really does not matter what is done by this group, until the root issue is addressed, that illicit sex and debauchees and their cheer leaders are not spiritual masters, no other agreement will be accepted by the mass of devotees. ys pd]

News Updates From Bangalore (12/06/13) "Do not change my words"

Hare Krishna,

Akshaya Patra Mangalore operations unaffected by mid-day meal workers strike
The strike did not have any impact in schools in the jurisdiction of the Mangalore City Corporation where ISKCON’s Akshaya Patra Foundation supplies meals. The cooks and helpers were demanding a hike in their monthly salary.

Lord Srinivasa appears in Thirumazhisai-alwar’s dream
The exhausted Thirumazhisai-alwar went to bed and Lord Srinivasa, of Tirumala, appeared in his dream and asked Thirumazhisai-alwar to dig at a particular place for thirumani.

The ten false assumptions of modern day science
Modern science believes the entire universe is made of up "stuff" and nothing else. There is no consciousness, no spirit, no mind and nothing other than mechanical and chemical stuff.

“Do Not Change My Words”
Some of the reasons given to justify the modern day editing are that the new edition is closer to what Srila Prabhupada said on the original tapes. Srila Prabhupada lectured on many verses many times and never said to change them.

Jai Srila Prabhupada!

Famous Poisoning Cases In History

http://www.weather.com/health/what-really-killed-cleopatra-historys-most-famous-poisonings-20131202

[PADA: While we were discussing the poison issue with a Brijabasi (resident of Vrndavana) he said the November 1977 poison tape clearly shows that Srila Prabhupada was saying "someone is giving me poison." And he was convinced that Srila Prabhupada had been intentionally poisoned by his motivated leaders.

He also said that while its relatively unknown to us Westerners -- gurus are sometimes poisoned, fed broken glass, and killed in other covert ways to "take over" their mission, and this happens more than we would suspect in India.

Apparently poison has been used in all kinds of other ways in the Western history as well. Tamal Krishna was reading Machiavelli's "The Prince" and the Borgia's Papal system was famous for poisoning critics, opponents and enemies. As one devotee told us recently, its a plain miracle you (the PADA editor) are alive -- at all. ys pd]

Ravindra Swarupa's Pension Fund? (Philadelphia ISKCON)

Revolution in Philadelphia

BY: MARTIN LUTHER

The home of the American revolution is up in arms again. This time the congregation of ISKCON Philadelphia is demanding the removal of Ravindra Svarupa dasa from all administrative positions. They have tired of his lack of leadership, in which he does nothing except collect donations from the people. The congregation is scheduled to meet with Ravindra Svarupa and ISKCON Resolve next month, with ISKCON Resolve suggesting that the Philadelphia congregation be saddled with providing a pension of $1,000 to $2,000 a month for service rendered.

[PADA: The secretary of Mukunda Goswami told PADA that the "ISKCON World Review" was getting letters all through the 1980s from the rank and file devotees -- complaining about all kinds of problems: Bad actors in ISKCON's "guru" positions; Leaders who were destroying marriages; Bogus people in charge of the children; Criminal activity; Abuses of women and children, and so on. Yet Mukunda Goswami told the secretary he could not act on any of these complaints because "this is my career."

Mukunda Goswami really could not help the people making all these complaints -- because this would jeopardize his career as a GBC guru defender, apologist and henchman. And so the abuses went on and on without being checked, because these leaders have been more concerned about their careers, retirement plans and so on, than ISKCON. And Trivrikrama swami made a similar statement to one of our associates.

And now Ravindra will only leave if he gets a "$1,000 -$2,000 a month retirement package." He kicked almost everyone out of there, supported Kirtanananda and fools like Satsvarupa as gurus, ruined Gita Nagari, made these places into ghost towns, and caused all kinds of mayhem generally for thousands of people, and we have to pay him for wrecking these places?]

*** Let it be said that a representative from Resolve is known to be a close friend of Ravindra Svarupa's and he is the one pushing for the pension. Is this a joke or is this just another example of the good old boys looking out for each other?

[PADA: ISKCON resolve is another version of Mukunda Goswami, pushing Ravindra's ill deeds under the carpet and asking for huge sums of money for these leaders.]
As for the present Temple situation, the community has refused any financial support until Ravindra Svarupa has been removed, with many of the people demanding that he no longer even be on the property. ….

[PADA: Good, cut them off at the root by de-funding them. Good idea. Long overdue. And just start another temple in another building, just move on! We have done that here in the Bay Area, we have an independent Prabhupadanuga temple that is doing super good, we just rented our own place and started fresh. That can be done anywhere else!]

*** Now with the [temple's] coffers empty, will Ravindra Svarupa use his own money to pay the bills? Make no mistake, he has hundreds of thousands of dollars put away. Or will he run up the line of credit against the temple property? My feeling is he will do the latter, putting the next administration in a dire situation of debt. He will of course say it was not his fault, as nothing that as happened in Philadelphia in the last 30 years has ever been his fault.

The question is, how long will the GBC stand by while a Temple community falls apart due to the ego of one person? When will they step in, removing the impediment to the advancement of the entire congregation, who is one of their own? This community needs help. How many times does ISKCON Resolve need to be called before they see a pattern? …. It is time for them to step in and help a community of sincere devotees, putting aside their usual one-side approach of protecting their own. Please come to the aid of the Philadelphia community. It is up to you.
[PADA: Our experience is that they will let the ISKCON property be destroyed to save their good ol boys program. Cut your losses, rent your own building and start fresh. ys pd]

Bogus Ram Lila Movie Causing Stir In INDIA

Rupanuga Prabhu on Book Changes

Taking Credit Where Credit’s Due

By Rupanuga das, ACBSP

The revised and enlarged edition of the Bhagavad-gita As It Is, as published by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT) 1983, disregards the academic community’s protocols or standards governing the revised editions of the books. According to the guidelines now widely accepted and practiced by publishers and academicians, the names of editors and co-authors of such newly revised editions are to be included along with dates. This distinguishes such a 2nd edition from a publication which is only a second printing of an author’s original first edition.

A controversy was created because Srila Prabhupada, the author, was not present to consult with or personally authorize a re-edit of the book, which was first published as an unabridged, “complete edition” in 1972 by the Macmillan Company. From 1972 until 1977, the year Srila Prabhupada passed away, the book had been constantly studied by his disciples, widely distributed to the public and often favorably reviewed. During this time there were no proposals from anyone, nor an explicit authorization from Srila Prabhupada to revise the book then or in the future.

The editors of the 1983, 2nd edition, attempt to circumvent their lack of direct or explicit authorization from Srila Prabhupada by assuming and asserting that his authorization was implicit in his verbal and written approval of Jayadvaita Brahmachari’s editorial work — although during Srila Prabhupada’s time there was no expectation that Jayadvaita or anyone else would be extensively re-editing the Bhagavad-gita As It Is in the future. Srila Prabhupada had noted only a few, easily rectified changes to be made in the book.

Had a proposal been made to him in 1977 (the sixth year of its publication) for an extensive revision, it wouldn’t be very hard to imagine the strength of his refusal. There would be nothing equivocal about it, especially in the light of his remarks during his now famous “rascal editor” discussion recorded June 22, 1977 in Vrindavan, just five months before his disappearance.

In fact, it was Srila Prabhupada himself who created an issue about changes then being made to his books without his permission and the possibility of it happening in the future. He wanted his disciples to resolve the issue during his presence. There was no controversy, or two sides to the issue; it was a major problem to be solved and a future disaster to be avoided. Actually, since 1975 Srila Prabhupada had been giving periodical hints, guidelines and instructions along these lines to his BBT Trustee and production manager in Los Angeles and the artists as well. Unfortunately, such information was not carefully compiled, passed on or seriously implemented after Srila Prabhupada’s disappearance.

Without such important guidelines in place, editors and trustees have gradually filled the gap with policies and standards which have become controversial, especially regarding the editing of books and paintings published during Srila Prabhupada’s lifetime. (See The Change Disease and Windows to the Spiritual Sky).

Since an extensive revision of the Bhagavad-gita As It Is was actually published in 1983, there has been and will continue to be a disagreement about it amongst Srila Prabhupada’s followers and admirers. But what is to be avoided, and what Srila Prabhupada wanted to avoid, is controversy about his books amongst the general public, especially the scholars, educators, librarians, et. al. Opinions from intelligent people regarding his books were important to Srila Prabhupada and should not be minimized as only the complicated prejudices and speculations of so-called “non-devotees”. With this in mind, the ongoing controversy may be examined here a bit more from the viewpoint of academia, at the same time keeping out in front the main objective of propagating, perpetuating and protecting Srila Prabhupada’s teachings.

According to the current Chicago Manual of Style, if 20% of a first edition has been revised, it becomes a second edition — not just a second printing — requiring the date and names of the editors. Additionally, to quote from the Modern Language Association’s Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing: “The publisher when planning a new edition of the work, may obtain revisions from a third party expert if the author refuses to make them or disagrees about their necessity… the contract… should provide that the original author and the revising author be given separate credits.” Of course the BBT editors assert that they were not new authors of the book, but merely bringing it closer to the original author’s words as referenced in available fragmental recordings or transcripts. The predominating difference is, obviously, that Srila Prabhupada was not present to consult with or agree or disagree. Nevertheless, whatever lends more weight to a closure or sealing of the book from further editing is in order. Following the prevailing academic protocols in the next printing would set a precedent signaling more finality than the present practice of editorial anonymity.

As is the cases of the Bible and Koran, over time sectarian scriptures are extensively revised. In the case of the Bhagavad-gita, there are already dozens of them in different languages, all edited according to various authors’ and editors’ preferences and personal philosophies of life. Unlike the Bible and Koran, the Bhagavad-gita truly presented as it is by Srila Prabhupada is universal, which makes it even more subject to spectacular speculations. Interestingly, although the Bible has gone through many variations, or versions, the King James version is the most widely accepted as authoritative.

Similarly, it is imperative that the Bhagavad-gita As It Is remains center stage as the most complete, definitive version. In this connection, it would be naive to assume that in one or two hundred years BBT editors could not fall prey to the change disease, perhaps in response to social or cultural demands. Therefore, a permanent sealing or closing of further editing of the Bhagavad-gita As It Is must be attempted, even though the extensive revision of that book is already a strong precedent. Besides, it won’t be long according to present copyright law, about forty-five years, when the Bhagavad-gita As It Is will be in the “public domain”. By that time it must be considered to be the most authoritative, above all other renditions. Ultimately, the Bhagavad-gita As It Is is designed and destined to be the most universally accepted scripture in the world. Translated from the English, it was printed in numerous languages during Srila Prabhupada’s time. The English edition remains the most important because English is fast becoming the equivalent of the world’s second language. In any country, especially amongst the more educated, people are fluent in English.

Initially, the BBT’s 1983 edition included the phrase “revised and enlarged” in place of “complete edition” originally found beneath the title on the face page of the first or 1972 edition. Also the “Note On the 2nd Edition” was previously included in the revised edition, wherein the editors took credit for their work and explained their qualifications and purposes in rendering the revision, although they remained anonymous. But the editing continues, and the above items were edited out in later printings. The later printings also omitted Professor Dimock’s Forward, although the same literary reviews as well as Srila Prabhupada’s 1971 signature at the end of his Preface are carried over from the original 1972 edition to subsequent 1983 versions. Almost all of the illustrations from that 1st edition have been gradually eliminated or replaced and there are many changes and additions to the original text throughout the book. In other words, there is no doubt the 2nd edition meets the academic criteria for being genuinely designated as a new edition.

A reader of that revised edition might notice that there is no endorsement or acknowledgement by the original author, which is often found in such a scholarly publication. But such a reader would have no way of learning that the author, Srila Prabhupada, had passed away in 1977, since there is no such indication in a section “about the author”, or other biographical information. The original first edition reviews from “some of the world’s leading scholars” are reprinted in the second edition, explaining the special significance of the book and the outstanding qualifications of the author, as if he were still present and endorsing the revised edition.

Be that as it may, Srila Prabhupada’s present pristine reputation as authoritative author must be preserved. As he cautioned in Vrindavan on July 17, 1977, four months before his disappearance: “And people are recognizing that I am great. Don’t make me small.” Now, with Srila Prabhupada-vani in the shape of the Bhagavad-gita As It Is, we are blessed with the most definitive single volume of essential spiritual knowledge published in the West since the invention of the printing press. And Srila Prabhupada has proven to be the greatest world-wide exponent of Krsna consciousness. Actually, Srila Prabhupada is already famous all over the universe, as documented by the visitation of Lord Brahma and Narada Muni, both of whom came to attend evening aratis when Radha-Londonisvara were installed in 1969. This has been confirmed by Sriman Padmalocana das, who was instructed by His Divine Grace to make two small vyasasanas for the altar in anticipation of their continuing visits. It remains the task of his followers to assure His Divine Grace’s spotless fame spreads here on Earth.

The Bhaktivedanta Book Trust is named after Srila Prabhupada because it is responsible to present his unalloyed teachings to the world. As the BBT continues to claim not only to be the bona fide publishers of Srila Prabhupada’s books but of books by other genuine Vaisnava authors as well, they will come under closer scrutiny from professionals and general readers alike. So the standards set by the publishing and academic communities should be taken seriously and followed, because Srila Prabhupada was always concerned that his books be respected in learned circles as up to standard.

Considering the current editors’ obvious confidence and conviction in their ongoing work, their somewhat mysterious policy of anonymity appears unnecessary, even contradictory. Yet, by following the standard etiquette or protocols widely in practice as mentioned hereinbefore, any apparent mystery is solved. Such an endorsement would be similar to acknowledgements found in the previous publications listed below:

1. Mukunda-Mala-Stotra, subtitled The Prayers of King Kulasekhara, published by the BBT in 1992, 157 pages, under Srila Prabhupada’s name “And His Disciples”.

2. Narada-Bhakti-Sutra, subtitled The Secrets of Transcendental Love, published by the BBT in 1991 and 1997, 213 pages, 10,000 copies. Authored by His Divine Grace “And His Disciples”.

3. The last Cantos, 10th, 11th and 12th, of the BBT’s Srimad Bhagavatam, authored “by disciples of” His Divine Grace. The names of the editors are listed following the face page.

4. The Bhagavad-gita As It Is, the Macmillan Company abridged edition of 1968, with Preface by Rayarama Brahmacary (Raymond Marais), designated as the editor.

The last example was personally approved by Srila Prabhupada. So the precedent is there for Srila Prabhupada’s disciples to acknowledge when their input is integrated into his books, sometimes as editors, sometimes as authors, but always as assistants or subordinates. Because no disciple, no matter how advanced, can be a hidden co-author with Srila Prabhupada. Such equality is not possible.

Presently the Movement continues to be chronicled by a number of parties, especially as more and more information becomes available on the Internet. According to Statcounter.com, a large web traffic analysis company, there are over two and a half billion Internet users worldwide, 70% of whom use the Net everyday, representing a 566% increase from 2000 to 2013. So far, as an author, Srila Prabhupada has personally escaped serious criticism and his reputation remains intact. However, every precaution can be followed to maintain the continuous good reputation of Srila Prabhupada-vani, especially his books. We look forward to the day when Srila Prabhupada will be so famous that people will clamour for his books. No doubt the BBT should have that expectation, as it’s influence and recognition increases as a respected publishing house. Reputation is important. The reputation of the Macmillan Company, both in the US and England and its endorsement of Srila Prabhupada’s Bhagavad-gita As It Is was a major selling point, especially for the BBT Library Party and the college preaching programs.

So it is imperative that any dispute over the authenticity of books published by the BBT or its licensee, Krsna Books, Inc. (KBI), not be in public doubt. One certain way to help the reputation of the BBT as an authentic publishing house, as well as quell some devotee criticism, would be to comply with protocols recognized by the academic community, such as those outlined in the Modern Language Association (MLA) Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing and the Chicago Manual of Style. In this connection, we are again reminded how Srila Prabhupada was always concerned about how his books were to be viewed by the scholarly community. The protocols currently in customary practice, as mentioned herein, are not at all contrary to Srila Prabhupada’s publishing policies. This is demonstrated, for example, by his approval of Rayarama’s credentials as the bona fide editor of the abridged Bhagavad-gita As It Is. Indeed that publication, along with the Preface by Rayarama, was reprinted by the BBT in 2002. This example, as well as the others, suggests that the editors take credit for their work. There is no need to continue the anonymity.

As far as ISKCON members are concerned, the editors are confident that most of them will choose to read the revised edition. The general public deserves the same option; in other words, to be informed that the second edition is a different one from the first. The editors should also be confident that the general public will also prefer a new, revised and enlarged edition. Otherwise, does not continuedanonymity imply the editors’ lack of such confidence, leading them to appear surreptitious, like hidden co-authors? Of course, when it comes to Srila Prabhupada’s books, no one has a right to an extensive anonymous editing of a completed manuscript, anymore than Rayarama did when he extensively abridged the original manuscript for publication in 1968.

Unlike the examples herein of disciples finishing something which Srila Prabhupada had started, the 1983 Bhagavad-gita As It Is is a thorough re-editing of a book Srila Prabhupada considered completed during his lifetime. He acknowledged only some errors and no one proposed anything more. Therefore, the editors of the revised 2nd edition are obligated to take credit where credit is due.

Controversies can take on a life of their own and both the 1st and 2nd editions of the Bhagavad-gita As It Is are going on. But there is a difference. The first edition, still in print, clearly states it to be licensed by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust and “is a reproduction of the book first published by Collier Books and the Macmillan Company in 1972″. This statement meets the standard protocols. Whereas the 1983 edition is now identified merely as a current printing of a “2nd edition”, without noting it to be revised (or enlarged), yet still includes the 1972 copyright of the 1st edition. There is no mention of the editors who did the revision or that there ever was one. This is not at all standard procedure and should include the normal protocols in the next printing. Besides protocols there are copyright laws also. Compliance will avoid any potential for Srila Prabhupada as an author, or his books to be marginalized, sidelined, or mixed up with categories of mundane books of dubious value.

Afterall, the people in general are the true beneficiaries of this Movement and the preliminary benediction from Srila Prabhupada has been the Bhagavad-gita As It Is, his most widely printed, distributed, reviewed, read and quoted book. And come what may in this hell-bent world — enchanted by electronics and manipulated by corporate cyber-space cadets– fortunately, one needs only some daylight or candlelight to read Srila Prabhupada’s transcendental books!

It won’t be long before Srila Prabhupada’s Bhagavad-gita will be in the public domain. Well before that happens, we want Srila Prabhupada to be recognized as the only truly authentic authorized translator and commentator.

Hare Krsna.
