In March this year, one of the Trustees of ISKCON SCOTLAND, Kamlesh Krishna Prabhu held out a landline to our fractured community in the form of a heartwarming call for cooperation between the warring factions. It was a 90 min presentation of an action plan based on the ISKCON Management Council's review of management and devotee care at Karuna Bhavan over the two decades during which the current ISKCON SCOTLAND CEO has been the temple president. 

In the presentation Kamlesh said that the recording would be available on Zoom Cloud Recordings for public distribution. I request that all of Srila Prabhupada's spiritual family members kindly take the time to watch it.

I am making this request as someone who was an apologist for the Karuna Bhavan management for fifteen years but now, after hearing testimonies of perceived abuse and neglect, am an advocate for an urgent transition to truly transparent isthagosthi and genuine devotee care. WHY ARE WE LOSING SO MANY DEVOTEES?

Any devotee who is a little observant and has been active within ISKCON for a good number of years may have seen a certain phenomenon taking place in most communities around the world: so many people come to Krishna consciousness, they stay around for some time, but then somehow or another many of them fade away. And we may not see them any longer. Sometimes, when we re-visit a temple after fifteen or twenty years, the only personalities familiar to us are the Deities. All other faces are new.

Once when re-visiting a community after fifteen years, where I had spent a considerable amount of time in the beginning of my Krishna consciousness, I was excited to visit after such a long period, expecting to meet old friends. Anxiously awaiting the first Sunday program, I could hardly see any old and well-known faces. I thought to myself: ‘Surely, everybody will be there when our gurus and traveling preachers visit.’ But again I was disappointed. I was anxiously awaiting the Janmastami celebration, and once again I had to ask myself: ‘Where is everybody….?’

This experience disturbed my mind - I was trying to analyze what was happening. I couldn’t stop wondering what we were doing wrong - why we could not keep devotees enthusiastically and actively involved for their whole life time.
Shortly after, I joined the Devotee Care Committee of the GBC Strategic Planning Group. Interestingly, this Devotee Care Committee was initially a Preaching Committee. And within this Preaching Committee we had two moods: one was ‘let’s make new devotees - let’s reach out and bring new people to ISKCON.’ And the other was: ‘Where are all the old devotees? 

What happened to them? What is the use of making new devotees if they fade away after some time?’ Then the Preaching Committee turned into the Devotee Care Committee. This is how the whole concept of Devotee Care evolved - through the realization that we like to concentrate on making new devotees, but we make only very little effort to inspire and nourish the older ones. In a letter to His Holiness Satsvarupa Dasa Goswami on 16 June, 1972, Srila Prabhupada instructs:
“You mention you like to speak now very often, but the first business should be to preach to the devotees. It is better to maintain a devotee than to try to convince others to become devotees.”

In several letters, Srila Prabhupada expressed his concern in regards to putting too much emphasis on making more and more devotees, rather than training them thoroughly, and he gave the famous analogy of boiling the milk. In a letter to Hamsaduta on 22 June 1972, he gave the following instruction:

“Now we have got so many students and so many temples but I am fearful that if we expand too much in this way that we shall become weakened and gradually the whole thing will become lost. Just like milk. We may thin it more and more with water for cheating the customer, but in the end it will cease to be any longer milk. Better to boil the milk now very vigorously and make it thick and sweet. That is the best process. So let us concentrate on training our devotees very thoroughly in the knowledge of Krishna consciousness from our books, from tapes, by discussing always, and in so many ways instruct them in the right propositions.”

It is certainly much easier to attract new people to Krishna consciousness
and impress them, rather than inspiring and uplifting a practicing devotee. In order to give inspiration and nourishment to a senior devotee, one has to be able to come up with something deeper and of substance. We can only uplift others according to our own level, but not higher than that. 

This may be one reason why we tend to put more emphasis on attracting new people - because it is easier.

Sometimes, we can detect the following attitude within ourselves: while a person has not yet accepted Krishna consciousness we reach out and are trying to take care of them in a very personal way. And as soon as the person ‘joins’, we think: “Now he is one of our people.” And we expect and demand service from them and easily lose the mood of caring for their spiritual development. We tend to forget how much care and nourishment the bhakti-lata needs in order to continuously develop and ultimately bear the fruits of pure bhakti.

It is not enough to simply bring a person to Krishna consciousness. In Chaitanya-Charitamrita, Madhya (19.152 to 162), we find the analogy of a devotee having to become an expert gardener. We don’t simply plant the seed and every now and again throw a bucket of water on it. It requires regular and ongoing care, nourishment and cultivation. The process of devotional service is meant to bring about a deep transformation of our heart. It is a dynamic process we are meant to undergo under the guidance of senior devotees. Spiritual life is ever increasing - we never reach a point where we have learnt and realized everything. We don’t want to become stagnant, but progressively move forward to higher and higher levels of spiritual experience.

Giving and accepting shelter is the very essence of spiritual life and accompanies us throughout our entire life within Krishna consciousness: we are meant to continuously endeavor to take shelter - in the holy name, in guru, Krishna and the Vaishnavas. And we are meant to qualify ourselves more and more in order to reach out to others and give shelter. Unless we endeavor to get to deeper levels of understanding of what it means to take shelter, it easily remains external and superficial, and we take shelter in name only, as a formality.

However, deep within our hearts we maintain our independence. Furthermore, understanding the connection between the principles of giving and accepting shelter and culture serves as an eye-opener. In spiritual culture, they form the natural foundation of any meaningful relationship, whereas in materialistic culture it is unknown: nobody wants to accept shelter, and nobody wants to give shelter to others....

SRI MADHAVENDRA PURI-APPEARANCE DAY! [23rd May 2024]

Before Lord Caitanya appeared He sent His eternal associates like Sri Advaita Acarya, Sri Jagannatha Misra, Saci Mata, Madhavendra Puri, Isvari Puri to earth. Sri Madhavendra Puri took initiation from Sri Laksmipati Tirtha in the Madhvacarya sampradaya. He had many but Sri Advaita Acarya and Sri Isvara Puri were the chief disciples of Madhavendra Puri. In one way or another, all the Vaisnavas in Bengal and Ksetra mandala (Jagan­natha Puri) were connected with Sri Madhavendra Puri. After Lord Caitanya came many of his disciples joined Mahaprabhu's sankirtana movement.

"Madhavendra Puri's body was completely full of divine love; so were his followers. He displayed uncommon love of God. Seeing a dark blue rain cloud, he would fall down unconscious. Day and night he was intoxicated from drinking the ambrosia of Krishna prema." (Vrndavana Dasa Thakura)

After making an extensive pilgrimage of Bharata-bhumi (India) he passed his life in Vrndavana and Orissa. He began the restoration work of Vrndavana that Sri Rupa and Sanatana Gos-vamis continued later. Wandering from grove to grove, remembering Radha-Krishna's sweet Vrndavana pastimes, Madhavendra Puri would faint in ecstasy.

In a dream, Sri Gopala ordered Madhavendra Puri to uncover a buried Gopala Deity and install Him atop Govardhana Hill. Madhavendra Puri celebrated Gopala's installation with an annakuta (grand festival offering a mountain of foodstuffs to Krishna). This Annakuta festival, also called Govardhana Puja, is one of the most important Vaisnava festivals in Vrndavana, in India, and around the world. The original Gopala Deity, known as Sri Nathaji, is now worshiped in Nathadvara, Rajasthan.

Madhavendra Puri introduced the conception of madhurya bhava (conjugal love) in the Madhvacarya sampradaya. Mad­havendra Puri sowed the seed of prema bhakti. And Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu became the towering tree dropping honey sweet fruits of prema upon everyone. He also revealed viraha bhava, the mood of love relished in separation from God. His branch of the Madhva sect distinguished itself by this ecstatic love of God. 

It is known as the Madhva-Gaudiya sampradaya.

In Jagannatha Puri, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu showed an intense mood of viraha bhava. This increased unlimitedly when the Lord heard verses from Srimad Bhagavatam tenth canto, Krishna Karnamrta, Gita Govinda, Padyavali, and the love poems of Can-didasa and Vidyapati. Mahaprabhu's viraha begins with a single verse spoken by Madhavendra Puri, His param guru (grand preceptor):

ayi dina dayadra natha he
mathura natha kadavalokyase
hrdayam tvad aloka kataram
dayita bhramyati kim karoty aham

"0 compassionate Lord of the poor and humble! 0 Lord of Mathura! When shall I see You again? Without seeing You, My heart has become very much afflicted. Oh My beloved, I am overwhelmed. What shall I do now?" (Caitanya-caritamrta Madhya 4.197)

Sri Krishna Dasa Kaviraja says that as the diamond kaustubha jewel is the most precious amongst all rare valuable jewels, this sloka is the rasa kavya (the best verse in the entire treasury of rasa poetry). Actually, this verse was spoken by Srimati Radharani Herself. It was Radha's pathetic cry to Syamasundara, who had gone to Mathura leaving Her alone, desperate in Vrndavana. Radharani's mercy brought this same verse from the mouth of Madhavendra Puri.

Reciting even a few words of this sloka [verse] would tear open the door of Mahaprabhu's ecstatic love, making Him swoon in ecstasy falling unconscious. Feeling intense separation from Krishna, Madhavendra Puri constantly chanted this verse when departing this world.

Krishna Dasa Kaviraja says that with this verse Madhavendra Puri teaches devotees how to achieve Krishna prema by cultivating intense feelings of separation from Sri Krishna. Gaudiya Vaisnavas accept that this verse expresses the essence of the mood of separation.

The Gaudiya sampradaya teaches that worship of Radha and Krishna in separation represents the highest level of devotional service. At this stage of realization the devotee feels completely "vacant in the world in the absence of Krishna." A moment without Madhava feels like a millenium. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu always swam in the ocean of divyonmada mahabhava, the maddened ecstatic emotions shown by Sri Radha in Brahmar Gita (Srimad Bhagavatam 10.47). In this verse Madhavendra Puri discloses similar emotions. 

The Gaudiya Vaisnavas conclude that the mon­soon shower of ecstatic love exhibited by Lord Gauranga during His manifest pastimes began with Madhavendra Puri. It then came through Isvara Puri, who played the role of Lord Caitanya's spiritual master.

Madhavendra Puri's samadhi is in Remuna, Orissa just a walk down the road from the temple of Ksira-cora Gopinatha.

Prabhupāda: …boys who have played the Prahlāda-caritra, Hiraṇyakaśipu-vadha. Today is the appearance day of Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva. It is called Nṛsiṁha-caturdaśī. So I am so pleased that within such a short time these boys have nicely learned how to play, and especially I have to thank Mr. Hiraṇyakaśipu. (applause) (laughs) Mr. Hiraṇyakaśipu has played his part very nicely.

So this is very instructive struggle between the atheist and the theist. This story of Prahlāda Mahārāja is eternally true. There is always a struggle between the atheist and the theist. If a person becomes God conscious, Kṛṣṇa conscious, so he will find many enemies. Because the world is full of demons. What to speak of the devotee of Kṛṣṇa, even Kṛṣṇa, when He personally came, He had to kill so many demons. There was His maternal uncle, His mother’s brother, very keenly related. Still, he wanted to kill Kṛṣṇa. As soon as any son was born to Devakī, immediately he killed, because he did not know who will be Kṛṣṇa. The prediction was that the eighth child of his sister will kill Kaṁsa. So he began to kill all the children. At last, Kṛṣṇa came. But he could not kill Kṛṣṇa. He was killed by Kṛṣṇa.

So nobody can kill God. The demons, godless society, they simply want to kill God. But actually, God is never killed, but the demon is killed by God. That is the law of nature. This is the instruction from Prahlāda Mahārāja’s life. We can understand that as it is stated in the Bhagavad-gītā, mṛtyuḥ sarva-haraś cāham [Bg. 10.34]. In the Bhagavad-gītā it is said that “I am also death in the shape of taking away everything, whatever you possess.” We are very much proud of possessing material things, material acquisition, but when Kṛṣṇa comes… Just like Mahārāja, Prahlāda Mahārāja saw Hiraṇyakaśipu. His father also saw Nṛsiṁhadeva. This Hiraṇyakaśipu was very clever as the materialists, scientists, are very clever. Cleverly they are inventing so many things. What is the idea? The idea is “We shall live forever and enjoy sense gratification more and more.” This is called atheistic advancement of civilization. So Hiraṇyakaśipu was typical materialist. Hiraṇya means gold, and kaśipu means soft bed, cushion. So materialist persons, they are very much fond of gold and enjoying sex. That is their business. So Hiraṇyakaśipu is the typical example of this materialistic person. And Prahlāda Mahārāja, prakṛṣṭa-rūpeṇa āhlāda. Āhlāda means transcendental bliss. Ānanda-cinmaya-rasa-pratibhāvitābhiḥ [Bs. 5.37]. Living entities’ real identification is prahlāda, blissfulness. But on account of material association, we are in miserable condition of life. So… (aside:) Stop these children.

So this Hiraṇyakaśipu wanted to become immortal, and he underwent penances, severe penances, so much so, the whole universe became trembled. So that Brahmā, Lord Brahmā, had to come to pacify him, “What do you want?” So he wanted to become immortal. Lord Brahmā said that “Although I have got very long duration of life,…” The duration of life of Brahmājī is stated in the Bhagavad-gītā, sahasra-yuga-paryantam arhad yad brahmaṇo viduḥ [Bg. 8.17]. Sahasra-yuga, one group of yugas-Satya, Treta, Dvāpara, Kali—it becomes about forty-three lakhs of years. And multiply these forty-three lakhs of years by one thousand, that duration of time is Brahma’s twelve hours, one day. Sahasra-yuga-paryantam arhad yad brahmaṇo viduḥ. So that Brahmā who lives for millions of trillions of years—still, he has to die. Janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi-duḥkha-doṣānu-darśanam [Bg. 13.9]. Wherever you go within this material world, either in the Brahmaloka or in the Patala-loka, you have to die. That is the problem. Kṛṣṇa says in the Bhagavad-gītā, “Real problem is janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi, birth, death, old age and disease.” Just try to… So Hiraṇyakaśipu wanted to solve these in a materialstic way, but that is not possible. So in a negative way he wanted that “I shall not die on the (indistinct).

His eternal servant. So he remains a humble servant of Kṛṣṇa. Therefore he has no danger. Even if he has danger, he will be saved. Kṛṣṇa says in the Bhagavad-gītā, kaunteya pratijānīhi na me bhaktaḥ praṇaśyati [Bg. 9.31]. Kaunteya pratijānīhi: “Arjuna, you can declare it all over the world that anyone who has taken shelter at My lotus feet, become devotee, he will never be vanquisher.” Ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ [Bg. 18.66]. So these are the assurances. But the atheist class of men like Hiraṇyakaśipu cannot understand this. That is the defect. They challenge always God. The dissension between the father and the son was that the son was believer in God, Kṛṣṇa, and the father was not. So at the end the father saw what is God in the form of death. At that time he could not save him. So that is the difference between theist and atheist. The atheist always challenges, “Where is God? Can you show me?” Well, you will see. Not now. Just at the maturation of your all sinful activities, when death will come, you will see Him. This is going on.

So it is very instructive lesson, Prahlāda Mahārāja. Now it is getting late. Otherwise, I would have recited some of the verses recited by Śrī Prahlāda Mahārāja. Prahlāda Mahārāja is one of our gurus. There are twelve gurus, or mahājana.

svayaṁbhur nāradaḥ śaṁbhuḥ
kaumāraḥ kapilo manuḥ
prahlādo janako bhīṣmo
balir vaiyāsakhir vayam
[SB 6.3.20]

Actually, if we want to make progress in spiritual life, we have to follow the mahājanas, the great personalities. They are mentioned in the śāstras. Without father and mother, he became manifest. Therefore his name is Svayambhu. Without father and mother, he became manifest. Therefore his name is Svayambhu. Of course, his father is Nārāyaṇa, but not in the usual way. Therefore his name is Svayambhu. Nārada. Nārada Muni is also one of the mahājanas. And Śambhu, Lord Śiva. Kapila, Kapiladeva, the son of Devahūti. Svayaṁbhur nāradaḥ śaṁbhuḥ kapilo manuḥ [SB 6.3.20]. And Prahlāda Mahārāja. Prahlāda Mahārāja is our guru in the disciplic succession. So mahājano yena gataḥ sa panthāḥ [Cc. Madhya 17.186]. Dharmasya tattvaṁ nihitaṁ guhāyāṁ mahājano yena gataḥ sa panthāḥ. We cannot chalk out what is the path of religion. It is very difficult to find out because there are many different scriptures and there are many philosophers. Nāsau munir yasya mataṁ na bhinnam. Each philosopher has got different opinion. So how to get real path of religious way? That is recommended in the śāstra that mahājano yena gataḥ sa panthāḥ [Cc. Madhya 17.186]. You have to follow the footsteps of great personalities. And Prahlāda Mahārāja is one of them.

So Prahlāda Mahārāja was born in a demon’s family. His father was a demon. Prahlāda Mahārāja used to address his father as Asura-varya, “the best of the demons.” You have seen… He was patting his son, “My dear son, do like this, do like that. Tell me what you have learned the best thing.” So Prahlāda Mahārāja said, tat sādhu manye ‘sura-varya dehinām. He didn’t, never said, “My dear father.” “My dear the best of the demons.” Tat sādhu manye. “I think that is very nice.” What is that? Hitvātma-pātaṁ gṛham āndha-kupaṁ vanaṁ gato yad dharim āśrayeta [SB 7.5.5]. “That this worldly life, materialistic life, is self-killing just like a dark well. So one should give it up and go to the forest and take shelter of Kṛṣṇa. That is the best way of life.” So his father became very angry. So the atheist and the theist, they will never agree. But theist also never will submit to the atheist. This is the principle. Prahlāda Mahārāja was put into so many troubles by his father, but he never forgot chanting namo bhagavate vāsudevāya namaḥ. He never forgot.

So we should take lessons from this story that even in dangerous position, we should not be forgetful of Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa will save us. It is said in the Bhagavad-gītā,

yaṁ labdhvā cāparaṁ lābhaṁ
manyate nādhikaṁ tataḥ
yasmin sthite guruṇāpi
duḥkhena na vicālyate
[Bg. 6.20-23]

Kṛṣṇa consciousness is so nice that if one gets Kṛṣṇa consciousness, yaṁ labdhvā cāparaṁ lābhaṁ, aparaṁ lābhaṁ, any other benefit or gain is never considered. This is so nice. We are hankering after getting this, that, this, that, this, that, so many things. Dehi, dehi, dehi, dehi. But as soon as you get Kṛṣṇa consciousness, you will be satisfied. As Dhruva Mahārāja said, svāmin kṛtārtho ‘smi varaṁ na yāce [Cc. Madhya 22.42]. Just like Prahlāda Mahārāja. He was offered all benediction: “My dear Prahlāda, whatever you like, you can ask.” He never asked anything. But he was so kind. That is the example of a Vaiṣṇava son in the family. Despite so much troubles given by his father, still, he begged from Narasiṁhadeva, “My Lord, my father has committed so many offenses. Kindly give him liberation.” He did not ask anything for himself. So Narahari, Nṛsiṁhadeva, immediately said, “Why do you speak of your father? Your father’s father, his father, fourteen generations—all liberated because a son like you is in this family.” So this is the benefit. If a son becomes a pure Vaiṣṇava, devotee, he can deliver fourteen generation. That is a special prerogative because he is born in a certain family. So what we can give service to the family, nation, materially? If we become devotee, we can give best service to the nation, to the family, to the humanity. That is the philosophy.

So our Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is preaching this philosophy that “You take to Kṛṣṇa consciousness; your life will be perfect.” And the method is very simple. It can be…, there is no secrecy. Just like this evening I was talking with a boy. He has got a mantra, very secret. But we say have no secret mantra. Our mantra, Hare Kṛṣṇa, is open to everyone. Why it should be secret? If by chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra we can approach God, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, why it should remain secret? It should be distributed like anything so that everyone can go. So there is no secrecy. A secret mantra we don’t approve. It must be very open. There is no secret. The śāstra never says that mantra can be secret.

harer nāma harer nāma harer nāmaiva kevalam
kalau nāsty eva nāsty eva nāsty eva gatir anyathā
[Cc. Ādi 17.21]

In this age of Kali… Kali means the age of quarrel, age of misunderstanding, age of disagreement. So in this age it is very difficult to come to the right conclusion by philosophy and other methods. Therefore in the śāstra it has been openly declared,

harer nāma harer nāma harer nāmaiva kevalam
kalau nāsty eva nāsty eva nāsty eva gatir anyathā
[Cc. Ādi 17.21]

Three times. Three times means yajña-dāna-tapaḥ-kriyā. There are many other things: meditation, sacrifices, worship in the temple. So in this age all these things are impossible to be performed, but even a child can chant Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra. That is proved here. Whenever there is Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra, even the child can take part, old man can take part. So this is the only method for God realization. There is no expenditure, but the gain is very, very great. That was the teaching of Śrī Prahlāda Mahārāja, and we are following his footsteps. Let us stick to his principle, mahājano yena gataḥ sa panthāḥ [Cc. Madhya 17.186], and thus become more and more advanced in Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

Sorry? I needed to "cooperate" with Krishna Kant's IRM, and he wanted me to drop the molesting issue, book changes issue, poison issue, and take a vacation in the Caribbean under the direction of Jayapataka. Can't do that, sorry. Purujit wanted me to help him endorse his edited Gita. Can't do that either. Mathura Pati wants me to help him promote Saint Radhanath's cheer leaders like Bhakta das, and he is working with Purujit, who has edited the Gita. Nope. 

Point is, if I work with anyone of these folks, then all the other Prabhupada people will reject me. These folks all have separate agendas from the main idea of promoting Srila Prabhupada's important issues. They may be promoting part of what I am doing, and that is good, but they are not on board with all the issues. So if I support anyone of them, I will lose the support of most of the overall Prabhupada group. None of these people has a good track record of working cooperatively with other devotees.

OFFERING BHOGHA

There is a discussion going on about the proper method for offering bhoga and what was Srila Prabhupada's instruction about it.

Some people (for example Gaur Keshava Das) are making the claim that in a later letter Srila Prabhupada was referencing the Archana Paddhati book of the Gaudiya Math, or of one the versions from one of the Gaudiya matha branches, and that we should be following that instead of Srila Prabhupada's own instruction on how to offer bhoga. The full letter is included at the end of this comment.

We should note that "Arcana-paddhati" referred to in that letter is not referencing any written book, neither is it referring to the Gaudiya Matha's "Arcana-paddhati" book. It is a generic title of a book "to be written" (compiled) in the future, as indicated within that letter by the words "a book to be compiled by Nitai Prabhu based on Hari-bhakti-vilasa on Deity worship".

The name simply means "Method of deity worship", and is a generic title used for any book that explains the system of worship. The intention was a new book would be written based on essential instructions from Hari Bhakti Vilasa to serve as a guide book for devotees in ISKCON.

In the following two letters Srila Prabhupada makes clear about his idea for the Archana Paddhati book which was supposed to be compiled by Nitai Das:

"What are those Bengali dramas that Nitai is working on? He should work on arcana-paddhati, not divert his attention here and there. He should make Hari-bhakti-Vilasa into short cut, not more than twenty pages. He can consult Nrsimha Vallabha Goswami for help in this matter. This should be his first consideration now." - Srila Prabhupada letter to Akshayananda Maharaja (January 13, 1976)

"Now beginning from this year's Mayapur festival the devotees will begin preparing for Bhakti-sastri examination. Therefore we require a guidebook for Deity worship, arcana-paddhati, based on Hari-bhakti-Vilasa. All brahmanas will be responsible to learn this book. I would like to have the manuscript ready as soon as possible, preferably by Gaura Purnima. So please work diligently for this. Pradyumna began this, but I do not know what he has done with his work." - Srila Prabhupada letter to Nitai (January 9, 1976)

Since it is not a book that exists, there is nothing that can be quoted from this nonexistent book. It is not referring to the Gaudiya Matha's version of a guide book by the same name.

Every distinct branch of a sampradaya or even individual mathas will have their own versions of these types of books for puja, songs of vaishnava acharyas, manual for new devotees, etc.

Later in 1978 Jayatirtha Das, as one of the zonal acharyas, published a translation of the Gaudiya Matha's Archana Paddhati book in ISKCON instead of fulfilling Srila Prabhupada's request that a new book should be made by summarizing Hari Bhakti Vilasa into 20 pages.

As far as some of the people involved in this topic, Jayatirtha was later beheaded, Nitai Das rejected Srila Prabhupada and become an envious snake attacking Srila Prabhupada for decades, and Gaur Keshava Das took re-initiation in the Sri Sampradaya because he wanted something "more authentic" than Srila Prabhupada's initiation.

Dear Prabhus,

Please accept my most humble obeisances. Srila Prabhupada has requested me to write you in regard to the above examinations which he wishes to institute. Here in India many persons often criticize our sannyasis and brahmanas as being unqualified due to insufficient knowledge of the scriptures. Factually, there are numerous instances when our sannyasis and brahmanas have fallen down often due to insufficient understanding of the philosophy. 

This should not be a point of criticism nor a reason for falldown, since Srila Prabhupada has mercifully made the most essential scriptures available to us in his books. The problem is that not all the devotees are carefully studying the books, the result being a fall down or at least unsteadiness.

His Divine Grace therefore wishes to institute examinations to be given to all prospective candidates for sannyasa and brahmana initiation. In addition he wishes that all present sannyasis and brahmanas also pass the examination. 

Awarding of these titles will be based upon the following books:

Bhakti-sastri - Bhagavad-gita, Nectar of Devotion, Nectar of Instruction, Isopanisad, Easy Journey To Other Planets, and all other small paperbacks, as well as Arcana-paddhati (a book to be compiled by Nitai Prabhu based on Hari-bhakti-vilasa on Deity worship)

Bhakti-vaibhava - All of the above plus the first six cantos of Srimad-Bhagavatam
Bhaktivedanta - All of the above plus cantos 7 through 12 of Srimad-Bhagavatam
Bhakti-sarvabhauma - All the above plus the entire Caitanya-caritamrta.

Anyone wishing to be initiated as a brahmana will have to pass the Bhaktisastri exam and anyone wishing to take sannyasa will have to pass the Bhaktivaibhava examination as well. This will prevent our Society from degrading to the level of so many other institutions where, in order to maintain the Temple, they accept all third class men as brahmanas. Any sannyasis or brahmanas already initiated who fail to pass the exams will be considered low class or less qualified. Anyone wishing to be 2nd initiated will sit for examination once a year at Mayapur. Answers will be in essay form and authoritative quotations will be given a bigger score. During the exams books may not be consulted.

Srila Prabhupada wishes to begin this program at this year's Mayapur meeting. He requests that you all send your opinions and comments here immediately so that everything may be prepared in time.

It’s embarrassing to me that devotees here in Alachua are being forced to follow the “bass ackwards” instructions of Gaura Keshava instead of Srila Prabhupada’s direct, rational instructions for offering bhoga to the Deities. I will NOT follow that stupid, offensive, idiocy of a rule. 

TD: Yes, it is coming from GK. I once read his reason is, because he does not believe the guru's to be pure like Prabhupada was. Therefore, not to offer to them first because the Deity should not take from someone less the perfect. 

So instead of just offering directly to Prabhupada first since we’re in HIS temple which solves everything, GK instructs to offer in an offensive, speculative way! He needs to throw out his padukas. They obviously interfere with his intelligence. 

P Dasi: Exactly. Instead of putting Prabhupada back in the center, it's about finding some odd way of maintaining a type of pretense. You hit the nail on the head.

BB: Who is Gaura Keshava (GK) The big guy laughing at this thread. 

He’s a devotee that “specialized in Deity worship” but did not specialize in following Srila Prabhupada’s instructions for the seva of offering food to the Deities. When he added steps to ISKCON formal bhoga offerings like mula mantras on temple altars, it seemed unnecessary yet added some external pizzazz. 

Then he reversed the direct order of Srila Prabhupada’s for proper sequence of offering first to Prabhupada then Gaura Nitai then Radha Krishna etc. I have no idea how such a definite instruction from Srila Prabhupada was pushed aside and overridden by this jiva soul’s speculations. 

A Dasa: Today I spoke with Gaura Mandala Bhumi acbsp who was on the editing committee of the Archana Padhati along with Bhanu Swami and Gour Keshava. 

GMB had a big fight with GK because GK pushed like anything to have the Archana Padhati bhoga offering changed from Srila Prabhupada's guru first to his imported idea of Krishna first. When GK could not get his way he took reinitiation into the Sri Sampradaya, complaining Iskcon does not have proper Deity Worship standards. We all don't need to know any of the fancy mantras and razzmatazz that GK knows which he passionately believes makes him a Deity Worship expert and worthy of beneficial consultations. 

All we need to know is that Srila Prabhupada spelled it out very clearly in his 1968 letter that bhoga offerings are first offered to guru. That's it. End of GK's story telling. 

G Keshava Das - Gaura Mandala Bhumi Prabhu confirmed again today that he was on the GBC editing committee for editing the Arcana-paddhati. He is a very active and productive preacher in Indonesia. Why don't you call him and ask him? One of you needs a memory jolt. Speak to each other.

May 16, 2023: On this date in history 1 year ago, a reader posts a review of "Gold, Guns and God," Vol. 1:

Different individuals will draw different conclusions after examining Volume 1 of "Gold, Guns, and God" (GGG1) by Henry Doktorski. GGG1 reveals the filthy lifestyle of Kirtanananda with disturbing clarity. A key inference I drew from GGG1 is that depravity and perversion were deeply ingrained in the psyche of Kirtanananda to such an extreme degree as to make it impossible for him to suddenly renounce his twisted sexuality. In my view, the man described in GGG1 is the same man presented in Volume 2 (GGG2) and all of the remaining volumes. Deeply embedded wickedness, such as the kind chronicled in GGG1, does not suddenly vanish.

Since Bhaktipada Kirtanananda’s basic character did not improve even after meeting Srila Prabhupada, it stands to reason that Kirtanananda founded New Vrindaban with dark intentions. However, the historical evidence Doktorski uncovered is more powerful than mere a priori reasoning. Therein lies an important contribution of GGG2, specifically Doktorski’s insights into the inauspicious founding of New Vrindaban.

When I was a graduate student at The Ohio State University, I attended a class at the Columbus Temple in which Radhanath falsely told us, “New Vrindaban started out as a nice place. Then it became a different place. Now it is a nice place again.” Although Bhaktipada Kirtanananda advertised New Vrindaban as a divine sanctuary, it was a place of perversion from the start. His is not a story of a benevolent visionary who later became corrupt when he subsequently acquired power. Kirtanananda created an image of absolute dedication to Srila Prabhupada, while also deceiving and disobeying Prabhupada. Kirtanananda’s goal was to move Srila Prabhupada aside.

Udayananda / Randal G. Cieslak Assaults Krishna Devotee (VIDEO)

PADA: Wow. The defenders of the illicit sex with men, women and children messiah's club are really getting nasty -- again! This Udayananda fellow reportedly assaulted a Prabhupada devotee and tried to beat him in the head, evidently -- at least as reports indicated. There is good news and bad news. The good news is -- no one really cannot defend the GBC's homosexual and pedophile messiahs from heaven / guru lineage these days, it is really not defensible with siddhanta. 

So the followers of the regimes have to resort to banning, beating, suing and sometimes killing the people who do not bow down and worship the homosexual and pedophile guru lineage process. It means the defenders of that process are desperate. 

And after years and years of us exposing their process, they are getting very frustrated. Did I forget to mention we had to sue their guru lineage for $400,000,000 for mass child mistreatment, and they assassinated my associates and wanted to assassinate me. 

The bad news is, according to the Srimad Bhagavatam at least, anyone who assaults a Vaishnava has to enter Yamaraja's planet, and be placed onto stone rollers where they are squeezed like sugarcane, repeatedly. That is the fate of these Vaishnava assaulters. Especially, when they are assaulting people for objecting to the worship of deviants as God's messiahs and gurus.

Assaulting a person by whacking them in the head is also very dangerous, since head injuries can produce many unforseen future problems. OK this victim could have been hurt badly, paralyzed or killed even. 

But hey, the homosexual and pedophile messiah's lineage folks can be very violent, as we have seen in many examples. That is why we said -- it is -- "the enforced cult ritualistic worship of homosexual and pedophiles as messiahs club," and the enforcers can be violent as we see. And if Udayananda wants to give his side of this story, we would be glad to get it.

PADA: ISKCON is gradually turning into an India cultural hall program. Madangopal claims to be a graduate of the Mayapur GBC's school, and some of the people there were arguing with me that it is common for acharyas to fall down [into illicit sex with men, women and children] and that is part of "the tradition of India."

Yeah, it is the tradition -- of bogus Hindu God men, who are falling down left, right and center. Sorry, there are no examples of our acharyas falling down, it is not part of our tradition. Anyway, now he is an appointed as another GBC guru, and that means he is a link in their illicit sex with men, women and children messiah's club.

Westerners are not coming? No kidding, in the West we worship Jesus and not illicit sex with men, women and children as our messiahs. The India ICC bureau folks wrote to tell me -- the reason I do not endorse worshiping their "guru lineage" of -- homosexuals, pedophiles, predators, condom wearing deviants, machine gun swamis, offering LSD to the shalagram etc. is "you are a mleccha and you cannot understand Hindu culture." E) Everyone Should Accept Srila Prabhupada as Spiritual Master.

As the Vedas underscore, acaryavan puruso veda: to get a bona fide understanding of Lord and His instructions in the scriptures, spiritual seekers must follow a bona fide acarya or spiritual master. Srila Prabhupada affirms this foundational spiritual principle and casts aside the notion that material space and time can somehow prevent followers of the spiritual master from associating with him in the here and now.

"Sri Jiva Gosvami advises that one not accept a spiritual master in terms of hereditary or customary social and ecclesiastical conventions. One should simply try to find a genuinely qualified spiritual master for actual advancement in spiritual understanding." (Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, Adi-lila 1.35, Purport)

"One should take initiation from a bona fide spiritual master coming in the disciplic succession, who is authorized by his predecessor spiritual master. This is called diksa-vidhana. Lord Krishna states in Bhagavad-gita, vyapasrita: one should accept a spiritual master. By this process the entire world can be converted to Krishna consciousness." (Srimad-Bhagavatam 4.8.54, Purport)

Disciple: Is there any way for a Christian to—without the help of a spiritual master-to reach the spiritual sky through believing in the words of Jesus Christ and trying to follow his teachings? Srila Prabhupada: When you read the Bible, you follow the spiritual master. How can you say "without"? As soon as you read the Bible, that means you are following the instruction of Lord Jesus Christ—that means you are following the spiritual master. So where is the opportunity of being "without a spiritual master"? Disciple: I was referring to a living spiritual master. Srila Prabhupada: The spiritual master is not the question of ["living"]... The spiritual master is eternal—the spiritual master is eternal. So your question is "without a spiritual master." Without a spiritual master you cannot be—at any stage of your life. You may accept this spiritual master or that spiritual master. That is a different thing. But you have to accept. You say "by reading the Bible." When you read the Bible, that means you are following the spiritual master, represented by some priest or some clergyman in the line of Lord Jesus Christ. So in any case, you have to follow a spiritual master. There cannot be the question "without a spiritual master." Is that clear? (Questions and answers following a lecture, October 2, 1968, Seattle)

"The guru must be situated on the topmost platform of devotional service. There are three classes of devotees, and the guru must be accepted from the topmost class... When one has attained the topmost position of maha-bhagavata, he is to be accepted as guru and worshiped exactly like Hari, the Personality of Godhead. Only such a person is eligible to occupy the post of a guru." (Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, Madhya-lila 24.330, Purport, citing Padma Purana)

PADA: Correct RD mataji. The Jagannath Balaram fellow from Spain (above) who supported Purujit,  Makhanchor and other BLISS boys, were all telling me I am an offender for rejecting Purujit's edited Gita. And when some folks suggested Purujit is making his own Gita -- so he can become some sort of guru, they were called offenders etc.

I was told that later on Purujit was caught watching porno and that is why Jagannath Balarama asked him to leave Spain. I dunno, but we never heard from Jagannath Balarama after that.  

Now some of the BLISS folks are saying, so what if we preach that the earth is flat? It will inspire conversation! Hee hee, it will make you look like the people we do not want to advertise. But this shows how the BLISS folks and Mathura Pati have merged together, changed books and flat earth society joined together. 

Sorry, they have not cleared up any, never mind all of this, ever. One male devotee left the BLISS boys because he said Purujit was too much domineering and strident, I dunno but he seems to have a problem keeping people.

Meanwhile more than a few PADA readers told me they are never going to fund, help, support or advertise BLISS or Mathura Pati because "they are motivated for position, just like the GBC people." Yeah, and they insult the other Prabhupadanugas and go off on book changing and flat earth tangents etc.

I AM DONE WITH THE BLISS BOYS

J Dasi: So basically I see Purujit wants to be worshiped like a diska guru. I feel he is one of the most envious souls I've encountered personally. I am first of all.....i realize that statement coming from me...is ludicrous. Krsna knows I have engaged myself is some sinful activity again and again like an ignorant arse ... but I would never commit spiritual suicide and change Srila Prabhupada's books. This image of Purujit and Ramachandra besides a photo of Lord Caitanya in their Easy journey makes me so mad.

So of course when I stayed with them for a week (like an idiot) I gave some donation. because I stayed there and it is appropriate and decent to do so in my opinion. But then it's like...."Please donate to our diciples initiation" , "Please Mataji, we are low on rent can you give some laksmi?"

I find this deolorable. Considering my poor circumstance, and having children to support, which they know. I've heard Purujit das say to me, "Leave your family, they're going to die anyway, come serve us in BLISS" 

Really! Lol! I've heard Purujit say "if you can't follow the rules and regulations perfectly, don't follow them at all." Very encouraging!

I've seen they have published their own Bhagavad Gita and preach from it. They make it out to be like .... they translated their own versions of Sri Isopanosad in their homeland language and so they have found some other changes and have fixed them. Which sure is fine. I see that and understood it to be like a bliss study manual not intended for distribution and personal fame. 

And they intend to publish many of them and distribute. (I will post a picture)
They have edited Srila Prabhupadas Sri Isopanisad. I have not read it all. I'm done associating with them for good. The Sri Iso has a few pages Purujit inserted explaining the bliss agenda but no picture of himself.

They wanted to send me some Sri Isopanisad to distribute but instead sent copies of their edited version of Srila Prabhupadas Easy Journey to other Planets which I then noticed their picture is inserted into this new original version. Yes because originally when Purujit das was born -- Srila Prabhupada forgot to insert his picture next to Lord Caitanya when he first compiled the book.

So this bogus Bhagavad Gita they intend to distribute has pictures of Pururjut as well?? He will be addressed as the officiating acharya lolololololol.

Just like every other book changer usurping Srila Prabhupadas work ...his life and soul. Once this all became clear to me I ghosted them. I have not explained why I don't associate with them anymore. I let a few Prabhus know of the picture and some of this info ...and that is all I feel comfortable doing as a single lady with children to protect. Yes I want to avoid the whole public debate and all that ego stroking nonsense. ...but also say at least a few words. 

According to the officiating acharya of BLISS lololol he intends to publish a book about the Buddha based on Srila Prabhupadas letters and manuscript with Govinda dasa and have Miguel illustrate it.

So all of this makes me feel very far from Srila Prabhupada despite the fact that I learned an amazing mangala aratik ceremony from them. Tasted amazing prasadam, went on Harinam ... yeah but still, I'm now very embarrassed but...I am done with them.

There are other aspects of association that I just sort of looked beyond ...like I am perfect association lol, no. But I'd never change Srila Prabhupadas books and distribute them for recognition. Ever. Makes me so sad.

BB GOVINDA IS A FRAUD

This is an anonymous share (Part 1) Sharing again...

To whom it may concern

A few years back I was invited to attend a festival at the temple in Almaty Kazakhstan. Knowing that my friends Madhava Das and Govinda das, who is now the head of the 24 hr kirtan department in Vrindavan, would be attending, I decided to go.

One day I was invited to BB Govinda Swami's (BBGS) private home which boasts an attached sauna and Spa facility. His residence was located in a secluded area of the ISKCON farm community on the outskirts of Almaty.

While at his house, I walked in on Maharaj receiving a full body oil massage by his young Russian female secretary. At that time, she must have been in her mid-to-late twenties. During the massage session she was only wearing a choli top and lower garment loosen around her waist area.

Feeling very shocked by what I had witnessed I turned to Anirdesh Vapu (aka Bhaktividya purna swami) who happened to be there at that time. He told me that BBGS was transcendental and not affected by lust, hence there was no issue to speak of. I also asked for advice from Govinda and others. I was encouraged to leave, feeling disgusted and disappointed I flew to New Delhi. Upon reaching Vrindavan I confided in Aindra prabhuji and his assistant Gopal das.

After some time, I stopped thinking about what I had witnessed in Kazakhstan. Over the years while residing and working for my father's business partner in India, I would occasionally meet with BBG Swami. On one such occasion was in a five-star hotel in Delhi called the Oberoi (Records can be requested).

There I again witnessed BBG Swami receiving a full body oil massage in the spa Health Center by some non-devotee oriental Thai ladies.

Around this same time, a friend of mine saw BBG Swami taking his secretary out on late night dates while she was dressed up in a mini skirt. 

On another occasion during Kartik I visited Maharaj in his house and saw him entertaining Kiranas, a known pedophile in the community.

While I was at BBGS's house he received a visit by Shri Radhe devi dasi (South African) alongside her female students from the Mayapur Gurukula, at that time these girls were under the age of 15.

I personally witness Maharaj embracing each one as they lined up for a sharing of "the Love".

Many years later when the local ISKCON management at the Krishna Balaram temple had Kiranas arrested, Indradyumna Swami and BBGS paid for his bail to release him from police custody.

These are the three main incidents that I have personally witnessed.

BBGS spent $30,000 usd refurbishing his bathroom in Vrindavana, he told me that he did not like the way it looked while giving a tour to myself and my mother.
This was the money that he had collected on behalf of his yatra in Kazakhstan. Having failed to register the community correctly, the local government evicted the devotees in the community and bulldozed many of their homes.

Maharaj then use that as an excuse to fund raise for his failing project meanwhile lavishly spending money on his own personal self. Expensive reading glasses costing at least $1,000 fashion branded (now in a monkey's mouth) accessories and cologne, five star hotel resorts business class flights his own fancy private apartment properties in London, Dubai and Mayapur. His house in Vrindavana was stolen from the UK yatra in Vrindavan.

In 2018, in the UK, his servant witnessed him embracing a young 15 year old girl at her private residency, without the knowledge of her parents.

He instructed his servant not to take any photographs which made his assistant question the nature of his intention.

Due to retribution and intimidation by BB Govinda Swami many people are scared and have not come forward. He can be very aggressive. I also witnessed him making racist statements and jokes cursing out black people.

I presented this information to Prahladananda Swami of the Sannyas committee many years ago, but nothing ever came of it.

I sincerely hope that this time these matters will be properly investigated and addressed so that BBG Swami can get the help he needs!

PADA: Thanks prabhu. Agreed. Bhakti Vikas swami sort of has the look of guilt about him on the video. And yeah, he also has the look of a person who just woke up from a bad dream. He has taken on a boat load of karma, and he has told his foolish friends to also take on boat loads of karma, and it shows.

Maybe that is why he deleted the video. Anyway, his explanation screams all sorts of bad misunderstandings of religion, no question. And whereas perps and their enablers are to be forgiven, us whistleblowers never are forgiven. That is the whole problem.

“HOW COULD SATSVARUPA NOT BE AWARE OF SRILA PRABHUPADA’S POISONING? 

Upon reading the actual BTG magazine article (Vol. 13-6) which was based on this “euthanasia interview,” we found, word for word, exactly what Tamal had spoken on the tape, EXCEPT the controversial portions referring to medicine, wanting to die, and so on- GONE, OMITTED! BTG Chief Editor and interviewer Satsvarupa had cleaned-up the transcript and cut out out the “strange” parts about assisted suicide. 

Perhaps Tamal asked Satsvarupa to clean it up like that after he had second thoughts? This makes Satsvarupa a suspect as well (see Ch. 83). In 1998 Isha sent transcripts of both, contrasting the taped interview with the edited, published BTG article, to Satsvarupa, with a letter asking what Satsvarupa thought about Tamal’s unusual statements about medicine to die, and why they were omitted. 

Isha had been Satsvarupa’s assistant before. Satsvarupa wrote back saying that the interview was for a BTG article, totally ignoring the questions about Tamal’s shocking statements. Satsvarupa was not straightforward or honest when questioned, and he deliberately avoided the sensitive questions of Srila Prabhupada’s supposed assisted suicide. Why? We note that in 1977 Satsvarupa repeated Tamal’s claims about euthanasia.

Ideas that none of the new initiating gurus in 1977 were aware of Srila Prabhupada’s poisoning should be held in abeyance. Our conviction in Satsvarupa’s complicity in or knowledge of Srila Prabhupada’s poisoning comes from: 

(1) He asks Tamal to elaborate “about Prabhupada asking for something to let him disappear, that he wanted to die.” 

(2) He conducted Tamal’s interview, then deleted the parts about assisted suicide from the final BTG article for the public. Why? 

(3) He did not challenge Tamal about claims Srila Prabhupada wanted assisted suicide. 

(4) He evaded Isha’s questions as to why he cut out these parts. 

(5) Despite knowing about Tamal’s claims of euthanasia, Satsvarupa eagerly became an initiating guru after Srila Prabhupada had been euthanized. How sleazy to know about and then benefit from the euthanasia, without asking questions. 

This is like quietly accepting a share of stolen merchandise when you know the previous owner was killed. And this is why euthanasia laws have strict provisions to prevent exploitation for personal profit.” (Srila Prabhupada’s Hidden Glories 1.303)
