Mayapur Board / AI on Madhvacarya / Deity Offerings Etc. 04 02 24

MAYAPUR EXECUTIVE BOARD

Though the Mayapur Executive Board (MEB) issued restrictions on Madhava Gauranga and Sri Radhe's movements around the Mayapur campus, unsurprisingly they are appealing. And the MEB is due to hear their appeal imminently.

The MEB may not be aware of the extent of their crimes and the numbers of victims traumatised by them as they continue to frequent the Mayapur campus. This is a call for others to write to the MEB to voice their concerns.

Though CPO have investigations underway, it should be noted that Sri Radhe managed to sidestep previous CPO restrictions. They are also attempting to both delay the International CPO from completing their investigations and also trying to have the case diverted to the Indian CPO - which is known for going softer on perpetrators.

Anirdesya Vapu's decades of abuse against children did not happen in a vacuum. Others knew, others assisted, others intimidated witnesses/victims and suppressed reporting. Whilst Sri Radhe and Madhava Gauranga can claim victimhood in their own rights, this should not serve as an amnesty against their facing restrictions for their own crimes against children.

The MEB need to provide a safe environment for victims of abuse many of whom are resident there. Seeing perpetrators freely moving around the campus with impunity undermines the sanctity of Lord Caitanya's dhama.

As it is, perpetrators of crimes against children largely evade significant consequences - such as they might receive via law enforcement involvement. At most they receive a few restrictions to privileges at ISKCON properties.

It's vital that more and more victims come forward - writing to the MEB so that they MEB is aware of the extent of the abuse suffered by many at the hands of Madhava Gauranga and Sri Radhe. The restrictions should remain in place pending the outcomes of the CPO investigations - in the interests of putting victims' needs above those of perpetrators, keeping them safe, etc. It is traumatising for victims to see perpetrators roaming around free from any consequences.

AI QUESTIONED ABOUT MADHVA ACHARYA

This is the answer a devotee got from asking AI:

I personally believe you can get a ritvik diksa initiation to Madhava Acharya.

Madhava Acharya was a prominent Indian philosopher, theologian, and teacher. He was a prominent figure in the Gaudiya Vaishnavism tradition of Hinduism, which is a tradition that emphasizes the devotional worship of Lord Krishna.

Madhava Acharya was born in the village of Khanda, which is located in the present-day state of Odisha, India. He was a student of the famous philosopher and theologian, Sri Vallabha, who was the founder of the Vallabha Sampradaya, a tradition within Gaudiya Vaishnavism. Madhava Acharya went on to become a renowned teacher and philosopher in his own right, and he made significant contributions to the development of Gaudiya Vaishnavism.

One of Madhava Acharya's most important contributions was his development of the concept of "Ritvik" initiation, which is a form of spiritual initiation that is still practiced today within the Gaudiya Vaishnavism tradition. In this tradition, a spiritual master (guru) initiates a disciple through a ritual called "diksha," which involves the guru bestowing a sacred mantra upon the disciple.

Madhava Acharya's innovation was to introduce the idea that the guru could initiate the disciple through a ritvik, or a representative of the guru, rather than through the guru himself. This allowed for the tradition to continue and expand even after the guru's passing.

Madhava Acharya also wrote several important texts on Gaudiya Vaishnavism, including commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita and the Brahma-samhita. His teachings emphasized the importance of devotion to Lord Krishna and the importance of following the principles of bhakti yoga, or the yoga of devotion.
Overall, Madhava Acharya was a significant figure in the development of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, and his teachings continue to be studied and followed by devotees of Lord Krishna around the world today.

BND: To all, I believe that there are branches of Madhava Acharya do give ritvik initiation straight to Madhava. They had a website and Temple worshipping a huge deity of Nsringha dev. One could state they are apa sampradaya by holding that after Madhava there are no more diksa gurus, but they have also avoided making false acharyas by making representatives who can fall and be fallible.

DEITY OFFERINGS IN ISKCON - TO GURU OR KRISHNA FIRST?

Govinda Dasi asbsp quoted a letter, see below, wherein Srila Prabhupada specifically instructed in 1968 that Deity food offerings are first offered to GURU.
Gour Keshava Prabhu argues against this, and he might have a point, that Srila Prabhupada later overrode that instruction in 1977, stating that the Gaudiya Matha's ARCANA DIPIKA - with the opposite order of worship - should be instituted in ISKCON.

My question to Gour Keshava Prabhu:
Please show the exact reference/s wherein Srila Prabhupada specifically instructs that the Gaudiya Matha's ARCANA DIPIKA should be instituted in ISKCON. If you prove that point, then you have a credible case.

For example, Ekadasis and Madhava tithi calculations were based upon Mayapur in the early days. But later that changed to LOCAL SUNRISE calculations as given in the Nabadvipa Panjika created by SBST and explained in detail in HBV by Srila Sanatana Goswami.

Please answer the above question in this thread and don't switch and create your own thread so you can delete when you can't answer. thanks ji

Srila Prabhupada regarding offering food:

Feb 15 1968 letter to Jadurani

Regarding offering food: The custom is to offer the foodstuff first to the Spiritual Master; we cannot do anything directly. The Spiritual Master accepts the offering on behalf of his disciple, and offers the same to Krishna. After Krishna's eating, the Spiritual Master eats it, and then the devotees take it as Mahaprasada. This is the system. Everything is offered to the Spiritual Master first, with the prayer "Nama Om Visnupadaya . . .''

If, in the cooking process, food falls on the floor, if it is raw and can be washed nicely, then it can be offered. But if it is prepared and cannot be washed, then it is not to be offered, but can be eaten rather than be wasted.

Brijbasi Co. are not ordinary businessmen, they are devotees. So their pictures aren't poisonous. Even it is poison, because we are paying for their goods, therefore if poison is there, it becomes ineffective. Just like we are buying so many things at the market which are not fit for offering to Krishna, but because we are purchasing them, we can offer.

6 October, 1968

My Dear Brahmananda,

Please accept my blessings. I am in due receipt of your letter dated Oct. 1, 1968, and some of the important points that you have tried to discuss, I am replying as follows: The first thing is that in the meeting of Dr. Spock, you should eat there. But you simply eat vegetarian dishes, like fruits, nuts, boiled potato, biscuit, milk, etc., and remembering Krishna.

As you will pay for the dinner, for the fooding, you can offer them to Krishna within your mind, then eat them as Krishna Prasadam. Any foodstuff when it is paid for, it becomes purified. There is a verse in Vedic literature, Drabyamulyena Suddhati. The source of receipt of the thing, may be not very good, but if one pays for it, it becomes purified.

So, vegetable diet when it is paid for, you can offer it in your mind to Krishna and take it. But this Drabya means eatables, and eatables meaning vegetables, grains, milk, flowers, fruits; meat is not considered an eatable -- it is considered untouchable. Just like if somebody purchases some stool, that does not mean it is now purified. So meat is like that. This Drabya means vegetables, etc. And this Drabyamulyena Suddhati is only in special cases like this. It is not to done ordinarily, or unless in special circumstance. We should prepare our own foodstuff and offer as much as possible, of course. ...

Some devotees today think because some cows milk is filtered thru cow bones or has added ingredients then it is not offerable to Krsna. SP says different and above, shows us why. To reject milk as a foodstuff is not very smart and those who do so are only making themselves "less smart".....

Prabhupāda: Huh? Yes. Machine was not made for chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, but we are utilizing it so that the machine-maker may be benefited. Because we employ everyone's energy to Kṛṣṇa. So by his energy he has manufactured this machine, so we are employing in Kṛṣṇa's service so that he may be benefited, purified. We are showing him the mercy. JUST LIKE ONE FLOWER PICKED UP FROM A PLANT OFFERED TO KRSNA IS OFFERING BENEFIT TO THAT PLANT.

(PLEASE NOTE, THAT A PLANTS FLOWER IS BENEFITTED- BUT A COW OR ITS MILK IS NOT???)

Because his energy is in the service of Kṛṣṇa. Similarly, the person who has manufactured this machine, when it is employed in Kṛṣṇa consciousness business, he's benefited. Indirectly, we are giving him opportunity, although he does not know it. But his energy is being utilized for Kṛṣṇa. We offer prasādam, the same principle. A man does not know about Kṛṣṇa. But he wants to eat. By eating, he'll be gradually Kṛṣṇa conscious. So you have... Our business is to give opportunity to all forgotten souls to be engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, today or tomorrow. The boys and girls who have come to this society, they have accumulated in that way, knowingly or unknowingly, some Kṛṣṇa conscious qualification, and therefore they have taken this opportunity. (Pause) We have no dog friend. (Laughs)

Lectures : General Lectures : Lecture -- Los Angeles, December 4, 1968 : 681204LE.LA :

You cannot reject milk from the human society. As soon as there is a child born, milk immediately required. Old man, milk is life. Diseased person, milk is life. Invalid, milk is life. So therefore Kṛṣṇa is teaching by His practical demonstration how He loves this innocent animal, cow. So human society should develop brahminical culture on the basis of protecting cows. The brāhmaṇa cannot take any other food except it is made of milk preparation.

That develops the finer tissues of the brain. You can understand in subtle matters, in philosophy, in spiritual science. Just like in a scientific college, not ordinary man can understand the scientific intricacies. They require some preliminary qualification to enter into the scientific college. They require some preliminary qualification to enter into the law college, in the postgraduate classes. Similarly, to understand the subtle or finer implications of spiritual science, one has to become brāhmaṇa. Without becoming brāhmaṇa it is not possible.

Prabhupāda:
patraṁ puṣpaṁ phalaṁ toyaṁ
yo me bhaktyā prayacchati
tad ahaṁ bhakty-upahṛtam
aśnāmi prayatātmanaḥ
[Bg. 9.26]

Kṛṣṇa said that "If somebody offers Me some foodstuff prepared from vegetables and fruits and grains"—grains are also fruits—"so with love and devotion, then I eat." Therefore we offer these things to Kṛṣṇa. Just like here, we have offered fruits. Not that because we are vegetarian, but Kṛṣṇa wants this. Just like if you invite some of your friend, you ask him, "My dear friend, what do you like to eat?" So if he says, "I like this," so you immediately supply. This is the sign of love. Similarly, because Kṛṣṇa says, "If somebody offers Me fruits, flowers, grains, milk, with devotion and love, I will eat," so we are pledged to Kṛṣṇa, I offer these things to Kṛṣṇa, and we eat.

That is our process. We have no quarrel with nonvegetarian or vegetarian. No. Because vegetable has also got life. And in the Bhagavad-gītā it is also stated that yajña-śiṣṭāśinaḥ santo mucyante sarva-kilbiṣaiḥ. You have to eat after offering sacrifice. Sacrifice means to worship the Supreme Lord. That is called sacrifice. So if anyone eats the remnants of sacrificial foodstuff, then he is freed from all kinds of sins.

January 22-23, 1976, Māyāpura

Prabhupāda: Grains, no. Grains, they are starch. According to medical science, we require four different groups: starch, carbohydrate, protein, and fat. That is full food. So you can get all these things by eating rice, dahl, mean pulses, and wheat, and.... These things contain.... Pulses and wheat contains protein. And milk also contains protein. So protein we require. Fat we get from milk. Fat is required. And vegetables, carbohydrate; and food grain, starch. So if you prepare nice foodstuff with all these ingredients, you get full..., and offer to Kṛṣṇa, then it's purified. Then you are free from all sinful activities. Otherwise, even if you kill vegetable, you are sinful because it has got life. You have no right to kill another life. But you have to live on life. This is your position. Therefore the solution is that you take prasādam. If there is sin by eating vegetable or meat it goes to the eater. We take the remnants, that's all.

We cannot avoid the grim reaper.
Yamaraja gets to decide what body we get next,
and on what planet it will be on,
unless we are pure enough to get to Krishna first.
We cannot cheat the higher court's decision.
Therefore, try to get the higher court to rule
in your favor NOW, in this life!
