As it became known to the editorial office, one of the founders of the Omsk Society for Krishna Consciousness is under investigation because of the information that has appeared about the torture of children. 

OMSKREGION decided to investigate this matter. In May this year, in Sochi, the head of the Abkhazian center of Krishnaites, Vladimir Horuzhy, was detained, who is one of the founders of the local religious organization Omsk Society for Krishna Consciousness and the Omsk regional public organization Center for Vedic Culture. According to the editorial office, a criminal case has now been initiated under Art. 117 of the Criminal Code "Torment". 

But there are also suspicions of child molestation, namely the students of the Hare Krishna family educational center "Country of the Soul", which is located in the village of Dranda, Gulrypshsky district of Abkhazia. Moreover, permission to conduct educational activities was not issued to Vladimir Khoruzhev. As Kommersant reported, the republic’s Ministry of Internal Affairs closed the center because of the information that appeared about possible sexual actions against children. 

The activities of the head of the closed institution were checked by law enforcement officers, this was reported in May by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Krasnodar Territory. During the arrest, the man resisted the police, at first he was assigned an administrative arrest for five days. 

Khoruziy denied all accusations against him. As his own source told "OMSKREGION", at the moment the suspect is in a pre-trial detention center in the city of Armavir, the investigation continues. We also found out that for many years a representative of a religious organization, a native of Irkutsk, lived in our region on the territory of the Omsk temple "Krishna Consciousness". 

Even before he organized an educational center in Abkhazia, Khoruziy held a meeting and actively encouraged parents from Omsk to send their children to a future school. 

Southern fairy tale or a punishment camp?  

One of the teachers of the Hare Krishna family educational center "Country of the Soul" Omsk Yegor (name has been changed) told OMSKREGION what was happening there. “In 2014 I went to the camp, which was organized by the“ Country of the Soul ”school. I missed my son, who at that time was studying at this so-called spiritual school. I liked everything then, and in August my wife and daughter and I left for the Gulrypsh district. They worked at the school as teachers for free, but at the same time Vanamali (the spiritual name of Khoruzhy - ed.) made us pay for the education of his son, whom he really did not receive. 

I didn't like the fact that the children were physically punished there. Children for the slightest offense were punished with push-ups and other physical exercises, deprived of sweets. Horuziy instilled in his parents the thought: “We gave birth to a child, and your mission ended there, and I’ll bring them up as needed, because you don’t know how to educate,” Yegor conveyed the words of the spiritual leader. 

Even then, he noted that Khoruzhy himself considered himself a spiritual teacher and distributed food that was not eaten after himself to everyone living there, as is customary in this spiritual tradition from officially recognized teachers. Children, according to Omsk, the teacher punished with a belt, rods, and an electric cable. 

“I was shocked when I entered Vanamali's room. He had the entire broken cable hanging on the wall. The punishments were carried out in secret. The children said that some of them had 300-350 strokes at a time. They were punished for every little thing: I didn't dress correctly, I lost my things, I didn't wash the dishes, I didn't have time to eat. 

The worst thing is that he stripped his students naked, put them on all fours and beat them in such a humiliating manner, but at the same time said: "If you endure 108 blows, then I will write off all your punishments, but you must not cry." Parents also knew about physical punishment, without details, of course, "Yegor explained, adding that he quickly figured out what was happening in the Hare Krishna school, took his family and went back to Omsk. 

Later, as noted by Yegor, Horuzhy began to perform actions that could be regarded as actions of a sexual nature, which he himself admitted to in an address addressed to one of the leaders of the Society for Krishna Consciousness. We managed to communicate with another Omsk resident, Vladimir (name has been changed), who also spent some time in the camp at the school and witnessed special methods of raising children. “At the time when I was there, there were holidays, and the Khoruzhy project was simply called“ children's camp”, and at other times -“ educational project ”. 

He stated that this is a children's camp, not an educational project, and there is an agreement with the parents. It seemed to me strange Vanamali's attitude to children, for example, it was already cold outside, and they lived in a military tent, which was poorly heated. Children stepped barefoot into the damp grass, and then walked all day with wet frozen feet. Among the children who permanently lived there, most of them came during the holidays, and not for the first time. 

They got bored of almost all games and lost interest in them. They were simply forcibly sent there by their parents. I had questions to Vanamali as an organizer, everyday life, but he did not want to listen to them. In my opinion, he did not feel paternal love and care for the children, he was only interested in money, - Vladimir shared. And what was the attitude of the parents themselves, who entrusted the upbringing of their children to a stranger, how often did they test the educational methods of the “spiritual” teacher? 

When Vladimir returned to Omsk and began to tell them that strange things were happening at school, some did not believe it. There were suggestions that they simply wanted to discredit the leader of the educational project in the eyes of other members of the community, or maybe it was because of the envy and envy that arose. According to Vladimir himself, the leaders of the "Krishna Consciousness" society understood that there was no warm, homely atmosphere in the center, and therefore posted announcements that children should not be sent there. 

If someone was on friendly terms with Vanamali and nevertheless decided to do this, then there were warnings that you need to think carefully and give yourself an account. All this went on for several years.  

Omsk Society for Krishna Consciousness  This organization is rather closed, although for many Omsk residents it has become a habit to see brightly dressed, singing and dancing people on the street. Local Hare Krishnas often take to the streets of the city with religious chants and distribute sweets to passers-by. They can also be found during the International Marathon. 

Everything looks decent (a healthy lifestyle, an active social position), and philosophy itself teaches us to enjoy life and love everything around us. The temple of the local Hare Krishna community is located on 9th Severnaya Street, 39. Here, in the private sector, far from all stops, two large cottages were built. 

A religious organization was officially registered at this address in 2003, the founders include 10 people, including Vladimir Khoruzhy. In total, there are five buildings on the territory, one of which is a store of a religious organization. In the temple itself, a friendly atmosphere reigns, programs are arranged, chants are held in honor of the deities, who are called Sri Sri Radha Govinda. 

The store sells religious paraphernalia, Indian clothing and sweets. However, the checks look too unusual. As the press service of the Federal Tax Service for the Omsk Region explained to us, the check does not include the user's taxpayer identification number, the fiscal sign of the document, or other information, and there is no place where the individual entrepreneur should be indicated. 

Maybe the cash register is out of order? One can only guess. Few people pay attention to these little things, because people come there to be spiritually healed, and they have no purpose to understand such things. But in reality, they can be deceived, and children are completely defenseless in the face of the danger that some newly-minted "spiritual leaders" may pose. The editors will continue to monitor how the situation will develop around the scandal with the Krishna children's camp in Abkhazia and the criminal case of its founder.
