Amita visited Anandamaya last week at the hospital in Bristol to which he was admitted at the end of January with kidney failure, and wrote:
I spent over an hour with him and he was conscious all that time, but his voice is weak and physically he is bent forward when sitting up in bed. I fed him some Mangal arti sweets and tulsi from Vrndavan, and sprinkled some Gangajal and Vrndavan dust, and put some Tulsi neck beads on him. He is very weak and says he cannot stand up. It looked to me that he could leave his body at any time, but he could equally get stronger if a combination of his determination and Krishna's plans were in place.
It is very sobering to see anyone so depleted in ability, but having known him as a healthy and enthusiastic person is a shock. It seems he has neglected himself and is very run down. He drank some milk and I hung some garlands in his room. I read chapter 2 to him and read a letter from Srila Prabhupada emphasising the safety a devotee has even when unconscious. I was impressed he had his own room and the hospital itself was very new and clean. He could go at any time.

[PADA: Anandamaya is a personal friend of mine from the old days. His best friend, another former big book distributor from UK, ended up living here in California. And he was barely scaping along -- making a living by singing in a country western band at whiskey bars. His wife was working as a nurse aide and she said lifting 250 pounds people was breaking her back. They were really struggling hard to survive, unlike our jet-set acharyas.
If Anandamaya has a growth on the pancreas, sounds to me like it could be pancreatic cancer, which is generally not survivable. In sum it does look a lot like ISKCON is neglecting the people who built up ISKCON. Very sad. In any case, we wish him well and we hope he gets to move onto a more favorable situation to perform devotional services in the future. ys pd]

LD: Classic case. The gophers make all the tunnels, the snakes come in, eat the gophers, take over the tunnels. History won't be kind to the usurpers of ISKCON, and neither will Yamaraja.
ReplyDeleteHe was not taking care of himself. Yah no kidding. Probably! He was fried to the bone with what happened to his precious ISKCON ... and he was dying of a broken heart. Seen that in other cases too.
The gurus think this is some silly joke, but they have no idea what happens to people who exploit ... if not ruin the lives of ... nice devotees. Krishna will never forgive them. And neither will a lot of us. And neither will history ... they will go down ... on all counts.
It is heart breaking to see how badly all these seniors were neglected, and it is also heart breaking for Krishna. So better watch out ... if you try to break Krishna's heart ... you won't be in good shape for a long time to come. You'll be rejected, just like you rejected taking care of all these people. Karma will bite them in a**.
