PADA: Unfortunately and rather obviously, the India cows are maybe allowed to live, but not to live in a situation where they are getting proper care. And there are a lot of starving cows, cows not getting enough water, and injured and elderly cows in very dire conditions.
Cow protection means exactly that, they have to be cared for and protected. My co-worker was a commercial airline pilot who often flew to India, and he said, he'd much rather live as a cow in the USA, where "at least you do not suffer as much."
Even worse, a devotee told me he is putting together a web site to detail the problems that many cows suffered in the hands of ISKCON's management. Yep, India has failed at cow protection, and ISKCON devotees are not doing a lot better as a group. Of course, there are exceptions in India and among devotees where cows do get good care, and we should give them credit.
