Unemployment Problem for Millions in India

Burning Trains Reveal Wrath of Millions Without Jobs in India (yahoo.com)

PADA: Thanks for this link RJ. I think your assessment is correct. A big reason the ISKCON GBC does so well in India, Bangladesh and similar other "poor countries" is their salary payment program. They get somewhat desperate people to come to ISKCON because they need a job, and a salary.

ISKCON recently made advertising for a cook in India, and the ad said "salary given, hopefully the hired person will be a devotee." And there are many reports of people from India coming to the USA temples, and they serve the temple for some time -- until they get their green card. Then they leave the temple to find a job on the outside. In other words, it is starting to become more of a professional business arrangement and not voluntary service to Krishna. We saw that coming a long time ago.

At the same time, India is suffering from huge sectors of unemployed people and some of them were rioting (burning trains etc.) because the military career path process was cut down to a short span -- with no benefits after the term is up. In other words there are a lot of people with little to no work and they are in a dire condition.

When we were in India Srila Prabhupada said, "There are many India students graduating from accounting and business finance colleges, but in India, there is no money to count." Hee hee! In other words, there were a lot of unemployed folks even then (1970s) and it has just got worse ever since. Thus, we were supposed to start varnasrama farms and rural projects that could actually attract these unemployed people, but the GBC is just not doing it very much. ys pd
