Thanks for the question JG: I am using a app program called "Procreate." And yes I do use the Apple pencil, but when the pencil battery gets low and I'm charging it, I switch to other stylus and they work pretty good too. Yes, you could work without the Apple pencil and probably still do a pretty good job. I suggest watching videos on the app to see how it works. I am just getting started and finding new stuff out all the time. ys pd
