But in order to milk this commodity, they had to find a way to operate outside of the original BBT trust set up by Srila Prabhupada, because the profits from the trust could only legally be used for temple construction and printing.
This theft of Srila Prabhupada's intellectual property was not the first time such a thing had happened in the movement however.
Kirtanananda even started the "First United Church of Krishna—Youth Organization Underground" (check the acronym) and sent mail to Srila Prabhupada and his disciples which was printed on official stationery.
Eventually both basket cases came crawling back with their tails between their legs. However, the same thing would later take place on a much larger scale and eventually Kirtanananda would have his dreams of being worshipped as a wannabe guru fulfilled. And Srila Prabhupada's literary legacy would also be stolen and kept hostage for nearly half a century - until now.
Hare Kṛṣṇa dear devotees! We are excited to invite you to a reading of the 1962 Delhi Edition of the Srimad Bhagavatam, by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, conducted by the Hare Krishna Society.

PADA: Yep prabhu. In the years before joining the Trump administration, Tulsi Gabbard repeatedly warned that a war with Iran would be disastrous. For example, in a January 2020 interview after the U.S. strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, Gabbard said:
"Speeding towards an all-out war with Iran will make the wars that we've seen in Iraq and Afghanistan look like a picnic."

Not for Human Consumption / Horse Feed "Prasadam"
B Dasi Our experience at New Vrndavan back in the day:
My 3-year-old son S and I lived there for only 27 days. They were strange days of increasing horror. In that short time, I nearly lost him. We arrived at the farm on October 1, 1978. Fortunately we were placed in a house down the road a short way from the farm property. The other two occupants were a devotee Mother M who was a nurse, and her husband who suffered with diabetes.
S went to the day program while I was doing my service in the office trailer. We walked down the road home together each evening. October 27th was S’s 4th birthday and he didn’t look well. He was listless, and when we got home from morning temple services Mother M told me that we needed to take him to the hospital. Driving children to the hospital was one of her services, so she drove us there. S was admitted and he was put into quarantine. There we remained for two weeks. He nearly died.
The children at NV were often ill with amoebic dysentery which had been going on for a very long time. Fortunately, S did not have that ailment, he was diagnosed with severe malnutrition.
Food was scarce at NV, and most of what we were given to eat was not very good. Much of the diet was rice, but S never would eat that. I tried to get him some fresh fruit but all that I could ever get for him were a few raisins. The morning meal consisted of a gray soup called oatmeal. It looked like spent dishwater. It was tasteless with only a few grains of what could have been oats. I always wondered what it was. Needless to say, we did not return to the NV farm of horror.
In 2013 (so many years later), the gray soup mystery was solved. A devotee here at the Denver temple was at NV when we were. His service there had been in the kitchen. He told me that the “oatmeal” was made from a bag of scrap oats that were labeled by the packer, “Not for human consumption.”
Hare Kṛṣṇa!

Great story, BB! Glad you got out when you did. I also came to New Vrindaban in 1978, August, but I stayed for 16 years. The brahmacharis and I called our breakfast "oatwater." I never liked it. Consistency of mucus. And yes, during my entire life there, good food was a scarcity, even in the 1980s.
BB: I will never go there again … unless Kṛṣṇa Himself wants me to do so. In retrospect, I have several reasons to believe that NV was cursed from the beginning.

Yes, the beginning was inauspicious. As noted in "Gold, Guns and God," Vols. 1 and 2, Kirtanananda and Hayagriva wanted to start an LSD commune in direct competition with ISKCON. Only after several months without attracting many students, K & H decided to apologize to Swamiji and ask to return to ISKCON.
BN: Had the author spoken to me I could have given him more insight into Hansadutta and Mt Kailasa. I was living there at the time.
